Is there any difference between PN64D7000FFXZA and PN64D7000FF?

Is that just the firmware?
One is the "Model Code" the other is just the "Model". The "Type No." would be PN647000

Anyone have any thoughts on how uniform the screen should be? It's hard to see in this picture, but there is some horizontal banding on bright screens that is annoying during camera shifts. Yes, I am nitpicking but I thought uniformity was one of plasma's strengths. The most annoying "band" is the one about 30-40% down from the top of the screen.

Check the attached picture

I do see that. It's probably the luck of the draw. Don't pause your TV and watch a grey screen then. Sorry.

Saw it originally on normal content, but took the above pic on break-in slides. Is this fairly normal or should I be concerned?

I have been to two different Best Buys to see this tv, and have not really heard anything. Now granted, Best Buy is not too quiet, but I have put my head right up to the tv's in the store and really can't hear buzzing.

The 59D7000 will be only for tv viewing with Directv, and on occasion using a smaller size, though very good quality Polk 5.1 system with it. But mostly, I'll use the built in tv speakers ( girlfriend factor as she dislikes louder, better sounding Polks ) Also, we'll be sitting directly in front of the tv and about 10' away.

So, after all this, my question is how loud on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the highest is the buzzing ? And with the volume on is it really that noticeable ? Thanks in advance.

I purchased and setup a couple of days ago. No buzzing at all or brightness pops. Very happy at the moment although I will admit its still early. Got a good price, two pairs of glasses, DVD player and $100 gift card from Best Buy.

ETA: Tried again, took about 18 minutes and I have two USB sticks on the way; 5 to 9 business days. Juanita G was much better than the first person.

Just a quick question as I have not had the time to keep up and read every posting in this thread. The USB sticks are for the brightness pops, correct ? And you call Samsung at 1-800-SAMSUNG (1-800-726-7864) ?

My 59D7000 is scheduled to be delivered this friday, and I'd at least try and order the two USB sticks and get a head start on Samsung mailing them.

Thanks in advance.

According to the most recent post in the FBr Fix thread, no more sticks are being sent out as it doesn't work on the latest firmware updates. The method listed in the thread, first post, is reported to wrok, but the sticks are supposedly not being sent out, anymore. Check that thread.

I have something similar forming on my panasonic. So far I think it is some form of IR/burnin, maybe due to my cable guide. I locate my bar right at one of the horizontal lines in the guide.

Also I'm curious about those pink patches. Is that a camera artifact or something you see with your eye. I am having an issue with green and pink patches on my panasonic and was thinking of getting this samsung.

I’ve searched this thread AND the forum and have not found a definitive answer to the question about the compatibility of the qwerty remote with the 7000 series plasmas... I recently got an open box PN64D7000 from Best Buy (for a steal) and received the qwerty remote. The standard remote side works fine but I’ve gotten no response from the qwerty side. Am I doing something wrong?

I have only owned the LED version of the 60" 7000 series so I can't be certain that things are the same. With that said though, I had a heck of time pairing the remote with the TV. You have to be within a foot of the TV when you do it and it took quite a few tries to do it.

I guess I haven't found the pairing procedure in the menu... Any insight?

turn on tv, hold tab + sym on keypad side (like the sticker states) buttons down for 7 seconds, if that doesn't work on the reg. remote side press mute, 0, mute , 0 that will clear remote out, then hold down "<--" and "@" buttons to start new pairing with smart tv, NOW hold tab + sym for 7 seconds BUT keep the remote 1 inch from the samsung logo on the TV set. YES this worked for me when I called samsung tech line 1800-726-7864.

Quote:
make sure ON THE "REGULAR TV REMOTE SIDE"- MUTE, 0 (ZERO), MUTE, O (ZERO) CLEAR TV PAIR CODE OUT AND THEN HOLD "<---" (BACKSPACE) & @ ("AT" ICON) FOR 5 SECONDS TO CLEAR OUT SMART REMOTE, THEN TRY TO PAIR REMOTE 3 INCHES FROM THE SAMSUNG LOGO ON THE TV HOLD "SYM" + "TAB" FOR 4 SECONDS, NOW IT SHOULD READ PAIRED, IF NOT CALL SAMSUNG TECH SUPPORT 1-800-726-7864

All you need to do is download the 1014.6 firmware linked in zoyd's first post. Should install no problem for you, even new TVs will not have the latest firmware installed (meaning you won't need to roll back). If it fails to upgrade the logic board (no "Optimization" screen), you can still use zoyd's method.

Do let Samsung know you see FBR though and request the USB fix.

Not sure that's correct. They are not sending sticks to the people who have already updated to 1015 firmware for the D7000. That's bacuse there is no rollback being offered, which is required to install 1014.6 over version 1015. If you have a lower version, I think they will still send you the upgrade stick.

If you buy a new D7000, you will most likely have 1013 or lower firmware. If you are concerned about pops, and don't feel like performing the manual logic update, DO NOT UPGRADE THE FIRMWARE. Instead, use 1014.6 which is posted in zoyd's FBr thread.

I'm going to say those are camera artifacts, as I don't recall seeing the splotches with my eye. Let me double check when I get home and I will let you know. There may be some reflection going on there as well.

I also want to see if the cable guide is causing burn-in. I barely ever have that thing up there but it is an interesting point!

Didn't see anyone answer this, but I spoke with the techs at Monoprice and they believe the 63" version will work. Samsungs use a 400x600 VESA layout which should be covered by that mount. It all has to do with where the mounting points are on the back of the TV.

My 64PND7000 is coming in tomorrow so I can let you know for sure late tomorrow (or potentially next week depending on how sucked in I get).

Mount pattern and weight capacity are the things to worry about. Screen size ranges just get you in the ballpark... if you look up the overall size and weight of a 63" Samsung plasma from just a few years ago you will see that it is bigger and heavier than your new 64".

The only other aspect that occasionally can be an issue is if the mount physically blocks some connection (power, AV, RF, etc) on the back of the set. Doesn't happen very often.

Thanks Jason! My set is being delivered tomorrow as well. I did order a mount from Monoprice and some extra long HDMI cables, but probably won't get them till Monday. Not planning on hanging it till I make sure I'm happy with the PQ anyway. I'm sure I'll have more questions tomorrow evening...

My advice is to sell the blu ray player on eBay or something and use the money to buy a Sony or Panasonic - it's really not a very good player.

I need help
Got home and my tv won't show a picture.
I hear it on, but no picture.
If this thing is done for...
I will have to reconsider Samsung.
First they never delivered on USB drives... Now the tv wont show a pic???
Bad manufacturing if that is the case.

I agree 100 %. The free Samsung blu ray player, usually the Samsung BD-D5500 is not very good. For a relatively inexpensive player that gets great reviews, get the Panasonic DMP-BDT210.

Or if you want the best, and are willing to pay more ( $500.00 ish ) get the Oppo BDP-93. I have the Panny mentioned above, and it's a very good player. I also have the Oppo BDP-83 and it's terrific. You can't go wrong with either.

I can think of several things to try. If you are using a cable or satellite box, unplug it for a minute. Then plug back in, wait for it to reboot. Also, try the same with the tv.

Also, maybe someone had used the tv beforehand, and played with the settings on the tv or cable/satellite box. Are you using just an HDMI cable for audio and video, or seperate cables for audio and video ? Are the cables plugged in all the way ?

If you list the components you have and how they are connected, you'll have a better chance to get help.

Folks - price and where-to-buy discussion belongs in the plasma deals forum. Threads in this forum are for technical discussion. Thanks.

Only 2 things are connected to tv.
Ps3 and directv receiver. Both are connected via hdmi
I'll check connection on both devices.

I'm on my third TV now with the PN59D7000 after returning a LG 60PV250 and a Samsung LED UN60D7000. The lg was just bad with no brightness at all and a gray "haze" over everything. The LED D7000 had looked great with some content but was completely washed out with other content. Only turning on dynamic contrast would fix the "bad" content but conversely would make colors bleed with the "good" content. And yes, I played with it for many many hours with different calibration settings. So now here I am with the Plasma D7000...

It's definitely better than the other two in terms of picture quality. I've calibrated it with AVSHD and by using some of the posted settings I've found, and the picture quality is definitely much more uniform over various inputs and different channels. I just wish the TV was like 10% brighter . The cell light setting from 16 through 20 doesn't do anything at all. I have an older Sony 52" LCD and it has such a bright good looking picture. Wish I could buy that model with 8 more inches of screen real estate :P. Anyways, I'm giving it a whirl to see if it grows on me since the picture is really that good.

edit: Oh and it buzzes like people have reported . It's not so bad that I hear it all the time, but I definitely hear it when things get quiet.
I can hear sound from the tv.
For example when I turn on the ps3 I hear the start up sound, but no pic.

I assume you've tried unplugging it for a couple hours, and trying again?

When you first turn the TV on, does it start up normally? When you press power, the red led should blink a couple times, then the samsung splash screen should be displayed briefly (if you haven't disabled it) before it switches to your source.

Anyway, definitely doesn't sound like a common problem and Samsung will send someone to look at it under warranty. Hopefully a service call can resolve it, but you could be out of commission for a week or so if they need to order parts.
Thanks for the support fellas.
And yes hiker I unplugged it yesterday all night and went to tried to see if it was fixed this morning.
No luck
I turn it on and the light blinks, but no picture.
Sucks
Glad I'm in warranty.
