Hi everyone, I have joined up to participate in this thread!
Basically, I purchased a ps51d450 (EU model - im in the UK) which came with firmware T-MSV4DEUC -1005.0, nothing newer is listed on the samsung site. I presume the software T-MST4DEUC -1025.0 is for a different revision of the internal hardware.
Anway, I wanted to share my display settings with you all and some comments!
First off, the only thing connected to this TV is a brand new slim PS3 via HDMI, into port 1, so all my Blu-rays and DVD (+Games) come from that. Since purchase (last sat) I have been constantly trying to get a good picture and only tonight am I satisfied after doing something a bit unusual. I have been using the AVSHD calibration disc.
The problem I was having was that my greyscale was always tinted toward pink, making it difficult to get a nice flat white and a good progressive greyscale. While messing around in the service menu i performed a "Factory Reset" and since that point - my o my has my picture improved!
So, here goes with my settings:PS3 -
-- 1080p 24hz output - AUTOMATIC
-- BD/DVD Video Output Format(HDMI) - RGB
-- Video Output Settings - ALL HDMI modes selected (720p,1080i,1080p)
-- RGB Full Range - FULL
-- DEEP COLOUR OUTPUT - AutomaticTV -
-- Picture Mode - Standard
-- Cell Light - 12
-- Contrast - 94
-- Brightness - 56
-- Sharpness - 30
-- Colour - 49
-- Tint(G/R) - G51/R49
-- BlackTone - Off
-- Dynamic Contrast - Off
-- Gamma - 0
-- Colour Space - Auto
-- Whitebalance - Unchanged from default (all 25)
-- Fleshtone - 0
-- Edge Enhancement - Off
-- Motion Lighting - Off
-- Colour Tone - Standard
-- Digital Noise FIlter - Off
-- MPEG Noise Filter - Off
-- HDMI Black Level - Normal
Using these settings, im getting a lovely neutral white, great greyscale, sharp focus without halos, not too bright an image but with lovely deep blacks without shadow detail being crushed. So far, since the factory reset, I havent seen any contrast or brightness pops and the upscaled DVD is just mindblowing.
Hope this might help out someone, or give a good base to start from
p.s. remember I never got my best results until AFTER i did a factory reset in the service menu - not sure what it changed but its sure better than when I took it out of the box (it was brand new) so it might be worth a try.
