I would pull the trigger on the pn64 but this buzzing problem and the fluctuating brightness makes me nervous Thanks everyone for your updates.

So what settings has everyone settled on? I'm color blind so missing with that stuff really doesnt work for my wife. She's like what the HELL have you done to the TV! Any help would be great!

The issue I have is that the buzz is not consistent, so it could be not present or not noticeable at volume, then a quiet scene hits and the buzz spikes. There's no way you could miss it, you'd have to be deaf.

Anyway I'm bummed. Watched a bunch of 1080p content this weekend that looked absolutely amazing, but this TV has to go back. I'd get a replacement but there's no guarantee that the buzzing won't be there, and I don't want to play the tv lottery, especially with an online retailer. I guess I'm going to get a LCD that I know is buzz free, but I haven't seen any models that really do it for me. Oh well!
That's definitively bad news. I may be following you to the enemy camp, too.

Great info and posts so far everyone this is one of my firsts posts here on AVS... Recently I was offered by samsung a D7000 as a replacement for another samsung plasma I recently purchased that had a agitating buzz emitting from the set, I believe it was a d680 plasma. I received the D7000 on Saturday and wow was I impressed! I did some minor breaking w slides and watched a few blu rays and have to say I'm quite impressed by the picture compared to the replaced unit and my old Sammy LCD. Here are some of my random thoughts on the set

Design is beautiful and set is not black but a really dark grey, I preferred the claw stand over this but I'm warming up to this one.

Picture is great watched tron legacy blu ray and was blown away picture quality is excellent.

Haven't tried 3D yet waiting on price drop on glasses.

Apps are very slow over wi fi but the YouTube and NBA tv app are some of the standouts

Samsung iPhone remote app works very well with this set as qwerty remote

Syncing to my desktop was easy and simple using Vuse and ps3 media server

Blacks are very deep again picture is excellent

The set is extremely thin and screen is an inch bigger as a result of the new design

The only negative so far is after trying the 360 today I received some serious IR after only ten minutes of sitting in the matchmaking menu, I'm still experiencing the effects a few hours later which kind of concerns me. My setting are far from torch mode and are the polar opposites cell light level has Been on 5 and everything was lowered from standard setting and no higher except for the Tron blu ray. Pixel shift is on as well.

If anyone has any questions feel free send them this way

I think that it is a problem with Vudu not up to date with the 2011 Samsung plasmas, but I could be wrong.

Yes, it is everybody's networks then. No good on mine. Cinema Now and Netflix worked fine.

I have the 51". I put on two movies last night that gave my 2010 Panasonic fits -- The Matrix and Half-Blood Prince -- and I didn't notice that quirk, nor the floating blacks. Buzz is less, too. FWIW, I did see the brightness changes on the 550. Same size.

how good is the 2d to 3d conversion for sports? i would guess it is not as good as watching if it was broadcast in 3D?

I've been noticing a lot of IR as well, mostly from the 360 and my XBMC setup. Usually I'll notice it when I pause a letterboxed movie in XBMC, which causes the "pause" menu in my XBMC skin to show up in the lower black bar, and then I got IR where the pause menu was for 5-10 mins. It's not too distracting IMHO, I have to really look for it to notice it.

At any rate, whatever IR I've noticed has never been a real distraction and always resolved itself after a while. Of course, I've only had this set about 10 days.

I am about to return my D7000 due to an annoying buzz. Samsung sent a tech to look at my set, and he said it was within spec. I am just curious -- how did they decide that your previous plasma was buzzing enough to warrant a replacement? Also, do you notice any buzz from the D7000? What's your seating arrangement like?

The picture quality on this set is through the roof, and I really prefer it over LCDs. I'd love to figure out how to work out this buzzing issue. Maybe I should play the panel lottery after all.

Thanks!

I have the 51d7000 and there is zero buzz so I beleive this has to do with some individual units. I am thankful I didn't get one that buzzes but I WOULD NOT accept Samsung telling me its within specs. Send it back to the store immediately!

mirage00 did you notice some fluctuating brightness in your D7000 ?

I noticed last night that my set leans back. My level says the base is fine (as well as my Sanus TV stand), so I re-seated the guide stand (mount/pedestal), but it remains the same. I can nudge the TV forward to where it needs to be, but it doesn't stay that way when I stop.

Not sure of ways to manipulate it to achieve a better result -- other than placing, say, furniture pads under the rear feet of the base. Other than that, I am happy with it.

There are many different shades of green preview screens, and they do not all show the same amount of line bleed. Unless everyone is using the exact same green preview screen, the comparisons are close to meaningless.

Speaking of f/w, 1007 is available for download through the TV menu. I can't find any release notes at samsung.com. Fortunately, picture settings did not revert to factory defaults. VUDU still gives "invalid_eval" -- I still suspect it's an issue with their servers authenticating some of the newer models.

I wonder if anyone with the 'fluctuating brightness' problems can see if this f/w upgrade fixes things?

Hi,
I'm writing for an specific topic. There have been a lot of comments about shifting or fluctuation int he brightness of the set, or changes in the blacks that happen automatic while watching different contents and sources.

Some members have asked if the Eco Sensor is off, but except for one or two, most people don't say.

So, my question for this symptoms are:
1. Is the Eco Sensor off?
2. Is the Dynamic Contrast off (if your mode is on Standard)?

This are the only two options that will automatically change the contrast and brightness is the TV, and, they are ON by default (by law).

(Even tough i have read this forum for a while, i never post (mostly i do research)) Thanks in advanced !!!

When I've noticed it, I have had both of those options turned off.

Ok sorry to hear that but I'm glad to know it's not only in my experience, yes you do have to really stare to notice it but I am an audio video engineer so certain things in visuals and sounds distract me easily. Luckily mine has also faded away for the most part and I have to admit I did not notice any IR until yesterday and I have had the set since saturday. I was pretty shocked when I noticed it. Thanks for the feedback

Ok well I have to say my experience with samsung was pretty terrible overall replacing the original unit, it took over a month but the result was well worth it. Originally a tech was scheduled to come out to look at it in early march after just receiving the unit. I made arrangements to be home never showed or called. When I contacted them they said they needed to reschedule so they can order a replacement panel for the buzzing D680. Two days before they are suppose to come I get a call saying the part is in and confirm for Friday appointment. Well Friday I get a call saying they didn't get the part and were going to go ahead and start the process of a replacement unit. They offered me the D7000 and 34 days later I finally have a working set. With all that said this set is extremely quiet and let me emphasize that EXTREMELY QUIET couldn't be happier in that regard , almost forgot about the buzz issue I have been in awe of this sets performance. If you have a buzz that is not normal and don't let them tell you different! I physically have to put my ear an inch from the back of the set to hear any sort of buzz. Hope this helps good luck and feel free to ask anything else.

Thumbs up to this post couldn't agree more

Also I have noticed the dimming I failed to mention that being so concerned with my IR problem, i really noticed it watching espn last night. And for the person who asked I own the 51 inch model.

I got a message to update my firmware from 1003 to 1007 this morning, and after selecting "Update Now" the TV has been in an infinite power cycle loop where it goes black, shows the "Samsung Smart TV" logo, and repeats continuously.

I called Samsung support, and they had me reset the TV, which was comprised of leaving it unplugged for 30 seconds and did absolutely nothing.

Has anyone else run into this problem? Apparently it requires that a technician come out to my apartment... and who knows how long that'll be.

Uh oh now that sounds like a issue, thanks for the heads up and be sure to get on them about that replacement in my case it took over 30 days!

I think various D- and C-series owners are posting here, so let's be sure to include model # and also screen size.

On my 59D7000, all eco / motion lighting / dyn contrast settings are disabled. I'm using the MOVIE preset (I posted my settings a few pages back). I can *only* notice the effect if I focus close-up on letterbox bars and not at all on full-screen material. PQ is still fantastic. I've also enabled GAME mode to disable extraneous video processing and there is no change in behavior. Brightness / cell light / film mode also do not modulate the effect.

The response is a direct and instantaneous function of the APL of the frame (no time delay). Based on anecdotal reports, the fluctuations on the D5x0 series are more apparent than on the step-up models. I'm curious if the effect is more or less pronounced on the 51" panel, as the MLL "floor" is likely raised to begin with.

Wow, sorry to hear that. I had no issue with the upgrade. Try a factory reset (hold EXIT button down for 15 sec).

I had a 64D7000 delivered defective/ damaged, as well last week. I have a chance at the replacement this week. I say this, because I too bought from Amazon. I was planning on going with CP in OH, but they didn't get the 7000 in until a few weeks after Amazon. If I have to refuse this one, I'm getting my money back and calling Chris. It bothers me that 2 people buying the same exact SKU from the same retailer on something this new collectively total 3 bad TV's that fast. Maybe it has something to do with whom Amazon uses for delivery? Damage happens, but 3 64D7000's from one seller that close together. Uh-oh!
