Can PS3 Display Similar to Windows Media Center?

Hello -
I was wondering if someone could give me some insight into this as I have very little background.

I have stored all of my movies on a 2TB WD MyBook Live NAS drive. I can stream them via my PS3 but was wondering if adding metadata to these files would allow me to display my movies in a similar manner as Windows Media Center does.

I guess what I am trying to ask is if I add the metadata to these movies, will the artwork be displayed to enable selection of a film based on the graphic rather than reading 300+ movie titles in a row.

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Bump? Anyone?

As far as I can tell you only get graphic previews on files on the PS3's disk. You could try it on a couple movies and see if it works, rather than doing 300

I think you are out of luck on this one.

What you want is a pc and xbmc. Words can not express my hatred for the turd that is Windows Media Center.

So I guess I would be better off building myself a HTPC and using that rather than my PS3. As for Windows Media Center, there are other apps I can use to produce the same effect. I am not limited to WMC exclusively.

Thanks to all for the responses.

An update.
I added the metadata to my movie collection and was able to view the thumbnails in WMC. When I logged into my PS3, no luck. So much for that. I guess I am off to the home theater PC thread to start my build.
Thanks again.

There's nothing wrong with 7MC. Drop in Media Browser and you are done.

That's true, I just didn't want to have to plug my laptop into the home theater every time I wanted to watch something.

It kind of eliminates the possibility of surfing the web while watching a movie.

I have all my DVDs and BDs ripped to a Windows Home Server, running PS3 Media Server. The menus using the PS3 are pretty pathetic, but it works. You just end up scrolling a lot.

It is possible to put movies into folders and select folders from the PS3, but I don't know if that would help you any.

The feature I miss most is the listing of newly added movies like I have on Media Browser.

I have the same setup WD Mybook Live connected directly to PS3. I find the PS3 does a poor job of displaying content. However you can have it show you the movie cover art. You have to convert your movies into MP4 format. Once in this format you can edit the metadata and attach coverart. This works well but is a pain if all your movies are in another file format. I find it can take around 2 hours to convert a movie from avi to mp4.
