Mine is working fine with my 59D8000 with the component connections. I believe the res for the wii is 480, but I don't think you should have to set that anywhere. Can you tell what device is giving you the res error?

Thanks. I figure it out. I had to switch to the wii's component cable instead of the av cable. Working now.

Just checked all 4 corners of my 64D8K and no signs of peeling. Had this model for about 3 weeks. I will keep checking. Where is the power supply on these, wondering if there could be a heat issue with the screen film?
Can any owners of this tv check if it has the EPG (electronic program guide ) built in?

I'm sure it has but some spec's pages are saying it hasn't which is odd.
Performed inspection of my 64d8k and found no signs of buzzing, peeling, and no flicker issues. And have owned it over 2 months now.

Does anyone have any experience with a buzzing set which has been fixed?? Even samsung plasma's from an earlier year?? Had my 59D8000 for a couple of days and am extremely happy with PQ but it has a really loud buzz which you can hear on just about everything except maybe watching a concert or something where there is non stop loud noise.

I remember reading about people who had the tech come out and tighten some screws which were causing a vibration buzz noise, and fixed it. Others have said a new power cable fixed it. I had 2010 samsung plasma and although it had a slight hum, it was nothing like this. Thought I'd wait maybe a week and if it doesn't go away I will have to contact samsung. I just hope there is a fix (that I can do or the technician) as I really want to keep this set and don't want to have to go through an exchange.

Anyone had any experience with buzzing??

Has anyone purchased a monoprice mount for the pn64d8000 for 24" apart studs. My back up plan is the more expensive sanus vmpl3.

Thanks

I've had this set for two days now and can give my initial impressions.

Our delivery didn't go so well with Best Buy since they broke two stones on my front porch but that is another story.

1. Aesthetics: The set is beautiful. The silver bezel and one glass design works together. I also like the looks of the stand which is slightly retro.

2. Remote: The remote feels sturdy and has a keyboard on one side and a regular, lighted remote on the other side with slightly larger "main" buttons. There is a way to use the remote to operate a cursor but haven't been able to get that function to work. The juror is still out on web browsing - if I can get a pointer to work it would make surfing that much better. Overall I like the remote and feel it is way better than what you get with the new Panasonics.

3. Menus: I thought the menus were well laid out and easy to use.

4. HD PQ: I have Directv and am very picky about PQ. This plasma produces a very bright picture with excellent blacks and little noise. Colors are saturated without a cartoonish look and contrast is very good. I was nervous about buying plasma since they all looked bad in the store but in a real world situation this set produces a fantastic picture.

5. 3D: Amazing! Sharp, immersive, just excellent. The glasses are comfortable and sync easily with no flickering or cross talk that I could tell. I also didn't see any motion trails either. The best part of plasma is that there are basically unlimited viewing angles so everyone is in the sweet spot and I can also report that I didn't experience any loss between the glasses and the set. One issue is that there 3D menus are a little difficult to understand. I would have liked more of an explanation for each function.

6. Blueray: Awesome. No issues at all.

7. Heat and buzzing. I listened carefully in a quiet room but didn't hear any buzzing sounds. I did notice some heat coming off the screen which is normal for plasma.

8. Fast action: I haven't watched to many scenes with fast action but what I'v seen looks very solid.

9. PS3: Not tested yet.

10. Smart TV functions: Very cool. They load fast and work well. Most of the premium apps charge you for downloads, etc.

11. Overall I'm very happy with this set. The PQ ia amazing and the smart functions are way cool. Not much to dislike. Maybe the price.

I replaced a 58c8000 with a 59d8000. The c8000 buzzing was minimal and could only be heard in silence in 2-3 spots around the room. If anything, the d8000's buzzing is even less, but still can be heard in silence in a couple spots around the room. Those spots are various, like a specific point in the room, say 10-12 ft away when the ear is at 4.5 ft high, but not when the ear 4 ft or at 5 ft. Make sense? Total silence is needed to begin to sense the buzzing.

Bottom line? I'd guess your specific D8000 does have a problem, and is not the norm.

I have a D7000, fundamentally the same television. My first one buzzed and could be heard with the volume off from 20 feet away or more. I called Samsung and they said over the phone "that's not normal" or something to that effect. A technician came out and tested but Samsung's hurdle for "not normal" turned out to be extremely high... set volume to 20 (higher than I normally have it) and see if buzzing can be heard from 10 feet. Of course I couldn't hear it in that case.

The technician agreed that it wasn't normal but didn't meet Samsung's definition of replaceable. He did say, however, that if it's exchangeable then to definitely exchange it. So I packed it up and returned it to Best Buy who were excellent to deal with as they ordered a new one for me without question. By the way, the new one is virtually silent... completely night and day versus the first one.

Lastly, I gather from the technician that buzzing is something you can't just "fix" on a plasma. Yes, there's a thread that suggests clamping down a certain component on a Panasonic seems to work but that apparently is an exception.

These are great reasons not to buy mail order or from a place that charges a re-stocking fee. I was going to buy my set from PC Richards but they don't take returns on TV's so I went with Best Buy. I've bought from PC Richards and they are great to deal with but I wasn't sure if I wanted a plasma or not. Bottom line it's a great set.

Thanks.

You need to go into your Wii options and change the settings to accept 480P.

Could someone please post a good straight-on pic of the back of the 64". I'm trying to get a general sense of the power chord placement. From some of the pictures posted, it appears to be slightly left of center (looking at the back).

Samsung's website shows the back:

Click the zoom link under the picture. One of the images you can select is the rear of the set. The power cord isn't shown but the location is the grey rectangle just off center and about 40% up from the bottom.

Thanks. I hate to admit it, but I spent over an hour this morning looking for that. :embarrassed:

I finally figured out how to get the cursor to work. It is very clever but it is hard to control. With a firmware update maybe Samsung can add tools to control the sensitivity, etc. of the cursor. Typing in passwords, etc. is a snap with the qwetry keyboard. For now I'll keep my laptop. Perhaps I can use my blue tooth mouse with Smarthub and that would fix all the issues I have. The cursor is only an issue with browsing the Internet. For using apps or renting movies it really isn't an issue.

I forgot to mention sound. It is pretty good for such a thin set. This was a big surprise.

I ordered 64pnd8000 and am thinking of wall mounting it with a full motion arm so that i can position it in different ways. what do you guys think abt this. any wall mounts you would recommend for the size.

Also one other interesting problem , could use your advise on. We have a 2 yr old kid and I thought I would buy a low profile stand and wallmount the tv but I realized that if I do so, the kid will climb the stand and will be able to "catch" the wall mounted tv and play with it (which defeats the full motion arm). any advise you can share on where to put the av equipment?
I caught my 2 year old nephew stuffing nerf discs that you shoot into my DVD/SACD player. Those little rascals. He's only going to get bigger and more curious. If you do get the arm that moves out make sure it's built like a tank and installed into studs. You don't want the set falling on his head. In a few years you may change that opinion but for now.....

Hey donkey,

Can you give the kid up for adoption?

What's an electronic program guide? My manual comes up with nothing searching for such. Why don't you just wait until you get your set before anticipating all the problems and complaining you have so far?
There is a user manual available for download, LOPANindustries.

Check into a screen protector. I know it's a travesty to put anything in front of a screen this nice, but I lost my pn63c7K to a 2 yr olds sipee cup. I have a 64D8k with a TVArmor cover now. I feel more at ease. They are pricey but not as expensive as a new big screen plasma.

What is an EPG? Are you for real or what?? LMAO

Anyhow, how is asking if it has an EPG complaining?

And thank you LarryInRI for your mature response unlike some tools.

I've seen this complaint of a horizontal line that is viible on the top of bottom of the screen. I saw it on my set today Here is the fixL Go into the menu and select picture position and then move the screen up or down a little to get rid of this line. Not a problem once you know the fix.

In most cases it can be fixed.

All,

I've had my PN51D8000 for about a week now.
I have a few issues that I'd like to bring up to everyone to see if I can get some assistance.

1) Buzzing, I can hear the TV buzzing only when I hold my ear within a foot of the tv set with no volume.

2) Flashing black, while watching Netflix from the smarthub, or while watching youtube from the smarthub in the middle of the content the screen will flash black as if the tv set were blinking, it's very odd, and I have not experienced this from any HDMI sources, only from smarthub content.

3) stuck pixel, I bought the tv from US-Appliance, and I have 5 total stuck pixels in various parts of the screen. Any way to resolve this?

I have not seen any fluctuation in brightness, nor any screen peeling as of yet.

I did have a horizontal line across the top of the set, but using "screen fit" and moving the picture up a notch solved this.

Other than that the only other annoyance is the remote doesn't stay lit up very long, and the keyboard part doesn't light up at all.

Asking about the EPG wasn't what I was referring to but rather your posts where you've got your outlets all lined up. You couldn't find the manual online?

For people having problems with their tv's, like the flickering and the screen filter peeling, I would be blasting it all over facebook on samsungs page.

They are so big on social media so if they were getting alot of unhappy customers on there then they would be likely to act and fix the problem.

I would not waste time submitting the fault by phone because they dont reach anywhere higher than the person in customer service centre.
