wow thats a big difference, what mml is yours outputting in movie mode,
mine is only 95 max and standard at max is 139mll, im on firmware 026 now again which is what the tv come with, never tried 1024 and 1025(so dont know the differeces)
and i did see your previous post about the temp,
its just a pain as it resets the tv setings, i really should of cheacked the temps, but i know for sure the difference was day and night.

Good news bro, mute+7+3+7+enter when the TV is on doesn't reset your settings, it's not service menu but only logic board menu and this one leave your settings as they are

Regarding the fbrfix, my 100% black was 0,006 cd/m² before and 0,002 cd/m², 3 times less in the worst case, 24p and cinemasmooth !

PS51D550 for me.

I spent 2 weeks fiddling with a Panny 55ST30 trying to get it to look OK to my eyes, but I couldn't. I kind of got the PN59D550 spontaneously, because it was $100 less than the 55ST30, and was really the size that I was after. In summary, I have been completely thrilled with the PN59D550. Excellent everything. The only thing to watch out for is the rather reflective screen. If you have a light controlled room though, it shouldn't be in issue.


I found some SSG-4100GB's at the local London Drugs (Canada) store for $30 per pair. They take a battery, but I figure the battery will last a year or two, so it seems economical to me. They are very light and comfortable.

Thanks for the information Kevin. So I guess everyone posting all of their particular settings are of no good to anyone else, if each panel is unique. Thanks for the advice about needing the right equipment to calibrate or this hack really does you no good.

As far as pros and cons for doing the hack from what I can see they would be -

Pros:
Awesome picture

Cons:
Only very good picture
HDMI mapping issues
Loosing functionality in USBs
I thought I read something somewhere about remote control issues
What do you do about firmware updates? Do you update to the 550 or 7000?
What other issues are there?

So in thinking about this (and I've been doing way too much of that about whether to do the hack or not) this is strictly a software hack. Why can't some of you real smart fellows come up with a software hack that would allow you to do this without having to rename the set and deal with all the negative issues? Any sofware developers out there that could tackle this?

Bottom line for someone like me - Cons far outweigh the Pros for what you gain.

tvs about getting the best picture possable for me i only need 2 hdmis so as loog as 2 work im happy, the usb are nothing for me my bluray players and ps3 have them.
I have not had problems with the remote, so the question is if your gonna get te tv calibrated of buy some calibration stuff your self then you can get a awsome picture from the tv as normal,but if you want even better then the unlock is a god send, as for updating you do it as a d550, i will say one thing is that i have found a drop in sound quality from the tv it really lacks, but thats not a real problem for me as i use my amp 99% of the time.

Remote is perfectly fine, 100% OK with the hack.

The firmware upgrade is still the 550 one, no need to reverse the hack before, I tried last week from 1026 to 1027, no problem at all.

IMHO I guess the firmwares are digitally signed by Samsung for the set to accept it, so without the " master key " I don't think someone can do a custom firmware.

have you noticed any diffrence with 1027 from 1026.

Why is movie mode better for movies? It changes the color in the picture so much, almost a foggier yellowish tint

do yall use movie for gaming too?

To be honest, I can't really say, I rolled back just after to 1024 who's my favorite.

use movie mode go to the white balance and adjust the red gain down slowly then the green down slowly then the green up try red gain on 5 g gain on 8 and blue gain on 30. and see how that look on your whites.

So is the latest FW update 1027 and if so where are you getting it? Samsung still shows 1018.1 and I'm using 1019.5 from an earlier link in this forum.

The Samygo method rollback the set to 1023, this one as a bug with digital noise filter always on http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/samsung-ps51d550-201109221412.htm.

1024 corrected the bug. It seems I have better blacks with 1024 than 1025 or 1026. I don't know about black level with 1027.

To bhess5, 1027 is for eu model PS51D550, PNxxD550 have different firmware version number

Thats interesting so cheers, do you know if the output is more cdm, i measured 1023 in movie mode and it was 152cdm. 1026 was 100cdm and 1027 was 125cdm, wish i had done 1024 and 1025 now.
im happy with 1026 so wont bother changing again + the blacks i think are wasome and can be as black as the frame,(but the bigger sammys are suppose to have better blacks)

Same output as 1023 for 1024, about 150 cd/m²

1024 is the best of the 2 worlds IMO best whites and best blacks for this set

The HDMI issues w/the 7000 hack would be a non-issue if you only use one (say #1) HDMI input, right?!?!

I still have 1018.1 running on my pn64d550. I see that there are a bunch of firmware versions folks are using since the old 1018.1 still listed as the current f/w version on the Samsung site. Does anyone know why Samsung don't update their site with the newer versions?

Are the newer versions 1084, 1085, 1086 developed by Samsung or are they hacks? From what I've read, it seems that 1084 seems to be a good version . . . do I need to reset to 0000 to install 1084? And who is hosting all these new firmware versions.

isthat in movie mode, i measured 1023 and that had about 158 in movie mode which was slightly higher than standard and dynamic.

with the d7000 hack if you only need one hdmi you have to have 2 hdmis connected, and you can use a spliter like a 1 in 2 out.

Can someone here please let me know where these firmware versions are found. Also, does anyone know why Samsung don't update their site with the latest versions - they still only show 1018.1 as the latest.

Any help would be appreciated.

I thought from the lOOks of 'um the frames on the 3500 & 3700 would get in the viewing sight lines & checked 'um out at the store... they do.
Who ever designed those should get fired & who ever OK'd 'em should be fired as well.
The 3100's are comfortable & only the top & sides of the frame are in the sight line.

And got three prs & two hard cases for them on eBay just now for 86 bucks total delivered (like $70US for 3pr/original retail was $170US per pair!!).

1024 is also for EU PS model.

Just check your local Samsung.com for last firmware, there's no other way to get them.

It doesn't mean PS 1027 is better than PN 1024 for example

Sometimes there's update related to digital TV here in Europe, known as TNT and there was a lot of change in many EU countries the last couple of years.

So each time Samsung release an update for the TV tuner, that doesn't improve the set, just the tuner compatibility

Im on 1045 now as i retested my movie mode on 1026 and it was 81cdm thats with cell 18 ,contrast 95,brightness 45 and with cell and contrast on max i was getting 99cdm.

now on 1024 with cell 18, contrast 90, brightness 62 im getting 124cdm and with cell and contrast on max 158cdm. also the blacks are defo better on 1024.

Yep, 1024 is clearly best than 1025 and 1026, did you tried 1027 to see if good cdm is back ?

yes i did and it was about 5cdm more than 1026 but temprature got upto 50c and on 1026 it was 46c and and 1024 is 47c so 1024 it is, i must say the blacks are defo better i was happy before but am even happier now.
