Now that's a good question, since not all experience it...try this thread http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1328762

I couldn't stand the LCD model due to flashlighting/clouding issues, but am absolutely sold on my PN59D8000....not a single problem with it.

PS Well, except the stand, not as good as the pedestal stand they have on some other models...

On my D7005 fBR is a 100 % non issue.

my mistake its the 51 inch model, ill check the reviews yes its a BD running on an OPPO

Does anyone know if DirecTV RVU coming/possible to this set?
Nobody on this thread is using an Anthem D2 or AVM 50 with the 8000 series. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

I returned my samsung LED for this plasma and I am happy with the decision. The banding, clouding and flashlighting was too much for me to handle with the LED. Yes, I do see some brightness flucuations on the plasma, but it isn't enough to bother me.

Just an update on mine. I had the 1 bad pixel that would flash green/white on grey, and tan colors... on blacks it wouldn't do it and white i couldn't see it.

The store i bought it from brought me another unit and swapped them out. Now i'm running the new one with no issues yet. Although this 1 i'm keeping on standard for awhile before i go to dynamic. Not sure if i believe you have to break in a plasma but giong to run standard just in case.

Also on another note while i was in the store talking to them they offer'd me to go to the VT30 for just a hair more money but i couldn't get past the detail on the samsung over the vt30, plus i think the samsung is a better looking tv style wise.

You guys that have the 64D8000 mounted on a wall, how high is the bottom of the tv from the floor? Wife is driving me crazy with this crap!

Mount it so the center of the screen is at a comfortable height for you while viewing.

I understand all of that, I have a couple LCD's mounted upstairs but this is a bigger TV and I am trying to find out what others have done. Viewing from about 10-12ft. back on a sectional.

You will have to find the optimal height for your sofa/recliner where you don´t have to bend your head upwards. Bending it down is less problematic so lower is generally safer.

Hey guys newb here,

Just bought a ps51d8000fv from Harvey Norman. Gonna run the break in slides for about 150'ish hours.

How low should i have cell light, contrast, brightness & sharpness settings?
Are there any other settings that i should be adjusting for the break in?

Thanks in advance!

Mine is about 27" off the floor. I could have gone a little higher than this, but as the other posters noted, you don't want to have to look up too much when you are relaxing on the couch. It will also depend on any furniture that you have underneath the TV too. I have a low console in front of the set which houses my center speaker and so forth so I put the set just slightly above the center speaker.

If you have a cat or dog that likes to sit in your lap, you may have some issues with it being too low as you will not be able to see the screen when they move around.

When does the fluctuation actually happen? During the middle of a scene (because that would bother me) or that split second inbetween scenes switches / camera angles switches?

I have my 59" TV on a 24" high table.
From a distance of 12', the center of the screen lines up perfectly with my eyes.

by the way, I see no point of mounting to a wall if you are going to hook up a PS3 or a blu-ray player, and a audio receiver. They still need a table/console. Might as well put the TV on top of it.

I have mine about 25" off the floor and on the wall, have a low 18" stand with a big center on top. looks great.

My receiver has no HDMI so I use the digital out from TV for antenna channels and smart hub and go direct to receiver from ps3 and FIOS box.

When using toslink I am getting DD 5.1 from the digital broadcast channels using tv's tuner,. However if I rent a movie from for example VUDO in the smart hub, looks like I am only getting stereo through the toslink, even though VUDO indicates it is sending HDX including 5.1 surround.

Is this just a limitation of the hardware? If the set can output surround sound using its tuner on the digital out why is there a restriction if the source is the internet?

Seems kind of overkill to have to spring for an HDMI capable receiver to use the features available in Smart-hub.

Not a hardware limitation, I get DD5.1 (but not DTS) from Netflix and Vudu smarthub apps on my D8000 toslink. FW version 1018.4 and above.

Thanks for feedback - I will try another movie from VUDU (or maybe HULU)?

The receiver lit up dolby pro-logic for the VUDU HDX version of "Bridesmaids" - definitively not the DTS or DD lights.

Makes me definitely appreciate the PS3 and Blockbuster Blu ray rentals much more than trying to stream from these services and can't figure out what is wrong.

I am at software version 1024 with online updating selected - and no newer software available when I just checked.

Is this the same as firmware or is there another way to check for that?

1024 is the latest for the D8000, I guess it's possible they broke DD app streaming but I think unlikely. It has worked fine on both 1018.4 and 1022.1 for me. You can test with the 2 minute previews on Vudu, try pirates of the caribbean.

Thanks - interesting test results confirm VUDU HD can be played with DD, but its a crap shoot whether it works or not. I tried the 10 minute preview of Contagion and sure enough was stereo. Then I tried a movie from ABC I had recorded on and stored on the network - so it was obvious the Smartapp/toslink would pass 5.1.

So then I searched and found the Pirates and low and behold it was 5.1
Went back to contagion and found the two-minute preview was 5.1 although the 10 minute preview still was not. Bridesmaids was stereo on the 2 minute preview, just like my experience with rental.

Bottom line try out the 2 minute preview on HULU HD before renting or buying if you are interested in getting surround sound

You haven't told us why it was replaced in the first place.

Thanks, I read and comprehend.

But a single dead pixel? I was not aware that was covered under warranty. Just would have been helpful if you had described the exact problem and how you got it resolved. I only found vague mentions of a problem pixel from you in this thread. Is that too much to ask?

I plan on mounting mine about 28" off the floor, just above console.

Haha my bad. I contacted samsung thru their site and was phoned by their local service tech. They mustve been nice because they didn't evencome out to inspect it. Instead they came with a replacement panel the first time. the old panel had a flickering green pixel in the centerish

Cnet's CES coverage mentions a fix for the pops in the 2012 Sammy plasma article

A company rep here at CES also told us that the "brightness pops," an issue we noted with some types of content when watching the 2011 models, had been addressed by a new firmware update for the 2011 PND8000 (we'll test that when we get a chance).

If I understand that correctly, it sounds like Samsung has a FW fix for the PNxxD8000 as well.
