64 INCH. What picture mode are you using and did you calibrate your set?

I'm using ChadB's and am liking it a lot. It seems a tad dark at times but I'm fine with that at least during the break-in period.

Hi guys, just got my 7000 a few days ago, and unfortunately, it's starting to peel. Does anyone know what build date they fixed this issue? Thanks for your help.

Just out of curiosity what is the build date of your TV. I'm sure others would like to know.

I have a May build and out of the box it peeled really bad. I pushed it up a couple of times and now after a month or so it stopped peeling and buzzing. Really weird. The peel is now not getting worse but still about a quarter inch. UsAppliance is coming next week to replace the set for a new one

It's a June 2011 build. When did Samsung start to fix this issue? Thanks.
I've had two July models with no peeling.
My June 2011 has no peeling after 2 months use.

For those who have had one that peels, does the peeling get worse over time? Right now, mine is in the upper right corner and is very slight as it doesn't affect the viewing area yet. Will this get worse over time? Can I expect it to spread over time? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Hi, I am hesitant to try a Samsung because of some bad reviews even for the top models (especially for lcd, but apparently plasma also). But I am still considering trying this model. However, I read one review claiming it ahs fluctuating brightness just as the Panasonics did. Is this true?

From the reports here it does spread. Best to get a tech out.

What reviews are you reading?

Regarding picture the D7/8 series is considered among the best (with Panny VT)

There are a few issues with brightness pop (I have never seen), peeling (I am getting a new one), and buzzing (mine was buzzing REALLY loud and just stopped one day)

A user review on the CNET site said "brightness fluctuation ruins this set". It was either for the 7000 or 8000 and the average review score was only 3 stars for a lot of sizes of one of these models (7000 or 8000).

Great, another tv which could have the buzzing and brightness issues. Sigh. I ahd just decided this is likely the tv for me too. Not sure what to do now.

As for peeling, I believe someone said it's always the 59+ inch ones. Is that true or not? I would doubt only bigger ones would do it. Also is it something peeling which is a health concern such as letting out gases? I would assume it's something attached to the outside of the glass peeling, but I haven't looked at the tv so I have to ask these thigns to be sure.

I'm curious... How does the peeling look?
Please anybody provide a pic if possible
By the way, stretching movies with bars above and below them or making them be gray kind of defeats the purpose of a plasma having deep blacks, so i certainly hope it's true what someone said on the previous page that watching one movie at a time with black bars won't cause IR. Otherwise I kind of think a plasma would be a wats eto even use. Especially for videophiles who claim tow ant everything the way it was intended. So you sure can't stretch a movie and then consider that ok if you're a videophile.

yeah my vision sucks so I hope I would even actually notice it when I get mine. Also how quickly does it begin happening after you start using the tv?
I watch letterbox movies all the time, never even seen a hint of IR. Watched two baseball games back to back with the score in the same spot and not even a trace of IR.
You have to really try hard these days to achieve IR.

Y'all have a better display than you think. Seeing as how the only difference between a PNXXD7000 and an 8000 is a couple of bells and whistles you might like to know that as of last night pro calibrator D-Nice chose the D8000 over the VT30 AND the new LCD Elite as best set at the Value Electronics shootout. It was something of a forfeit on the part of the other two displays as both have color decoder problems but so what? All the Samsung lacks is a little deeper black level. It's a great TV.

Imagine window tint peeling off a car window
There is a thread dedicated to the peeling with a few pictures but here is mine...the 2 bubbles have vanished but the top piece is still there no matter how many times I push it up. Also note the peel was about 8" wide and 2" tall but I pushed it up and it improved (you can see the oil from my fingers as an indication)

also this is my buzzing that just stopped buzzing one day

Very true. I'm completely happy with this set after calibration.

I also concur it's real hard to create an IR issue with this set. They hold up well.

Hey Larry on your peeling issue...
Is a Samsung rep going to fix that? Or are people with peeling issues just stuck with no fix?
Thanks

Samsung is fixing them for people but I opted to call USAppliance and ask for a new one since I was within my 30 day trial period and I am hoping to get an August build which is when the fix is supposedly in place for production units.

The warranty fix is having a tech come out with a new panel and installing tiny spacers between the bezel and new panel.

Hi Guys, I've had my 64d7000 for 6 months and can't be happier. No buzz or

peeling . This is my first plasma and was wondering about the heat that it

emits. With a laser thermometer i'm getting from 105f to 130f across the

front of the screen. It'll be great come winter but it really does heat up my

place. Has anyone else noticed the heat increase and is it normal ?

That fix is not used any more. They now replace the complete panel with its associated chassis frame and scan boards. The new panel/chassis is designed so the bezel does not touch the panel.

The replacement panels have a different bonded-on filter which is not quite as good as the original design.

Getting a new panel is as simple as submitting a claim on the Samsung web site. It took three weeks from the time I submitted a claim to when the panel was replaced. Samsung responded to my claim the morning after I submitted the claim and a local authorized tech called me later that day. The delay for the replacement only was because of a slight back-order problem with the panels. The tech called me every two or three days to keep me up to date.

I finally got the 51" up on the wall and have been running the break-in slides on it.

But it has some bad pixels: 3 blue, 2.5 green, 0.5 red. (By 0.5, I mean one that seems to be half the intensity or smaller than the others.) One of the bad blue and green subpixels are in the same pixel. All are within a few inches of the border (none in the center of the screen).

Is this par for the course, or is this an unusually high number?

You must have a different panel than I do. After 30 minutes running an Audyssey calibration on my receiver, there was clear IR where the Audyssey menu had been.

On the plus side, it disappeared after a few minutes of scrolling and slides.

IMO I think these days when one talks about IR they are talking about IR that they either cant remove or takes more than a few minutes to get rid of. Thats just MOHO though.

Nice to hear they fix the peeling.

How often do people get the buzzing?

Buzzing and fluctuating brightness are what scared me from buying one. And even though some claim nott o have the latter issue, many say not only is it there, but it makes the set totally unwatchable. So no clue how some can say even if it has the fbr it's a greats et. If it's unwatchable it can't be a good set. lol

I hope to buy this soon. never tried a plasma though and here we have these two major issues and then I also don't like the IR possibility, heat, and bad lookign whites which most to all plasmas have.
The IR is alive and well and I think I got burn in

after 3 weeks now the Madden 12 score banner on the top left which is long has not gone away.

It is clearly visible in bright scenes.

I ran the orbiter for a long time and even used the break in sliders and still there

I broken in the set for the first one hundred hours with the slides and do not run to bright a picture when gaming.

But the burn in is there.

It has gone away a bit since then but it is still there and I think I am screwed because it should have been gone by now.

I am at a lost for words on how upset I am
