Just wondering about this cinema smooth feature. I have yet to see a need for it but it's never available to turn on either. When can you turn it on? Do you always have the option? Because I haven't seen the cinema smooth option not grayed out as an unselectable option yet. I cannot understand why. Is it strictly and only for use during 1080/24 playback?

Yes.

I have a Samsung PN59D8000 and there is a somewhat clear horizontal line that goes from left to right of the screen on the bottom. This line is probably less than an inch above the bottom bezel and can be occasionally seen in lighter scenes and maybe during motion. I am not sure if this is normal for plasmas or for Samsung 2011 models. It looks like it could be normal, but I am not sure. Any information would be very helpful?

I hope it is normal.

Just got a pn64d8000 today, and I was wondering if it is possible to share ethernet via HDMI 1.4 cables? I'd like to avoid having to run an ethernet cable to the TV.

Are you sure the tape that was on the bezel was not stuck to the bottom of the screen too, leaving you this line? My tv had a strip about 6 inches long that I had to very carefully rub off with a super soft microfiber cloth. Just something it may be but probably not. If it does happen to be from the tape it's tough to try and remove it with care and not worry about scratching the screen. Some pretty cautious stressful minutes for me.

My Bluetooth freaked out and wouldn't pair with either the remote or the glasses. The only fix was to unplug the tv. Hope it doesn't repeat.

Unfortunately, no. The HDMI 1.4 spec does support Ethernet, but the TV does not support Ethernet over HDMI.

You could always just use the built-in WiFi to avoid running an Ethernet cable.

I cant think of one device that actually supports ethernet over hdmi anyways...

I don't think it is tape, but it looks like it is actually caused by the way the television processes video. I think that there are actually two lines, one is a solid black line that is on the very very bottom, which I think all the TVs probably have, but the other is a white/clear line very slightly above it. What is strange is that if I am watching a movie that has black bars on the bottom and top, the line will actually move and position itself above the black bar at the same approximate distance from the black bar as from the bottom bezel (probably less than inch). This is why I believe it is caused by video processing. Does anyone see this or can explain what this could be??????????????

Also, I cannot see any lines as I come closer to the TV and they can only be seen in some scenes.

I was watching the NBA on ESPN3D last night on my new PN59D8000 and noticed a lot of brightness fluctuations. It doesn't happen on any other 3D channel or 3D content I have watched (Tangled). Any one else experience this? I suspect it might be ESPN3D, but not sure if there is a setting I need to adjust.

Ah, thanks for the reply. It's too bad that companies aren't taking advantage of HDMI 1.4.
On the bright side, the TV looks amazing!

How would we confirm what firmware you're running? If you're asking if that's the latest firmware, the answer is no. The latest is 1013.

I don't think you offended anyone. I was just trying to figure out what you were asking.

Others have reported that their TVs aren't finding the new firmware either, but many are updating fine. Not sure why. Maybe Samsung is doing a staggered rollout.

The solid black line can be solved by going into the picture settings and changing from 16:9 to fit to screen ot vice-versa.

I had same effect with glasses. It was weird and it was my first 3D viewing experience though (no 3D player).

I got my new PN59D8000 last week. I spent a couple days mounting it, etc. But now I have everything working and it looks great! Part of why it took so long was because I had another set there previously. I had to take it down, run new wires over to the side armoire, rewire all the components in the armoire, install a new center speaker, reprogram all my components (and the remote), etc.

It's mounted above the fireplace, as you can see. I used an omnimount ultra low profile mount LP120F which has a .55" clearance. So my total from wall to front of the set is a mere 2". My previous set, a Pioneer 910 Elite came out from the wall a total of 8 inches (I was using omnimount U3 tilt mount).

Thanks to Cleveland Plasma for the set. Very good customer service, although I think Chris got a little annoyed with me when I couldn't justify buying the mount for him. In any case, he walked me through the purchase as well as the delivery.

Also thanks to Blue Jeans Cable who always gets me the cables I need very quickly.

Why? That sounds strange. Are you sure he was mad? From your room it appears you needed the 64".

I didn't say he got mad, I said I think he got a little annoyed with me.

He sells this one mount, it's a great mount and a really great price. But it has a clearance of 1.25". I wanted something that would get me as close to the wall as possible. So I asked him about the Omnimount. He gave me quote and unfortunately it was 35% higher and was special order (no refunds). Stupid me, I told him I could get it off Amazon and that's what I was going to do. I should have just said "no, thank you." I sent him another email asking for a quote about a recess box (again, my intention was to throw business his way if the price was in the same ballpark). He sent a reply saying not as cheap as Amazon.

So, yeah, he seemed a little annoyed...but hey, I'm a difficult customer and otherwise, the experience was awesome (got set really fast).

With the center channel speaker just below it, I could only mount it about 1/2 inch lower. I messed up when I drilled the holes. I drilled the holes too big (I was looking at the wrong page in the manual). I filled the original holes I drilled with wood hardener but didn't want to chance it so I drilled new holes 1/2" higher. I suppose I could have gotten it maybe a inch or so lower if I went with a center speaker which wasn't so tall, but then the speaker would be thicker than my TV and prevent me from centering my Xbox 360 Kinect.

My viewing distance is about 18 ft from the TV and I like to look up anyways, so no. Actually, I have a home theater room and that TV is at the "correct" viewing angle. It hurts my neck because when I lean back I have to tilt my head down.

18 feet and you went with such a small set ;-) my eyes hurt just thinking about it

That little thing is the center speaker? Dang, thought it was some sort of box you left on the mantle. You can still hear that from 18 feet away? My difficulty with my center speaker is it doesn't fit underneath the tv at all, let alone on top, so it sits off to the side standing on end, fortunately just fits underneath the set that way and I can still aim it well at the listening area. The set itelf sits on my Empire sub which is a great height for me, just wish it had the small pedestal swivel stand instead of that chrome 4 leg monstrosity, but then I don't watch the stand, either .

I was wondering if you had reclining furniture or something. I sit upright about 8 feet from mine which is at eye level, and think the 59" is a bit small (but I wasn't willing to pay a ton more for the extra 5" diagonal either). I do have my set in my bedroom elevated as I recline watching there.

Thanks was just curious...

I'm with you on that. Can't believe people enjoy looking up at a set that high up.

However, at 18' feet distance I don't think it'll be as much as issue as it would be if he was sitting closer.
