Network enabled receiver

I am going to replace my existing receiver with one that is network enabled for the reason that I want streaming media. I also would like to get a remote that has 2 way capabilities i.e. the MX-6000. What receiver do you recommend that provides that kind of feedback to the remote?

right now I have a second zone on my existing receiver and a third would be preferrable.

Thanks in advance
Steve

how much can we spend?

what other features do you want?

Considering the remote alone will run about $1300, the lowest level Denon networking AVR is the 3311 which will run about 1/2 the price of the remote and this article would indicate the Denon AVRs have the capability to transmit the metadata that can be read by these 2-way remotes.

well depending on your budget and how you want to go about it there are a few options that will be a lot cheaper;

I have an Onkyo 1008 that I control primarily with an H1. For second zone stuff I use an ipod touch with oremote, it has full control of all functions but I use it specifically for the Z2 control.

8 gb ipod touch $229, oRemote app $4 or Irule $53. Keep in mind if you want to control other equipment using the Irule app that only has serial or IR control you will need to purchase a Global Cache unit that can run from $100 up..

It has full feedback showing current input, volume, current track etc... It can also be used with the Ipad.

I believe the irule app also has feedback at this point, and is very customizable to control all your equipment.

It depends on what you are looking for...

Forgive if I'm saying something that is not in this topic! I have an Integra DTR 40.2 and it does 2 zones from the remote.

The OP is looking for something that provides feedback, or 2 way communication, I don't believe the Integra remote has that.

Thanks to all for the input!

but beyond the multi zone control is my desire to have lighting and other control via the MSC 400's RX-232 port. So to your point Beemer, yes, I am looking for feedback on the screen of the remote. I have invested alot of money in the beginnings of a home theater in my basement, and am in need of a decent remote and have the desire to begin whole house audio. So to achieve this I will need to upgrade my reveiver. I seem to be getting lead down the integra path because of its robust RS-232 and IP controls; the Denons have also been suggested for the same reason.

If anyone has experience with the URC line your input would be appreciated. Thanks again Beemer and jdsmoothie!!

You're likely to get the best info on remote controls at RemoteCentral.

Glad to help! I don't know if you are set on the URC, but with the right Global Cache device like the GC-100-06 you will have a serial port to control whatever you need.
If the device you have is not in the database, the folks at irule are very responsive in adding components.

Add an itouch or ipad with irule and you have a very flexible/powerful remote.

There is a huge thread on irule in the AVS remote section if you are interested...

Also, with a control system like this there is no need for the AVR to have a serial port as long as IP control is enabled (all the current xxx8 Onkyos and I would assume Integras have this)
