Ugh. I've had it since day 1. I'll contact Samsung I guess and see if it's under warranty.

I'm starting to get tiny red sparkles in dark scenes on my pn51d450. It's not big patches of red snow but like single red pixels here and there. Is this just the beginning and it will turn into full blown red splotches everywhere? It was made September 2011 and purchased in December.

Hey everyone!! I have a question to anyone that can answer. I currently own a pn51 d490. I noticed some image retention/burn-in and I went to check out my settings. When I went to pixel shift, it would not let me enable it. Is there something that I am doing wrong??? Please help me.

Thank you to everyone that has been posting!!! You guys have been a real help for in choosing my t.v. and calibrating it.

Thanks in advance!

Ok. I figured out my pink hue problem that I had with my whites. The problem started after changing the settings to D7000 but couldn't get the HDMI issue firgured out so i put it on the 560 mode. After that, all the whites running thru the hdmi channels had a pinkish hue. The problem was the HDMI failure. Reset the HDMI test and it brought up three pink boxes on the screen and then said success. Turned off the tv and then turned it on. Bam whites are white again. Just letting everyone know in case they run into the same problem.wink.gif

Hi guys

I recently bought the E490 51 inch plasma. Will the picture settings you guys have here in the forums for the D490 work for my E490? Also I hear a low buzz from my TV is that normal. I have the ferroite cores on but not entirely sure if I have them in the right place.

In regards to the red sparkles/snow issue - i had this and i think i've got rid of it! Try going into the tools menu and select the power saving settings. I changed mine to high and the problem seems to have gone. You'll need to adjust your picture settings again afterwards otherwise the screen may seem a bit dark.

Hey guys,

I've got a PN43D450 and I'm liking it very much! I only have a small grudge that I'm hoping you could help me with.

After some searching, I've figured the difference between the 16:9 and Screen-Fit modes. Between the two, Screen-Fit is the better choice to have a 1:1 pixel mapping of the source so it's the one I'd like to use to view Blu-rays with my PS3.

But for some reason, when I choose the Screen-Fit mode, the last column of pixels to the right are blank. My only source is the PS3, but this happens in the XMediaBar, as well as in games and HD movies. With the over-scanning provided by 16:9, the pixels are used; proving that they are not dead.

Is this a normal phenomenon? I figured it might be in order to have some "extra-room" to play with for the Pixel Shift setting to prevent image retention but I disabled that feature and it didn't solve the problem.

Would anyone know what is going on here?

Thanks!

How bad is the flickering brightness levels( I think it's called floating blacks)?

is there a way to fix it?

Anyone try the cinema smooth hack on the 51 inch E490?
Does anyone watch their 51" on Dynamic? I do, I just have the cell light down to 7 or 8. I've tried Standard, but that too dim, and Movie is too dull. I like the brightness and colors on Dynamic. Just have the cell light turned down a notch. What's the best settings for the 51"?

the TV will power on and after a moment go into the service menu. Select the "Option" menu, go down to "Model" and change it for a model in the 550/560 range.

Press power button to exit the service menu.

When you power the tv back up, ALL of your settigns will be reset to defaults, but CinemaSmooth will now be available in the Picture Options menu ONLY for 1080p/24hz inputs.

You could have read back a few pages you know, i wrote all this out before!

I have a 720p D450. How can I access the Cinema Smooth feature? Mine has no option for the PD550, it goes from PD450 to PD451 then to PB series...

Hoping someone can help.
PN51D450A2DXZA
Noticed recently that the display has what appears to be either purple (if the background is a darker shade) or black (if a lighter shade) dots that are obviously pixels, moving randomnly on the screen. Its only noticeable sometimes, but mainly during darker scenes. But on for instance my WDTV Live main display (mostly light blue colors) this issue is not present at all.....seems on mostly brightly lit screens that its non existant. It has gotten worse over the last few weeks....notibly since i moved from los angeles to denver...i recall reading that altitude effects plasmas?
I am wondering if there is a firmware update for my display? Or perhaps its a hdmi cable issue....although i doubt it.
I'd imagine having a samsung repair guy come out would be as much as a replacement panel!

Appreciate any help.

Did you try noise reduction ?
Kids room getting upgraded so I'm undecided between two TV sets.

The PN51D450 (720P) or the LG 47LS4600 (1080p)

What do you think is the better choice. It will play mostly downloaded 720p movies and Blu-Ray discs. Viewing distance is at 12 feet also.

I will make a new thread if needed but I figured since this TV is one I am considering I would also post it in here.

http://slickdeals.net/f/5646298-LG-50PA5500-50-Class-Full-HD-1080p-Plasma-TV-399-99. This seems like a really good deal.. If you're just looking for a cheap 50 inch plasma with no 3d.

I just got home from Wal-Mart with a 43 PN43E450 ($398). I got home with my first one and then as I was taking it out of the truck noticed 2 fork lift stab wounds in the side of the box. I thought it might still be okay so I take it inside and open it. Nope, shattered screen. So I head back to Wal-Mart and stand in a huge return line for 20 minutes and get my money back. That WalMart had no more of this TV so I had to go to a different one and pick up a replacement.

The second one is good. I tweaked the picture using settings I found here and at first I wasn't blown away. It still seemed dim but my once my eyes adjusted from being used to being torched by an LCD it does look great. I have blacks again!! I turned on an episode of Fringe off my DVR. It looks great. There really is so much more depth to the picture when all the blacks aren't grey. I got a TCL 42" LCD on Black Friday for $179 and I thought I would be able to deal with it but its black levels were horrendous and its viewing angle was the worst I've ever seen on any TV. This is sooo much better.

Has anyone found a happy medium in calibrating a PNxxD450 with the new Nintendo Wii U. The colours look WAAAY off to me on this thing. I think it has to do with the Wii U having limited range output or something, but I'm really struggling here. It almost feels like everything is getting a colour punch into overdrive, but adjusting those settings doesn't seem to help.

Cheers.

Also, to answer an earlier post about cinema smooth on this model. I think I had to input the PD550 manually, but I might be recalling incorrectly.

I just realized now that I have yet to try 'game mode' on this tv. Does that actually effect the colour at all?

Today my PN43D450 made a loud pop and the screen went dead. The red light just flashes and the TV clicks every few seconds but it never turns on. Warranty ran out in October piece of junk didn't even last 2 years. Sounds like the bad capacitor problem they got sued for awhile back.

My PN51D450 is starting to get the red snow a little bit more, now it has a faint grey horizontal line right through the middle of the screen when a light color or white dominates the screen, and certain colors along the very bottom of the TV show up as light blue or if a certain shade of red is on the bottom is has black sparkles in it. Got 2 more months warranty on that POS so I'll be calling samsung about the 51".

does anyone have the values for the adc target in the service menu for the pn51d450 (american version) ?? thanks

Just picked up the PS51D490 from a friend and I love it. Not disappointed I went with the 720p version at all. I sit 12 feet from this set and the picture is Excellent. Picture is so nice right now i will just leave the setting where they are right now.

First 3D TV for me so I need to get the 3D settings done better but the wife and kids love the 3D. I downloaded that Imax Under The Sea and the part with the big Cod or whatever fish it is was crazy. My youngest got scared and snatched off her glasses. Very, very satisfied with this purchase. I'll post some pics later.

Hi guys,

was about to buy an E450 (E455) today but the salesman bombarded me with reasons for why not to buy it as it was so dated. I left the shop empty handed! So what do you think, is it too dated not being full HD and all? Especially since most TV stations are now, or are about to, broadcast in HD. Cheers.

Sorry to hear about your problem. It just so happens that these same symptoms appeared on my 13-month old PN43D490 today. When the TV's power cord is first plugged in the socket, several clicking sounds are heard and the standby light flashes intermittently. Then when the clicking stops, the standby light blinks twice four times followed by a two second pause then repeats the blinking pattern but never turns on.

Thankfully, I registered the TV right after purchasing it because that extended the manufacturer's parts and labor warranty by 3 months (15 months in total). Now I have to wait for it to get repaired. frown.gif.

A Samsung service rep came to my home today and replaced the X-Main board on the TV and that solved my problem. smile.gif So replacing the same part on your set may also solve your problem. I found a youtube video that shows how to replace this part in a Samsung TV at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDtwCxCDO5E.

Now, was it pure luck that he had that part with him? Probably not.
