Honestly this is my first plasma set.

Vanla,

I bought my 64D7000 in mid-May 2011 so it's been eight months.

I find the TV just fine. Some are bothered by brightness pops but this phenomenon appears to be most obvious when Cell, Contrast, Brightness, and Gamma are set high. Since I prefer a relatively dim (realistic ) picture, I rarely see the pops -- and I mean almost never.

For those technically minded, my definition of dim is a peak white output level of about 27 to 29 ftL.

Thanks Larry. I agreed with you regarding the poping. I see rare occurances of these pops as my contrast, brightness, and gamma are set accordingly.

I have had this plasma for a month and it looks good regarding pic quality. I was used to LCD, so adjusting to motion interoploation of the plasma i.e from fake to realistic.

Hi All:
I stated a few weeks back that the d7000 will have a 1023 firmware update. Well as Larry correctly stated, d8000 had the 1023 fw and 1014 for d7000.

This is not true, I had a follow up call with my calibrator who told me that the Samsung PM provided me with wrong information. The 1014 was suppose to address brightness pops. When I stated to my calibrator that this was not the case, he came down to verify. Upon verificaiton, we had a chat with the Samsung PM. There really is no encouraging information that he passed onto us other than he was not sure what was going on and it should have been fixed. I suspect he did not really want to divelage the truth.

So in my calibrator's opinion, he feels that the pops may not completely go away as Samsung put it there on purpose due to the Energy star mandate.
Ironcially through the grapewine, we heard that turning off all eco-settings does not actually turn off the brightness controls but puts it on low. There could be an option in the service menu to do so but the risk is too great.

As others in the forum have indicated, a good calibration should temporarily resolve the pops or keep them minimal.

I apologize for the mis-information.

New firmware update just came online for the D7000 vers 001015
No clue what it does, what's it for. But I updated my 51D7000 and so far all good.
Nothing on the Samsung website since they are still on 1013.
I wish they would get it together and give us proper update info.
I also hope they continue to update and improve the PN-D7000

1015 doesn't address the pops. I think it just added Swipe It to the Smart Hub.

That's kinda lame, I haven't seen any pops with my set, but they need to get it together !

Mine updated fine from 1013 to 1015 last night and it still has fluctuations.

Just got the set two weeks ago, and although I am very pleased with the PQ, I am experiencing the buzzing issues and some brightness flicker.

Is there anyone who has owned this set for awhile and noticed the buzzing diminish with time? I'm hesitant to call Amazon for a replacement.
On my set the buzzing is there, but not very loud. You have to stand in the center of the tv to hear it. My tv is currently walk mounted... From the sofa you can't hear it.
But again the buzzing is not loud. It's noticeable only from like 5 ft away dead center

I've owned the set for probably 700 hours of time now, and the buzzing is still as loud as the first time I've turned on my television. About 500 hours into the set, I put ferrite cores on my AC cord, bought a $700 power conditioner, and tilted my TV downward slightly. Only the last of those three things actually helped anything.

$700 power conditioner?

Adjust the height of the TV would also help since the sound is very directional and will no longer be at ear level.

and the power conditioner salesman sends his thank you for helping out with the boat payment for this month

I got it for $200. I'm just saying how expensive the actual conditioner is. I'm using every outlet in it.

I've spent money on worse.

I'm at the only height it can be at, really. You'd have to see my setup to understand.

When you tilted your screen that would possibly change the acoustics. It's good luck that it reduced the buzz that you are hearing.
I use the same method. Tilting the screen is the only way I can reduce the noise. The directional nature of the noise is kind of an advantage in this case - sending it towards my couch and carpeted floor (rather than at my head) is certainly preferrable, and provides some significant acoustic dampening.

I spoke with Samsung via live chat and they are sending me the fix on 2 usb drives just like others have said. Hopefully it fixes it or at least makes it less frequent.
I tried chat. All they did was ask me to reset my tv.

Anybody know about the directv hd guide update?
Do I need serial number and to register tv to talk to a rep? And also get live chat help?
Where can I find serial number?

My 2 dvr hr22-100 and hr20-100 both got the update and it improved in speed scrolling thru the guide. I love the new update. before the update changing channels and scrolling thru the guide was horrible.

I do understand....but in the interest of scientific quest, humor me and raise or lower the TV height by 6 inches and see if that makes any difference.

at a distance of 12' or more, the viewing angle would not be that different.

Hey anybody with this update on USB...
That fixes the brightness pops...
Can you guys upload it somewhere do we can all get it?

I raised mine 8 inches and you cannot hear the buzz unless you are standing directly in front of the TV with the volume really low or muted... seems to me if I tilted it down I would hear the buzzing while sitting... I have a flat wall mount.. raised it 8 inches because that is how tall my center speaker is... 8 inches eliminated the buzz.

Raising the TV will redirect the buzz

In my case, that's just not possible given the way my living room is set up. It's such a shame and bizarre phenomenon.

I'd put $20 on the idea that the people who can't hear the buzz have their tvs up high or angled in such a way the sound is not directed straight towards them.

I still don't know what to do. I have until January 30th to return the set.

I just took advice from here and did the live chat and got them to send me the USB update. I already updated to 0015. It doesn't fix the pops. Katzemier on CNet said a rep from Samsung spoke of the fix while at CES this week. If it works, the TV will be perfect!

Yes you will need the serial number. It's on the back left of the tv when facing the back. White sticker. Your build date is on there as well. It's also on the box it came in but missing the letter on the end. My letter was "E".

I've had the set for a little over a month now, and what I'm noticing is that on occasion, it seems like the brightness of the entire screen dims down and produces a more vivid picture (less washed out). Is this what you are all calling the brightness pops? or the floating blacks?? It's most noticible to me when watching a movie with horizontal black bars. It's doesn't really bother me too much as I still find the picture quality to be very good, but I'm trying to determine if I do have either of these issues that have been noted in this thread.

Looks nice. Mines on the wall with RF82 II's and a RC62 II.

Please keep us updated. Maybe one of you can copy the stick contents for a small price and mail it to me
