My 5500 doesn't do it when I turn the TV on game mode. I haven't tried any of the other modes, but I know when I first was using my 360 and didn't have it on game mode, it happened on all of the loading screens. With game mode on, it doesn't happen on any of the screens.

If you have a screen that is completely black except one small part, (i.e. an all black screen with the text "Loading" in the center), you don't see a band that goes across the entire set that makes that row lighter than the rest of the set?

You really don't see this at all? What version of the tv software are you running? If you have a chance to post your settings, please do.

Thanks for the responses. I wish Vizio had it's 2011 line released so I could compare, but the LG 55LV5500 is only $1654 right now at Amazon.com. I think that sale ends soon.

Such difficult decisions...

Just got mine 42lv5500 and I was reading all the posts and I have couple of?'s. I am new to the current technologies capable on our TV's I see that ISF is a good new option. Can you guys tell me if that option is working well and should I set it to auto? Do I have to set any other picture wizards, or this will take care of it all for my viewing pleasures? I just unboxed mine and I will try to set it up soon. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, how does DLNA work on this TV, can I be watching WMP or any other pictures, music on the laptop and then stream it to the TV, or its only particular files that can be streamed? I also see Media link, what exactly is that and what are the benefits to that feature? Thank for all your help.

Hi, im thinking of buying 42LV5500, It'll mostly be for gaming and blue ray movies. My biggest concern is the input lag. I own a PS3 and also HDfury gamer's edition. Since most games are 720p and i will be using the vga port to reduce lag, i was wondering how is the upscaling lag on this model.

The last couple questions asked I can't really comment on, except that the Sony set is 3D so comparing to this LV5500 is apples to oranges.

Just wanted to say LG listens when you email them from their support website. I recently sent them a complaint about ISF not being available in the quick menu when using Media Link and how the local dimming feature needs to have configurable options in the menu. I also mentioned my complaint about the sorting options in Media Link so hopefully any or all of these get attention from LG. If anyone has any more suggestions I'd highly recommend sending them in to LG while the product is still new and they're paying attention to user input.

How is MediaLink working for everyone? I can't get mine to work. I've installed it on two of my laptops and when I go to the MediaLink icon on the TV, it tells me it can't find a media server. Any help?

It works the way it's supposed to for me, only exception is that the TV can't find the server if the pc was in sleep mode. I always have to shutdown Plex and restart it on the server then it works fine after that.

My pc has been used for so many different server/applications that by the time I started using Plex it's hard to tell exactly what is required from a stock setup. But I suggest if you can't connect with Media Link then make sure you can connect with DLNA. Go to Windows Media Player, Click on Stream in the top bar, then Automatically Allow devices to play media. Then make sure WMP has some sort of media listed below. Then from the TV, change input to DLNA and see what happens. There's some info on http://www.plexapp.com about your problem also.

Thanks for the info. Too bad I live in the past and am still on XP. I'll have to find a computer with Win 7 on it to try it on there. You think there's incompatibility with Plex, Win XP, and the TV?

I didn't mention this before but disable or configure any firewall/anti-virus software if you haven't already before trying to connect with Plex from the TV.

Plex lists as being compatible with XP so it shouldn't be a problem. WMP 11 is the last version XP supports but 11 has streaming also, just in a different spot.

When my cable DVR goes into screen saver pause mode it moves a small image around a black screen on my LG 42LV5500 LCD LED TV. Surrounding the moving image is a rectangular less black area that follows the image as it moves. What is this effect called? Flashlighting? Local Dimming? What?

Wow, I thought I got a great deal on my 42LV5500 from Fry's when I got it for $899. $799 for the 47" is almost half off.

After a little research on the forums here, what is happening is an effect of Edge Lit LED's with Local Dimming. There's no way to dim the screen in segments like a full array LED. The light is propagated from the edges to cover the whole screen so for something in the middle of the screen to be lit up, light has to pass from the sides. They say future edgelit led's will be able to handle this better, but for now it is what it is. I emailed LG support requesting they provide options to turn down or off the dimming feature but I haven't heard back. I would suggest others send LG emails also.

Also of note, a new firmware was pushed a early this week. Has anyone noticed any difference with it? I see no difference anywhere.

Had to jump on one today to replace a broken Panny 42" 720p plasma. You gotta love the deals at Frys sometimes. I was prepared to spend up to $1300 or so but with deal I feel like I got everything I wanted for a whole lot less (didn't want 3d capability for the bedroom but wanted internet).

Has anyone here mastered the Smart TV Web Browser? Maybe I'm dumb, but I find it to be very user unfriendly & un-intuitive. Although I've looked, the only mention of it in the User Manual is that it might (or might not) be enabled - depending on what part of the world you're in. Mine's enabled OK, but I'm having trouble understanding the functions of the buttons along the bottom of the window, searching the web & saving favorite web sites.

I'd love to have some help &/or hear what others are experiencing.

The web browser is pretty clunky and not much to it. Here's about the full extent of what it can do (that I've found).

Button
------
Back = Browser back button
Red = Home Page = Favorites
Green = Zoom Out
Yellow = Zoom In
Blue = Add to favorites which pops up a text box and keyboard to name it.

Q. Menu = Address bar and settings options to clear cache/cookies.
Stop = Google search input box

Arrow Pad moves cursor around.

Nice. I received notice that my set shipped Friday, but I don't have a delivery date yet. Should be this week. Only thing I'm a bit disappointed in, is that all the pics I found tended to show the set as a matte border around the screen. I went into a BB this weekend to see the set in person, and it has a very glossy border. For the price, I'm not going to complain though.

Thanks for the summary, that will help. I had about half of the buttons figured out but you've very nicely filled in the gaps.

"Clunky" is an apt description of the web browser. It sure leaves a lot to be desired. I also find the wand (mouse) to be some what aggravating at times, but that may just be my lack of experience in using it. Frankly, I wish LG (or third party) would offer a decent sized keypad in place of the wand. Maybe some thing like the Samsung, not the Sony or Harmony - keys are too tiny to use with my fingers in dim light.

Just got the 47" from Fry's today. Replacing a 48" Mitsubishi RPTV that is just going to be too big for the new apt.

Something that was strange was when I updated the firmware it didn't update to the newest one. So I couldn't get medialink to work. So I updated again to get the current firmware just in case, and of course medialink works right. Also the LG Android app now pairs to the TV.

Just got Plex working and seeing how my x264 rips look and wow. I really like this TV. I also love the matte screen as I don't understand why anyone would want anything else.

Will give some more comments tomorrow as I play around with the TV some more. =)

My question is where are people seeing what is coming as far as Applications?

I was hoping (assuming) this had Pandora - but it doesn't...

I will setup streaming from my desktop, but my little boy and wife love Pandora!

It may be coming later this summer. I know that apparently Hulu Plus and a few other apps are slated to be released late summer, early fall.

On a related note...since I'm still waiting for my TV to be delivered, does anyone have any experience with the TV reading movies from a WHS box, or with a Playon server? I've seen a few articles regarding the use of Plex, but haven't seen anything mentioned with PlayOn.

Having had nothing but glossy screen plasmas for the last 6 years, I am really digging the matte screen. No going back to glossy screens for me!

Now just need somebody to post some good calibration settings

LG has said Hulu Plus is coming probably 3Q and I can't remember but I think Pandora and Skype also. They just added several video feed apps to the store this week, Nasa, Discovery News and quite a few other are spankin new. As a big bonus, Media Link (Plex) has it's own plugin system we can use and Pandora is in there but I haven't tried it yet. It's hit or miss if the Plex plugins right now but gives another option.
