Danley DIY Synergy Horn kit - Page 16

Anyone have access to physical (not acoustic) measurements of the Beyma and/or Hawthorn?

The Harwood and Aurum Cantus 30130 share physical dimensions and seem identical except for a sheet of felt damping on the back of the AC motor. The Hawthorn looks like Harwood & AC. Beyma appears similar but with a different size faceplate plus a back chamber. I wonder if these are all from the same OEM?

I have an AC 30130 here and would gladly share dimensions, diaphragm close-ups, etc.

http://profesional.beyma.com/ingles/pdf/TPL150.pdf

It doesn't share the dimensions of the AC driver. I'd be surprised if Beyma farmed this out. It appears these are all rather similar in construction though. Maybe they all use the same diaphragm. I'd be more inclined to buy from Beyma than Aurum Cantus at the same price.

What are your thoughts on the AC AMT?

Maybe this should be a separate thread about AMTs.

Yes, the faceplates are different, but I'd like to go a tad deeper and compare motor dimensions (Harwood and AC are the same). If motors are different, then clearly a different product. No testing yet, so no opinion on the AC other than it seems well made.

Agree on the thread...won't junk it up any more than this.

Curious if there is any development on this front?

I think this will continue to be a pipe dream, unfortunately. I subscribed to this thread a long time ago with the hopes that something would develop (as did dozens of others), but it probably just doesn't make good business sense for them to proceed on this project.

The answer is that the idea is not dead.

However there are a lot of other projects going on right now.

It is just not on the "top of the list" right now-but is something that Tom still wants to do.

Ivan, please tell us about the forthcoming SM80. Is it also suitable for home audio use like the SM60F (which I have been enjoying tremendously for the last year and a half)?

I love my SH 50'S lf, rf AND SH69 center and 4 sh100 surrounds. The fidelity is unmatched! You can play them very loud too and they just cruise.

The SM80 is not really intended for home usage. It is really a "different animal". We are making some changes to the production model from the prototype-so the numbers below are not the final numbers.

It is really intended for bands and small sound companies that want a loud box that is small and easy to get in the air (ie on a pole or tripod stand). Weight should be in the 50-60lb range (give or take).

It is intended to be used with a sub/bass cabinet. It will look kinda like a SM60F-but a little bit larger in all dimensions. There will also be floor monitor version for stage use.

With the prototype- I would have no problem doing rock bands for several hundred people with 1 per side-as long as I had enough subs to keep up. I would like to have 2 to 3 TH118's per SM80-depending on the type of music.

At a gig I did a little bit ago-the leader of the band was checking the monitors and said "WOW-that is the loudest monitor I have every heard!".

The low freq cutoff should be around 100Hz (hence the need for subs)-it is a sealed box (to be easier to integrate with subs). The floor monitor version will go lower-due to it being a ported box with larger internal volume.

The sensitivity should be in the 103db range (2.83V), with a peak output around 135dB (give or take on the final version). Those numbers will be determined once the production version is finished.

The pattern is 80x80 (hence the name).

There are many people who are waiting for it. I think it will be a great seller.

Ivan did you ever get the final numbers on the DBH218LC ? Is it in production?
kutlow, so you are still planning on replacing your three DTS10 with a pair of the DBH218LC?

Those cabinets are really animals of a different color. The DTS10 goes way lower (more than an octave -from the average response), but the DBH218LC goes way louder (in its intended passband).

Both have movable exits for different configurations-standing up-lying down etc.

Just so that this thread doesn't die away. If it existed, you'd have my money, no questions asked. I just prefer not to have carpeted pro-audio speakers in my living room, or else I'd buy your pro audio ones.

soooo...its safe to say this project never gained traction? The idea of a Synergy horn using a Beyma TPL-150 with high quality mid drivers similar seems very appealing to me, If it could be made to work. If only I possessed the knowledge and skill. Perhaps my lack of such is what makes me think this is a good idea though?

Cheers

+1 I'd be very keen to see one of these

A bump for old times sake and my desire for a pair.

Yes, it would be nice. But, like most things that involve large organizations, there are many priorities competing for resources...

I was told by a little birdie to encourage members to contact them (first post). The more interest, the more potential.

I'm also still waiting on a Synergy vs Noesis shootout.

Tell me when and where and I'm there.

Might not be too far away. Another fellow NC AVS member has the 212's, and I have the sm60f's. As soon as he gets back state-side we are going to hopefully get something together.

Sent as well to info@danleysoundlabs.com. Fingers crossed someday. I know the DTS-10 kit brought Danley into my awareness and many others and would love to have some Synergy's in my theater.

I know Tom has stated he would love to do a home SH design and maybe even a DIY version. BUT his business partner is not wanting that as of now. Tom is the DIY guy at heart along with Ivan. BUT maybe someday it will happen.

I myself am still collecting parts for my project SH.

Makes sense why they wouldn't do it, but I still hope they do smile.gif
