They really are obvious during golf when the ball is in flight against the sky background and in the tech menu slides (not the slides that are available by the menu function). I dont even know how to access them but when the tech came out to try to fix each set he accessed them to rule out the board that has all the video connections on it.
This set (64d8000) has the least visable lines but they are still slightly there against white or very light backgrounds.
When I first started the process of having the my original tv fixed I started a thread about this and nobody seemed to see these lines, atleast there were no responses to my thread anyway. But, I know they are there on each set and once you notice them you'll see them from that point on.
1st TV pn63c8000
horizontal lines very faint
replacement panel first attempt of fix had even brighter lines
then two more attempts at fix replaced 2 boards. TV ended up having more visable lines than at first even though all original parts were put back in the set
2nd TV pn63c8000
horizontal lines worse than first original set but better than the set when it was returned since the tech said taking the first one apart so many times prolly caused it to get worse. I accepted the set and told samsung it was better than the set that was being returned but still had problems.
Tech came out with two boards for attempt at fix with no luck.
Tech came out with a panel that was worse once again.
3rd TV pn63c8000
Arrived turned it on and it was worse than any of them. Could see the lines on just about any screen background. Set was refused and sent back to samsung.
4th tv pn64d8000
Tv arrived last week and I accepted it without powering it on because the set was really cold from the dilevery (and it obviously had to be better than my old set, and I had to have 4 different glasses tickets made for the exchange as well which took over an hour and a half). New set has very faint lines in it as well. They are arranged just like the ones on the 63c models. I can only see them against almost white backgrounds as I dont know how to get into the service menu to see the other slides.
Bottom line is that I dont understand how nobody is noticing these obvious defects, whether it be someone on here or reviewers. The last time I was in a magnolia store I looked at the sets and could see the lines on each one that pictured a background that would allow me to see them. So, I cant say 100% sure that every set has this defect but can say that 9 out of 9 sets that I have viewed with a light background has them. I can say that the newer models have improved though. Its so faint that it doesnt even bother me and am now going to live with it. I will go in the magnolia store here in a week or two as I'll be going by the nearest one (175 miles away) and check out the models they have on display. I'll update my findings then. They should have atleast three sizes to view of the d8000 series.
Sorry for those who end up seeing these lines that didnt notice them before but feel like everyone should know about my findings. A white/light grey background is the easiest for me to see them.
