I would like to know what those amps are rated at into 4ohms.
About 360 wrms into 4 ohms.
I sure would appreciate everyone slowing down a bit. Many of you are possibly only half right. I am in the process of getting some additional information, and know that many of the vocal tracks were not perfect recordings. This was intentionally done by Nuance and myself. Why? Well, we all know that MOST recordings suck on some level. I don't want a speaker that over exposes these issues so that I don't enjoy listening to 80% of the stuff out there. I need a certain level of perfection for great recordings, but the speakers/system needs to work for lesser recordings as well; even some poor ones.
My left amp has an issue. I wanted a chance to discuss this with Klaus at Odyssey Audio prior to all of the speculation about reduced power. Does the left amp sound different than the right one? NO! Have I EVER experience distortion from clipping before this? NO! In fact, the only issues I can detect from the amp are that it is 1.7db quieter than the other one, and because the transistor (or whatever it is) is biased much hotter than the others to balance the positive and negative in that amp. This causes that amp to trip its thermal overload when it has its highest demands put on it. This means basically one or two tracks that I know of, and volumes that I don't like at all. I have discussed all of this in the past with Klaus. It could be that the amp is putting out ALL of the power it can, and all of this really means little to nothing regarding its issue. I would have thought that if the amp was so over driven, it would have thermally tripped out. It did not.
I do understand that the amps clearly appear to be under powered for the SoundScape 10's. I can't imagine that was the issue with other speakers, but I could be wrong.
I will continue to share information until this thread gets out of control. At that time, I will stop and none of you will know the whole truth. There are a tremendous amount of variables at work here. Let's just keep the discussions civil so we can all learn something.
I intend to post my thoughts of the GTG tonight. I sure don't want to, but I will. It will not be what most will expect. And for the record, I too believe I could pick out nearly every speaker blind. And please understand that I have heard the exact pairs of HT2-TL's, SongTower RT's, Ascend Towers, and Philharmonic 2's in at least 2 or 3 rooms. My opinions of each speaker in said rooms remains very consistent even though the speakers performed very differently in each room.
More to come soon...
