.....fire twirling guy is AMAZING! and this clip is perfect for my SLOW-MO experiments... any chance i can get the .raw file? thanks.

I got a bunch of camp fire footage when I was there. Also got footage of a blacksmith actually pounding hot metal around the camp fire one night as well. Bunch of neat stuff, and you can see great detail when I zoomed in on things.

I could provide the raw file. Just have to figure out where I'd decide to upload it to. Also to figure out how large the file even is. I'm not home right now, but I'll look into it later.

In full 60i, the wobbling looks twice as bad as it does through YouTube as they have a 30fps rate.

i usually have weekends off and guess what's coming up! yehey.. would be interested to see if id see it on my bigger screen. thanks.

On the XA10 I set it to manual focus, 20db auto gain limit, manual white balance using the kelvin adjustment. Think it was around the 3000-3500 temperature area. 30fps. Everything else was automatic.

Yeah, the camera's capabilities are amazing. Really nice lilfurbal.

Which is interesting Dave, since I shoot in nothing but 60i...a worst case scenario as you mentioned, and there's nothing visible on my 60" plasma.

That's another often overlooked point with the G10s/XA10s low light, you can actually use a zoom in lousy light. I've never been able to do that with other cams since as soon as you begin zooming, there goes whatever little light you had.

Yep. I want to go out and do one of my night shoots with my tripod to really capture the potential of the canon. Maybe tonight.

Yeah, the light lost while zooming seems to be very little compared to other things I've used. While it does get a little darker, it still produces very nice results.

That's how you know it's a good lens. On my big Sony it is very subtle. On my little Sony it is VERY noticeable.

God I miss it too, man. Got the whole giant boxset on blu-ray and one of these days I will revisit in order.

Dave, as I recall the show was shot in 1920X1080, but since it aired on ABC, it was only 720p. I seem to recall reading that the PQ was much better on BD since it was at the full rez.

Ok please don't laugh. Just shot this on my iPhone at lunch and uploaded through the vimeo app (so the quality is probably crap) but gives a rough idea of what I was doing handwise while shooting the wobble video yesterday. Actually probably a bit less.

I'm glad you explained the video first LOL If you only watched a few seconds it may have been a different type of clip. Lol

Doh!

Yeah, people walking by were wondering what the hell I was doing. Luckily this is NYC where most anything goes and also I work in Times Square so the touristos are usually busy looking up.

Yeah I got it on bluray as well. It looks fantastic compared to the tv airing. Amazing. I recently finished watching through it all again a few months ago. That's a show that just demanded low light capabilities lol.

You can get a free account on Vimeo and as long as it's 500MB or less you should be ok just check off the box that allows downloading of Raw files.

That may work. It may be less then 500mb, will check in a bit. If it is I'll give it a whirl. I already have an account made there. Have yet to upload anything.

Here's a link to 9 XA10 reviews on the B&H site, some who describe themselves as 'professional'. The cam got an average of 5 stars (the highest rating) and not one person mentioned jello or a poor OIS. So does that mean these people shoot more like me or does it mean there really is a difference in the OIS relative to the G10? Who knows?

Here's a link to the B&H review site for the G10. Only 4 reviews here, and again 5 out of 5 stars and nobody mentioned jello or poor OIS. To me this means that either (as I mentioned this distinct possibility before) people simply don't see it, don't shoot in a way that would bring it out or, all of these are lucky guys who got a perfect G10 (no, I don't believe that).

BTW, one reviewer even mentioned it was the best IS he's ever used.

Another possibility is that pros often shoot in manual or a program mode and might not be using the dynamic mode? Or they are shooting with tripods?
Just thinking. Or maybe it is different. I will try to get to bhphoto early next week to check out an xa10

Always possible.

The XA10 is great fun. While I am new to the whole XLR mic deal, I've been experimenting to bring out the best of the features this camcorder provides. While I have an event lined up already where the camcorder will be able to be connected to a 16 channel sound board, I'm interested in finding that perfect XLR mic that is a reasonable cost but an upgrade from the 3.5mm mic I currently have. And stereo is preferred for an onboard ambiance capturing mic.

I was playing around with a shotgun mic I posted a picture of earlier in this thread. Ended up returning it though as a shotgun mic may not be what I'm ultimately looking for. The other videos I posted, including the fire spinning video, were done using a Rode Stereo VidMic. Great mic, of course, but since I paid the $500 for this XA10 I feel compelled to push it to its limits. Next week I'll be able to play around with a dual-cabled XLR stereo mic...

Looking forward to playing with that. Audio samples are stunning. Is a bit more expensive then I was looking to spend on a mic though. But hell, I already spent $2000 on the camcorder. I figure the amazing video deserves some amazing audio.
