Random one...

Got the 59" from frys last week when it was on sale for 1299. Much to my surprise, all of the cnet presets were in place...very odd considering it seems way too random for samsung to pre-load these setttings.

Thentv seemed very much brand new when i opened it, but now wondering if they sold me an open box.

How do you check the hours?

Also curious if there is any web page that stores old firmware. I went from 1004 to 1019 today. Have run 1019 to the old and hasn´t noticed anything bad about it.

My PS51 is also tilted back. Optimum for my sofa placement though as advertized viewing angles don´t seem all that critical.

As for going into service panel info menu mute power within 3 seconds if I don´t recall incorrectly. Use power button to close it. It will reset your settings. Had 140h on my new already. I don´t know if that is even possible but maybe they are test run a bit before

Reset the settings to default and see if they change to non-CNET values

But in this case they appear to be under the glass or filter and can't be removed. You need to look at the screen from various angles to spot them all. Is this normal or was my panel contaminated by dust during manufacturing?

I noticed that on mine, or so I think. (due to it's changing visibility). Though I am keeping mine and not playing screen roulette; fear of going into the fire from the frying pan. Mine's silent; not a peeler; amazing color, clarity and sharpness; it reacted beautifully to a blu-ray calibration disk. When the TV arrived, the base had a tiny but obvious dent and I still kept the TV due to the other good stuff. (Samsung at my request sent me a free replacement base) ... so that issue is no more.

That button sequence is for European models -- including your Scandinavian D7005. The sequence for the North American Samsungs is different.

+2. My first set updated through wifi right out of the box to 0014, both my replacements since were on 0013 and say that no update is available. I'm wondering if it might help because my latest set is going into the screen saver while watching cable and blu-rays.

My 1st one updated to 1014 as well now that I remember. Strange.

Pioneer made the famously stupid decision to only allow fine picture adjustments on the Elite Kuros in the final year of that plasma TV line. People were understandably angry that the $3-4k regular Kuros had no adjustments and you had to spring for $6-8k Elites to adjust the picture. I mean, really Pioneer? You expected people to spend $3-4k on a TV and not be able to adjust and calibrate the picture? Nobody bought Kuros that final year, Pioneer lost a lot of money, and they abandoned the line and left the HDTV market entirely rather that do the obvious and bring back picture adjustments the following year. It would have been hilarious if it wasn't so sad that Kuros were gone.

Sounds like an open-box situation, if not a returned set. I assume, then, that when you turned it on for the first time, it didn't start in the guided setup mode (where it asks for tv and network settings)? If so, that's strange, because it's very easy to factory reset these TVs so you would have no idea if it had been used previously.

This happened with my original one as well it updated right out of the box to 1014, the replacement I just got last Friday wouldn't online update from 1011 to 1013 so I downloaded it and did it via usb. It also won't find the 1014 update either. So weird?
No suprise, really.

It wouldn't be the first time Samsung has issued and subsequently removed a firmware revision with no explanation (although it seemed to just be Samsung Europe). 1014 for the D7000 was never available as a normal download, only via automatic updating.
I just ran auto-update on my D7000 and it installed 1015. That was a surprise.
Well, many of the LED LCD's and the D8000 plasma have the newer SW with RVU capabilities with Directv. Id hope the D7000 will see that 1024 FW update soon.
Can anyone confirm that large TV's are in fact covered under the extended holiday returns period at Amazon (until January 31st, 2012)?

Not yet -- too busy inspecting the new 59 (replacement) for issues.

Get this -- July build with waaaay less buzzing than the October builds I had. I wouldn't call it normal plasma buzz because it's so focused and high-pitched, but it's definitely tolerable. Granted, it's early, but I was stoked. Until ...

After running slides for about 20 minutes, I noticed that there were about five columns of dead pixels down the left side. Blargh. I power-cycled the TV and the pixels were back. When I restarted the slides, the columns of pixels started to drop out again from the left edge. I'm going to leave it running for a while to see what happens.

Shoot me in the face please.

Oh thats weird because I got a replacement and it was a July build and the buzzing is not as bad as an September build I had before. Lucky for me I haven't had any issues yet (fingers crossed)

I took some pictures of it. They are all over the screen. I didn't count them exactly but there could easily be 20 or more of them. After reading the thread where someone claims spontaneous cracking of these screens, I'm kind of worried if they aren't some kind of internal micro-crack or fracture inside the glass. They show up in the exact same place on either red, green, or blue slides. I guess they could be dead pixels but they are only visible from certain angles when standing next to the screen. You would think a dead pixel would be visible no matter what (at least they were on my other TV's). I'm hoping it's just dust trapped under the filter.

Anyone else see this sort of thing on their PN64D7000?

If you are talking about the round items, and they look like that with the naked eye, Id call Samsung or return it for another.
He's just circled them, the defects are small - close to pixel size. It's hard to tell what they are in the pictures, but it doesn't sound like a dead pixel from what you describe. Dead/stuck pixels are very clearly visible from any angle. I haven't seen anything like this on my 59D7000.

If this is something that is visibly affecting the image from your seating area, then Samsung might fix it. If not, I wouldn't worry about it.
Haha, I did not enlarge them. Looks like the pixel is darker than the rest. Maybe give it some time?

looks like dust traped under the outer glass. I had this on my first panny VT30, but only about 4 spots. I could not see beyond 4 feet. Look at the each exact spot with a flashlight and the tv off and you will see it. Should not be a concern if not visible from regular viewing distance.
Just installed 1015. Have to check it out.
Any ideas what the new 1015 firmware does?

I have a D6900 and also installed the 1015 via the tv. I'm guessing its the same thing as for the D7000. There was never a 1014 availalbe for the D6900 even via the TV. I called Samsung Canada and they were not able to tell me anything about this 1015.

Latest firmware on the website is 1013.1.

Thanks Brian. You were right and I'm an idiot. I don't remember this feature being on by default on previous sets/firmwares.

My fingers are crossed that this set is a keeper.

Anyone? Of course why would Samsung have any info on their own website...
