Official Samsung 2011 PNxxD8000 Thread [No Price Talk] - Page 58

Got a bit of a silly question about my new PN64D8000...

Does the TV ship with a protective film on the screen?

Had it about a week and the picture is amazing but just noticed that in the upper corner there appears to be the edge of a film on the screen. I did remove a film from around the frame but didn't see anything on the screen and have been watching it for days and doesn't look like anything is wrong image wise.

No mention of it in the manual and couldn't find anything online.

So whats the deal, is this a film I should peel off or is this suppose to be part of the screen?

Thanks

I do not believe there is any film on the screen itself that comes off just on the edges of the TV as you can see here on page 1 if the film is coming off from the screen itself I would say that is not a good sign. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1322413

I think I've seen this reported once or twice in these threads, and if I remember correctly it may be a manufacturing defect with some sets.

Is there any chance you could take a picture or two showing this?

I don't think I said that 1013 is the latest for all models. All I can tell you is that my 64D8000 has updated twice. It came with 1006, then updated to 1011 after a couple of weeks, then updated to 1013 a couple weeks later. Several people have reported getting 1013 while several others have reported not getting it. Either Samsung is staggering the rollout, or they pulled the update for some reason.

51" = 400x400
59-64" = 600x400

Thanks for the links about the film / coating issue. It is a very small peel in the upper corner. I would not have noticed it other than a finger print I noticed on the frame and went to wipe off. Luckily it is so tiny it is not in the active part of the screen at all. I'll call samsung asap and confirm what the deal is. I would be fine living with this as the picture is fantastic but don't want to get out of warranty and have the whole thing bubble on me.

If anyone has dealt with Samsung on this film issue and has insight on this please contact me.

thanks

There is no film on the Screen of the new Samsungs. just around the edge. So be careful when lifting as hand grease is terrible to get off.

We (girlfriend and I) returned our PN59D8000 to BB to get the 64". It was just delivered the other day and we noticed that there is a small gap between the screen and the bezel on the bottom about 12" from the bottom left corner. It as if that one part of the bezels bows out just slightly. It is only that part (about 3-4 inches wide or so) and is out far enough to almost stick the rear end of a pencil in (not that I would). There is already a tiny piece of styrofoam down in it which I am sure I can get out with air. Everything else seems fine. Why would the bezel come out that far from the screen in one spot?

Out of fear of it being some part of a bigger problem (perhaps applying uneven pressure on the screen) we said we wanted another one. We didn't want to pay that much for a TV (and extended warranty) only for it to develop cracks later down the road and have to get a new one since warranties don't cover cracks (they will claim you did it). We get to keep this one until the new one comes which will take about 2-3 weeks.

It may not ever develop into a problem and as of now isn't one as far as PQ goes but we justed wanted to be sure when we pay that much for something it works as long as it should.

Am I just being paranoid or do ya'll think I made the right call? There is no evidence of added pressure anywhere on the screen but what would cause the bezel to come out like that?

If it's not right, return/exchange it and don't worry about it. Gotta wonder if that took a good whack during handling...

Much better than letting a regret fester until it's too late...

I count three in that thread, and with this thread, it makes four. Any others?

Mine definitely seems flawed it but doesn't exhibit the same problem as the one in that thread. I have no signs of plastic/coating peeling etc. Mine may have happened during transportation. I am not sure though. I mean as expensive as this set is you would think they would slap a decently shaped bezel on it or make sure it is right before boxing up. If it was on display people would opt for another one for sure.

We bought both the 59" of the D8000 and the PN50C7000 before this one and neither had any problems. Both had perfect looking bezels. I wouldn't mind minor irregularities in the bezel that might be noticed only when your eye is level with it. I just don't like a noticeable space difference between the bezel and screen in only one spot.

The box itself did look like it had been through a bit so perhaps that was it.

Thanks. Yeah, I would be pretty upset with myself if it did develop into a problem later and I didn't return it when I could have.

I've slowly been driven crazy by the dynamic dimming on this set. I've turned off everything that I can access, but I can't find any option in the service menu. I've been told that only a Samsung technician can access hidden options in the service menu. Is there some way I have missed or am I SOL when it comes to this annoyance?

Which set? How does it manifest to your eye? Can't say I've noticed anything related to this with my 59Dk

51"

Connect your set to a PC, set your desktop background to white, then put a solid black image up over half the screen. When you do this the white will get much much brighter. At first I thought it was just dynamic contrast so I ignored it, but after disabling dynamic contrast, power saving, etc. this still exists.

I keep seeing messages stating that the resolution isn't supported and I have even seen it guess wrong (e.g. 720 x 240!).

I hope there is a software fix soon.

+1. PN64D8000. The very outer bit of each upper corner. If I hadn't gone looking for it I'd never have seen it. I have to get right up to the TV, look straight at the corner of the screen, and shine a flashlight at it. There's clearly something on the inside of the glass that has separated from the glass. It's outside all the pixels, so it's no big deal to me unless it spreads.

Were not crazy there are 64"8K with pealing film coming off. Got mine back on April 13th and in the top right corner film is pealing away. WTF Samsung, feeling like I bought Best Buy brand tv. Ugh.....

Yep. Mine's exactly like that on the upper right, but a have a smaller instance on the upper left corner.

Ebi64, did you sneak in my house for that photo?

That is exactly what mine looks like. It has not spread but if I push it flush it sticks for about 20 seconds and then returns.

Thinking the heat of the using the set either shrinks the glue or the film and it peels. Everything probably looked fine at the factory and then you run it for a week and up it comes. Bad batch of film or switched glues, I bet they changed things from design when they went full production and we got burned.

Not really sure what I am going to do as on a return I probably just going to get a set back that does the same thing over time and I'm sure this is too recent for Samsung to have fixed the issue at the factory. At least the one I have now is not peeling over the picture. If this was a 2 year old set I would use bit of super glue and wouldn't notice it.

Bummer on a top of the line set.
Yeah NikTurner, I borrowed a pair of boxers also.

I call Samsung to have a case logged hope all you others experiencing this will too. Tekniton repair person scheduled for Tuesday next week to come and look at it. Hope he doesn't whip out super to glue as a fix. If you can return yours for a new one do so. Too bad I was outside my 30 day period. Now I am in Samsung's hands for now. Keep you all posted.

I was so in love with my TV. There is a little love lost and it better stay put in the corner. Bad TV.....

Is the update auto? I just bought my 64D8000 last sunday and it came with 1006. It didn't ask me to update it. I tried to do the update under support->software upgrade and it tells me that no new update available. Maybe I need to wait a couple of weeks.

If you have it set to upgrade in standby, I believe it will do it automatically.

As far as I can tell from the posts here, anyone who has tried to update in the last week or so hasn't been successful. It's certainly looking like Samsung pulled the update for some reason.

This doesn't look good. Samsung is going to burn a lot of time and money on this set.

I'm really confused by your posts. What devices are giving you that message? What do you mean? I ask because I'm just loving my 4-day 59D8000.
