I think I have isolated this problem. When being fed through my Onkyo receiver, the Samsung will activate the screen saver regardless of the content (Directv, Xbox, etc.). When content is being sent directly to the Samsung, i.e. Bluray, or being generated from the Samsung (Netflix), the screen saver isn't activated. In fact, last night, I paused a movie from the bluray player and it was frozen for 30 minutes and the screen saver didn't activate. So, when I actually needed the screen saver, it didn't work!

Any ideas?

Why does Best Buy and other retailers have coming soon for the PN51D7000?

Why is it not available now?

This may have something to do with the fact that this is a Magnolia HT TV and on special order. They may be moving this to the demo floor, and have it immediately available.

How I decided I will buy the 59D7000:

I was at Fry Electronics and the 59D7000 was surrounded by two 60" plasmas and the 59D8000 above it. What I noticed was that the 59D7000 (and D8000) were showing an extra inch (to two) on either side of the ESPN broadcast. The 60" TVs were a little clipped off at the sides but the 59D7000 had a wider screen. That clinched it for me.

Thats not the other displays fault, sounds like to me they had them in a mode other than 1:1 pixel mapping. They were probably overscanning.

I think buzzing is inherent with plasmas.

I don't know about buzzing but on my plasma I would get power supply singing when the brightness was turned up too high. SO I adjusted the brightness until the singing stopped, then had the rest of the controls calibrated.
Tell you guys the truth...
Not sure if it's buzzing... Since this is my first plasma to own. I can hear a sound, but only when my volume is low.
It's new so I'll see if it worsens or gets better.

I would verify that, first. Otherwise, when shows go to commercial, it will refresh those pixels. No great worry.

You know, I really wish ESPN would do this too. My Panny from last year had IR of the logo that may have been burn in, although very faint.

I wonder if we complain, would ESPN think about dropping that thick banner at the bottom during commercials. My 59D7000 is only a week old today and football starts on Thursday.

If I can find an email address I will post it to all of the plasma threads to start a written request campaign.

I ordered my PN59D7000 set last week and its finally coming in tmrw. I waited so long because of the fear of the screen peeling and now that I'm 1 day away I can barely wait! I just have a question about initial setup of the tv. Should I run the break in slides with a new tv? Or is that no longer needed for these new generation of plasmas? If you suggest I do run these break in slides how do I do so? (burn to dvd? or usb drive? i dont understand how the slides should run on the tv, flashing fast or slowly changing colors?) Also seeing as how Ive been waiting on ordering this tv for over 2 months now I do not understand why the prices of these series seems to be going up and up. About 1 month ago I could of purchased a PN59D7000 for about $1650~ but just last week when I finally decided to buy it I paid 1799$ Now im not complaining but why would the price rise over time and not drop instead? Hell i even checked amazon.com right now and the D7000(over 2150$atm) costs more than the D8000(2000$atm) Any clue as why the price changes seem so dramatic? Also the P51D7000 which was the tv I was first planning on buying cost only 1340$ and thats only around 3 weeks ago now they are over 1500$ cheapest.

I'm really impressed with this set. Even though I haven't had the opportunity to experience the "eye popping" 3D yet, the picture quality, color depth, and black levels are stellar. I haven't noticed any lag while playing games and also haven't noticed any "floating blacks" either. The one thing I have noticed, which is a minor complaint, is the slight "jutter" while trying to handle 24p. Cinemasmooth supposedly helps to alleviate this issue, however I don't like how fast everything moves with it on. It seems unnatural. Plus, the slight jutter doesn't occur enough for me to complain about it (I think I've only noticed it briefly once or twice, so it's not a significant issue).

Anyway, I hope everyone else who owns this set is enjoying it as much as I am. I am wondering, have I made a mistake of calibrating my TV right out if the box before breaking it in for 125 hours? This is the first plasma I've owned, so I didn't know about the break in time.

Now I'm off to explore some options in trying to alleviate the issue of not having a 3D passthrough receiver. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm using a PS3 and Marantz SR 7002. And no, a HDMI splitter won't work. Thanks!

I had the same issue with my receiver (non 3d pass-through) and this is what I did: HDMI from PS3 to TV and Optical cable to my receiver. Then go to your PS3 and change audio settings to use Optical cable output. I did the same thing with my 3D Player and everything is working just fine. Yep, eventually I will buy a new receiver, but from now that is the best that I can do. By the way, I am using my original HDMI cable (non 1.4) for the PS3 and 3D is working without problem. Good luck!

Heck, I paid $2300 for my 59D7000 when it first came out! I think you will be fine not running any slides, I never ran any on my set, and it is perfect. I love the thing, it is the best TV that I have ever owned.

I paid $2700 for my 64" and love it.

Hello everyone. I just wanted to tell you my experience on the PN51D7000. I've had this set for about six days, and at first I thought this was an awesome TV until I saw the dimming issue. I use my TV with my PC more than anything else. I did the Windows Notepad test and if you fill up the screen with Notepad, the screen dims quick to gray. If you slowly drag notepad off the screen, it will slowly brighten. There is no setting in the regular menu or service menu to turn this option off. I didn't ask for a gray screen with my TV when it's supposed to be white.

A Samsung tech came to my home today and went through every possible setting (he'd never seen this issue) and it's just not possible right now to turn it off. He called his higher level techs (The Samsung techs that actually work for Samsung), and they told him that this is a "feature" built into the TV and that it can't be turned off. Some feature, huh? I wasted about 2 hours talking to Samsung (1-800-SAMSUNG) afterward to see if they would do anything about this, and of course they wouldn't do a thing unless the tech said the issue was non-repairable. Of course if it was non-repairable, they would also give me the same exact auto dimming set again.

Funny thing is that I replaced an Samsung HL-R5078W (DLP) with this set. That set was plagued with issues (light tunnel collapse that got Samsung a class action lawsuit, color wheel replacement, and ballast replacement). What did I do? I turned around and bought another Samsung. What was I thinking? NEVER AGAIN. I told them that on the phone today, not that they really cared all that much. So now I'm sitting here with two Samsung TVs with issues. My DLP just has a bad color wheel again, so I'll fork out the $100 for that. This 7000 is getting returned though.

Any recommendations of what to buy that is comparable to the 7000 Samsung model from a different manufacturer? I've had all I can take with Samsung. I'm done.

I should have read the forums before buying this set. I wonder how many people have said that? LOL

I will say that other then the dimming issue, the picture quality is the best I've ever seen (when not in PC mode of course, but I still see it some). The only issue is the dimming issue on whites, but unfortunately that nixes this set for me, since I use the PC mode more than anything else.

I think if enough people complain, maybe they would come out with a firmware update that would allow you to turn it off, but then again maybe they're trying to protect the screen, who knows.

These forums are great. Thanks to all who participate.

Yup, I went through the same hassle with pricing and waiting as long as I could to avoid issues...Paid $200 more than the lowest I would have but I got a D8000 so I am trying to tell myself on me getting a good deal

I'm still waiting for it to come in

About to take delivery of a 64D7000 in the next day or so. I got Amazon to match Paul's TV price of $2499 plus throw in the Megamind kit and Blu Ray player. At first they bulked on matching the price with the free accessories but after getting supervisor approval, I appeared to succeed....until today. I received an email from a "Dianne P" from Amazon. Here is her response:
"Hello,

Your recent TV Low Price Guarantee request has met our qualifications for a refund although the purchase of the free bundle has changed the amount of the refund.

After reviewing your request, I found that the purchase price of your Samsung PN64D7000 64-Inch 1080p 600Hz 3D Plasma HDTV (Black) at Amazon.com was only $2,747.79 due to the promotion you received valued at $237.78 for an order total of $2,985.57. For this reason, your price match guarantee refund may be less than you expected.

I'm issuing a refund in the amount of $247.80 to your original payment method. You'll see the refund on your next billing statement.

I hope this helps. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Best regards,

Dianne P.
Amazon.com"

Therefore, it appears they are not honoring their original agreement of throwing in the Blu-Ray player and Megamind kit. Time for a call. Those bastards

I see the Sony 55HX929 has come down to about $2600. I am REAL tempted in getting the Sony since the price is about the same.

Yeah I paid right at $2000 from buydig.com with the megamind 3d kit, shrek 1-3 and mail in for 4, a wall mount and a 6ft HDMI cable... best deal I could find.

Mine is a June 30th/Mexico build with the O ring fix already under the bezel... only problem so far is the brightness blips watching bluray movies but its not to bad, my girlfriend cant even tell but I can, probably from reading these forums and that being one of the issues I was looking for. But the picture is pretty much amazing. Just from factory settings I think the Relax picture setting is the best setting IMO.

Give them hell
I was all set to order a TV, just waiting for my billing cycle to end and BAM hey jack up the price I called multiple for them to match what they did for you and they kept saying no but some on the forum have had luck...just not me therefore I pulled the trigger on the 59D8000 from USAppliance which was better than the Amazon pricing
post #2360 of 4112
With the breakin slides, are you guys doing 100 hours straight or in intervals with breaks?

So excited, ordered the pn64d7000 through the samsung employee discount program, can't wait to have this beauty mounted on my wall.

I hate to tell you this Candler, but that's a feature in both Sammy and Panasonic. Floating blacks are the new reality. LG sets aren't even in the picture (pun). My Panny G25 was great, but had floating blacks and my new 7000 does it too.

I was told that it keeps the sets Energy Star compliant, don't understand how though. LEDs don't do it from what I hear, but they have well known issues too. I can live with it even though I see it when watching dark content. The positives of overall PQ outweigh the issue for me.

I decided not to take delivery on the PN64D7000 and instead get the Sony 55HX929. It is cheaper right now on Amazon and I already have a 46HX729 that has a super bright picture that I love.

I definitely feel your pain. I had a Samsung 56" DLP, and went through the light tunel issue as well. If you are going to use mainly a pc, then I would recommend using a Led/LCD TV, seems like a better match, but that is just my opinion.

Yes but you went from a 64' to a 55' and you think that's a deal? That's a questionable set of logic. If it were a Sony XBR yea, but a lesser model is no match to the 7000 plasma.

The 929 is a top line Sony LED model. If a super bright picture is what they want then they'll probably prefer the LCD picture anyways. Size wise I agree, but that's personal preference.

I agree about the 64 to 55 size difference. I temporarly have a Sony 46HX729 in my living room right now until the tv gets delivered. I have never had a 64 inch in the room as my original tv for the living room is a 60 inch XBR2. Therefore, the difference won't be as extreme. I love the bright picture of my 46HX729 and my room is extremely bright. I also don't want to worry about static logos and 4:3 bars as my kid's are always watching the tv and would never take into consideration of those issues.

The Sony is the XBR-55HX929 which is their top of the line fully backlight LED tv.
