Does anyone know what the 1021 firmware released a few weeks ago improves on? Can't find a changelog.....
What region? Last I heard, 1019.5 is the newest in North America.
Africa.
Quite silly that they do not have a change log on their website that accompanies the download IMHO!

am i the only one to find color on here is best 40-45?
Ok so is it just me or do I have to change to settings everytime I change inputs. I find this annoying as when I switch from HDMI 1, 2 or 3 it goes back to Dynamic and not the setting I had, like movie

I had the Panasonic 55ST30 for two weeks. Got it for a great price. But I had multiple issues with it (invasive green tint, very low panel brightness made watching darker movies or hockey no fun, artifacts around moving hockey/soccer players). I think I got a lemon because there are plenty of happy people with that tv. But I could not overcome the issues, and I had to return it.

The same day (yesterday) I also found a PN59D500 for the same great price so I impulsively bought it without really knowing anything about it, except that it would probably have more glare than the 55ST30, and probably not as good black levels.

To sum it up, I went from two weeks of plasma stress & frustration to a day of bliss. I am really happy with the PN59D500 so far. Yes, it has more glare, but it's in a bat cave so that's OK. Maybe the black level is not as good as with the 55ST30, but I guess I am not discerning enough to notice. What I am noticing and loving about the PN59D500 though is the larger screen (awesome!), the ability to get the panel brighter when desired (hockey looks great), the great colors right out of the box, and the general PQ. I can tell that with some playing around with the settings, I will be very happy with this set.

So far so good!

Cheers,

Wayne

I have the d550. I want to use the ON timer but I want it to tune automatically to HDMI slot 4 since I have satellite and am not using cable. How is this possible and why wouldn't it be an option (but USB is an option).

Thanks.

Anyone else find color 40-45 is better then 50?
Ok So I have the PN51 and on the Cars 2 blu ray it has a thx optimizer. Is it me or is it hard to notice a difference with the adjustment bar right in the middle of the tv. I can see all the grey and black lines but there is a tiny square in the bottom that is constantly moving.

***edit*** Nevermind. Its just my lighting in the room. Will have to wait til its a little darker i guess

Well, the day after posting that, I noticed some pink tint. It kind of started out in a couple of areas: left 1/4 of screen, and another wide vertical band approx 2/3rds towards the right. It might be becoming more uniform pink across the entire screen as time passes (not sure though). Note: I'm at approx 70 hours on it now.

At any rate, the only place I have noticed it so far is on the ice when watching hockey (well, I can maybe see it at times in sky/clouds if I really look for it).

Even by my picky standards, it's not a big deal, and I'm pretty sure that I can live with this because (a) I really don't notice it when watching other content, and (b) I am otherwise loving the colors and picture quality of this TV.

I did some googling, and I couldn't seem to find any "pink tint" issues with the D550's, so maybe it is rare. At any rate, if anyone has any thoughts on the matter, I'm all ears.

Otherwise, I'll just hope and pray that the problem at least doesn't get worse over the next few weeks, because I really don't want to even consider returning it.

Thanks,

Wayne

what are your tint(G/R) settings?

Thanks for asking. They are at G50/R50. Fwiw, the pink is not uniform - there are a couple of large vertical bands/blobs. I did just put on my white slide and try changing the tint(G/R) settings, but it didn't really seem to make a difference with the pink.

The good thing is that it hasn't gotten worse and I it doesn't seem to affect the PQ/colors in 95% of the content that I watch. With the other 5% (ie hockey), it's easy to ignore or even to not notice. Still, I hope it goes away!

Give it time to break in.
I also thought my panel was trending towards red tint, especially on ESPN channels. I no longer feel that way after having mine for almost 8 weeks.
I have not moved my tint settings.

2 or 3 times now when I turn on the panel in the morning after at least 6-7 hours of being off, I notice some cells that are black on the bottom right but seem to "melt away" after a few seconds and then I do not see any issue in that area. They appear as short horizontal lines, and the melting effect seems to be them waking up and coloring correctly. Need I be worried?
Also, for the first time today, I see faint image retention of the ESPN logo in the bottom right. Strange because I was not watching that channel last night at all. I hope this is not the beginning of headaches just as the 8 week mark arrives.
I do have the shifting on with size set to 16:9 though I did have it on fit (with no shift as that disables it) for a few weeks but we dont leave it on 24/7 and even when watching a game we tend to flip around.

How bright looks white on this tv?
Hi guys.... this threads here have been really helpful. I Have a question...

I'm from Mexico, so I want to buy here my big stuff in order to make the guaranty efective without having to take it out of the country and having all the trouble that comes with it.

So... I just saw in Sam's Club the beautiful 59 D550 at a good price, and I would like to get ot in a copule of months if not before that.

My question is: Will I have the BRIGHTNESS POPS issue with this "new" set???
Here is called PL59D550C1F, and I'm not sure if they have the latest firmwire that corrects the brightness pops, or even if the one for your USA models applies for the Mexican models.

What do you guys think and what do you recommend me ???

thanks so much in advance!

All I can say is that I bought a new PN59D550C1FXZC on Mar05 without knowing anything about brightness pops. And luckily I still don't know anything about them, because I haven't noticed a single pop

It probably has to do with the build date though. My hunch is that you would be fine, but due to your situation, I would keep on investigating to be as sure as possible.
Thankyou WayneNumm... I would like to think that in case mine do not have the latest updates due to build date, a firmwire must exist for it also.

I picked up a 51d550 a few days ago and so far I'm mildly impressed by it. I'm still getting use to it after having a Sony FD Trinitron 32" CRT for 11 years.

Now, I'm just wondering if its possible to semi-turn the 550 into a 6500 via different firmware? I want to see if its possible to unlock the Cinema Smooth feature for the 550.

The 550 does support CinemaSmooth. It's under the "Film Mode" settings. It will only be selectable when you feed it a 24hz signal.

Oh nice, thanks. I had thought that it might have been called something else.

People, does the 64" Samsung (PN64D550C1F) do proper 24 fps? I cannot find anything other 600hz listed for this line of plasmas.

I absolutely must be able to view my Blu-Rays in 1080p at 24fps. Not being able to is a deal breaker for me, so I would appreciate clarification on this line as i begin my research on a new HDTV purchase.

Thanks!

Picked up a 59D550 last week to replace a failing 50B550, first set was on the wall for 20 minutes when the screen went black and came back on with a purple line down the left hand side.
Exchanged the next day and wow... A huge improvement over the B550. Deeper blacks, no IR whatsoever, much brighter, and much more stable picture. The b550 had noticeable flicker and dancing pixels, mostly on static images like my PC desktop I always thought that's just how plasmas were, the D550 has a more still picture on static images. I had a hard time deciding between a few different sets around the same price, in the end size won and I'm very pleased. Now back to the Game of Thrones BD set.

The D550 supports 24hz content and pretty well IMO.
