I have been messing around in the menus I don't have the manual with me and can not find the divide scenes anywhere, what menu item is this located under thanks.

I'm not with my camcorder right this moment either, but the option comes up when you are viewing videos and click 'edit'. play back a video, pause it and there should be some sort of option to edit or divide scene. it will then divide the scene right where you had it paused.

They blend or interpolate the fields to create a new solid image.

Ok, so is there a way to fix it?
Like maybe convert 50i to 50p in software or something?
I wave stuff around on camera like this all the time, and the combing just looks absolutely terrible.
Is the only option to shoot in PF25?

Thanks
Dave.

Hi Dave. It's rarely noticeable at 60i here in NTSC land. I wonder if since 50i is less frames, you perceive it more?
I only shoot in 30p now since most of my stuff goes on the Internet so I'm not the most qualified to ask here.

Give it a try maybe?

Hey everyone...

I shot with my XA10 for the first time tonight. I filmed a wedding and mounted a light with a battery to the top of the XLR handle. By doing this it made the camera extremly front heavy. Does anyone have any solutions to offer up to counter balance this? I have the BP819 battery on the back, but it's still front heavy. For me it could make the difference to keep the camera or send it back.

Use the BP-829 battery that things a monster and will easily weigh down the back. It might become tail heavy tho.

Philip Bloom has just reviewed the XA10 / XF100 / XF105:

http://philipbloom.net/2011/07/09/vi...100-and-xf105/

He seemed to really like the XF100. Only negatives really was the bokeh; he said it looked too "gaussian blurish".

try a lighter LED light. I use the litepanel LED lights.
Also, like Steve said, try a bigger Canon battery. I bought 2 of the BP827 and they balance well with a shotgun attached upfront.

Another great review by Philip Bloom!
One note on the 422 color space. 420 isnt that bad and unless you have critical commercial assignments, there really is no need to go so much bigger in camcorder sizing just for that.

i love Philip Bloom's review of the XA10 and XF series.
Since Bloom is from Europe, I cant help but add that many of the old grand museums of Paris and elsewhere no longer allow midsize to large camcorders, like in the Louvre.
The last time I was there with my Sony PMW-EX1 which is not exactly large, the attendants told me to bag it. The XA10 is ideal for visits to the Louvre. In New York, The Met does not allow camcorders of any sort. To film, you'll have to take stills and make your own moving images.

I love how Bloom say the images from the XA10 and XF100/105 are nearly indistinguishable.

Yup. I said that a long time ago when the first comparison images were posted. Some XA10 clips looked better and some XF100 clips looked better despite the difference in color sampling. I've said so many times, you just can't go by specs! There was simply no clear cut winner. But man, he really liked the image quality didn't he!

Could one film with a DSLR?

yes at the Louvre but no at the Met

Hey, I just got my first paying gig. About 2 weeks from now. Small money and the video can't be posted but it will give me a chance to see how well the HF G10 works. I still need a mic and a stabilizer.

Awesome, Steve

The little opteka x-grip helps a LOT. also has a shoe up top for a light, shotgun mic etc...

You can also set it down safely. And even attach the whole thing to a tripod. Hard to beat for the $

Yeah I was thinking of getting one for like $30, but I really want a proper stabilizer, my hands aren't the steadiest and I need smooth shots for closeups and whatnot. I can't use a tripod most of the time unfortunately.
Do you use consent forms? I know you do video's do the models have to sign a consent form?

Because it involves nudity and sex. It's not my first choice but it'll do.

Not for what I'm getting paid.
I can get a lot more jobs like this if I do really well on this project.
Right now just my expenses are being covered, since I'm an amateur that's reasonable.
Once I get some more experience, I can actually charge decent money for this. I have a few contacts that once I'm good enough I can get a decent fee. I need a few more things for my camera as well.
Plus gotta justify the cost of Sony Vegas 10 somehow.

I just got my Wasabi Power BP-819 battery as recommended and it works a treat. Fully decoded so it shows the remaining power display, and a full battery test got just over 4 hours continuous recording in 7Mbps mode on my HF G10.
Time will tell how many cycles they will last.

Thanks
Dave.

Why not just use the optical stabilisation in the HF G10?
It's practically the best on the market and works incredibly well, even at full x10 zoom. I can hold my hand at arms length on full x10 zoom, and it's like the thing is on a tripod! (not that I really ever use x10 zoom)
But as always, YMMV.

Dave.

Congrats.
I had my first paying gig late last year. They flew me from Sydney to LA for the gig and paid well, but I was green, so definitely learned a few things:
1) My cheapo Sanyo Xacti HD-1010 wasn't up to the task.
2) Battery life was a killer on an all-day shoot.
3) My Azden WM-PRO wireless mic sucks and was almost useless.
4) Good monitor headphones are needed in noisy environments for checking clips.
5) Editing on the fly in a hotel room at 2am is not fun.

Dave.

@Steve,Ken and Dave. I work in the field that Steve is talking about.I tested one of the Small 1chip cams (Sony N70) It was NOT up to the task...nowhere near my old Z1 and most editors don't want to deal with avchd. The Canon may be fine for amateur web based
stuff.ymmv.
Yeah The Sony n70's big selling point is the water and dust proofing and full manual controls.
Otherwise it's the same as the cx700 PQ-wise which underwhelmed me. I think the PQ from the hx100v is actually better.
And the canons certainly better

Do you have any video clips posted, ya know just to see how the nx70 did. It could be a plus for those shower scenes.

Sorry but the HF G10 is good with Standard stabilization. It's Dynamic gives you a funhouse effect tho.
Look up Hague MMC on YouTube and then tell me the one in teh camera is good enough.
Here is the Hague MMC.
