You must really like that channel...

I've been scrolling a good deal with my CNN/ESPN issues, and I'm not convinced that scrolling helps yet.

It has a lot of good programs but it has two five minute long commercial brakes every hour so the tv gets a pause from the logo. I don`t watch this channel for hours, there are other channels I watch more. The logo of this channel is really bright and sharp... I will start and turn the contrast down when I watch it from now on. It seems to help scolling for a few hours but it won`t go completely away, so gonna try scrolling 12-14 hours and see.

I noticed this evening that I have an ever so slight corner that is starting to peel on the upper right side, about a 16th of an inch. I used a tooth pick to mat it back into place.

64D8k......Is there a reflective film that covers the screen? is that what is peeling?

thanks.

What picture mode, color temp, contrast setting, and cell light are you guys using that have so much trouble wiping IR away?

I use Movie, Warm 2, contrast 95, cell light 13 at night and 20 in the bright day. If I watch ESPN the bottom section gives definite IR which is sometimes readable, but scrolling cleans it up in a matter of minutes. I should also mention that when I know something like IR is likely to happen (ESPN), I run 16:9 with pixel shift on.

PN51D8000 here.

Movie, Varm2, cell light 18, contrast 90, always 16:9 and pixelshift on. I`m gonna start turning contrast down when watching the one channel I get IR from. I`ve been running scrolling for 12 hours now and it looks like the IR is gone but difficult to see with the sun shining today.

Yes, the is peeling of the anti-reflective coating that covers the screen. Samsung will replace your panel under warranty. Just curious, do you know your build date?

Hows the sound quality on the PN59D8000? I"m coming from a sony KDL-52XBR6 with a build in sound bar (good sound), and I"m wondering if I'll need to buy a sound bar for this set?

It`s darker now and doesn`t look like scrolling for 18 hours did much.

I don't even consider most tv's these days to have usable speakers...and the one time I used the ones on this I immediately turned them off. I'd get a sound bar at a bare minimum, of course full fledged sound system much better .

yeah i have a sound system but its inconvient to turn it on and off just for normal tv watching, I was looking at soundbars -- are the samsung soundbars seamlessly integrated with the samsung HDTV's? -- i.e. does it automatically disable the TV speakers and does it automatically work with the samsung TV remote without any special programming?

You could probably set your remote to turn 'em both on from the comfort of your couch. Depends on the audio quality you like, for what I generally watch, it's just as important as the video content. Know nothing about soundbars myself. Perhaps the Samsung website would be of assistance...

For just normal tv viewing the speakers of this tv are more than enough.

It is frustrating, I know. I'm not sure what we can do other than hours of scrolling, and that doesn't seem to be fixing our IR. I wonder if there's anything better, or even more aggressive than scrolling.

it's a May build date, coincidentially I have noticed that May was a troublesome build month for these sets. Should I call Samsung or the retailer where the warranty was purchased?

It is really an awesome tv and the peeling is ever so small but it is noticeable.

I assume you are still under Samsung's warranty, in which case I would just file a claim with them. A panel replacement is a pretty big deal, so I would be more comfortable with an authorized Samsung repair person (even though the work is usually just contracted out and they are not the most capable techs in my experience).

Yep, thanks for the info.

I am just so irritated that I will have to remove the tv from the mount etc....

Bad enough, it's 6 clicks to turn PIP on, now very often my sound choice for PIP (Sub Picture) is lost very often. I cannot nail down the steps causing it. I set it to Sub Picture, powered off, powered on, and it was fine. But more times than not, when I enable PIP, the sound is back to the Main Picture.

I have the latest software installed, or so I'm told when I try to upgrade online. Is this a known bug in the latest build or something? Very frustrating.

Don't get me wrong, I still love my new PN64D8000 that I just got about 2 weeks ago. Finally watched a movie on BD, and it was absolutely amazing! But I do use PIP often, so would love a solution for this, and to find a way to enable PIP with less than 6 clicks too!

I went through the steps of calling Samsung and I have been contacted by a local authorized repair shop for a panel replacement. I don't want to sound like an idiot but what part of the TV is the panel? The person I talked to seemed like he was very familiar with the Samsung Plasma's and replacing panels. Like I have said, I really like the TV and I don' want to create a bigger issue by going through this panel replacement.

The panel is the entire screen of the TV.

Actually, it's the screen (panel) and all the boards needed to drive the screen. Only the power supply board and the main board are taken from your old panel and used with the new panel.

They do not always replace all of the boards but you are correct that is normally what they end up doing.

Given that a panel replacement is basically the entire television I think my description was close enough

i'm resigned to the fact that espn is burned into my pn59d8000. hasn't really changed much since i last reported it a few months ago. haven't been too diligent about running scrolling. only been staying off espn when not actively watching it. it's pretty ridiculous that the bar and espn logo are on the whole time, including commercials. too bad espn (and other channels) can't be more considerate, and occasionally move the position of their ticker bars (ie to the top or sides).

I had scrolling on for almost 48 hours on mine, I can still see IR from the logo on white backgrounds....

that is crazy man, I thought modern plasmas were supposed to be immune to this. what do you think caused it?

When the new board is unpacked, it looks like this. The blank space in the center is where the power supply from the old panel goes. The other blank space at the lower right is where the old main board goes.

The speaker boxes are attached at the bottom.

They all come this way.

For me, it was many hours of running the break-in slides followed by watching news and sports. Silly me.
