SE WI Tower speaker GTG - Page 17

I don't want to intrude and am fine with giving up my spot to someone else. I also have to be able to get off from work so feel free to give my spot to others. Not a big deal to me.

Either date would work for me.

We still have spots open guys, no worries.

I think it came about because the amorphous core transformers have a cult following in the tube world. I agree that there's no difference in the sound between the two.

Hey guys. Just came across this thread a week ago and it looks like this will be an amazing time. It will be great to meet you guys and share in the experience of some amazing speakers.

Interesting point. No wonder I couldn't hear any difference.

I should be happier about what happened yesterday.

I found out that there was some room for me to join the GTG, then about two hours later I get a call and a free trip to Phoenix, AZ for me and my family. Life is good, right? Well, the trip is 4/12 - 4/17, so I was hoping the GTG was going to be on 3/31. I checked here this morning and I see that I won't be able to make it.

I was really looking forward to meeting you guys and listening to some great speakers too. Please remove me from the list, but keep me in mind if you have another one of these in the future. I'll keep watching this thread, as it seems like there are a good group of guys here and I look forward to hearing your thoughts about 4/14.

One thing is for certain. You may have been disappointed attending the last GTG, but I can't see how that could possibly happen this time.

So--I checked out the official web site for Manitowoc. Your mayor looks like he hit puberty about 20 minutes ago. Are the streets safe? Do you have a fire department in case we short the joint out? Do we out-of-towners fly into Milwaukee?

Although it would be fun to meet everyone, I do not plan to attend. If I have a spare center or two in stock, I would be happy to send them out. Right now, every ribbon tweeter we have left in stock is spoken for and while I am hoping we receive our next batch soon, I have not heard from Aleksandar yet so I honestly don't know.

If you like, I would be happy to send you a suite of measurements over the next few weeks that should give you a fairly good idea if our STC would be a good match with your speakers.

Mayor Nickels may be young, but he is a very impressive young man. Certainly far better than any previous mayor well into their pubic years. The streets are very safe here, so no worries there.

I don't want to scare anyone, but I do live just outside the city. This means I am not protected by the city police, nor the fire department. We'll have to rely on the county police and the Newton fire department volunteers. If there is a fire, I'm sure it'll be fine...

The place to fly into would be Milwaukee, or even Green Bay if you can find a deal.

Hopefully TJHUB posts his room pics and front end specs to give you all an idea of what will be driving all of these speakers. We will not be trying out amps, cables and the like, so this system will remain static.

Also, for those interested in the status of Vapor Audio, the owner has not yet responded to my PM. I will attempt an email and perhaps post in his dedicated thread.

Edit: An email has bent sent to Vapor Audio and I also posted in one of their threads.

Dennis - about the only think you would need to worry about coming to Wisc is leaving with mad cow's disease.

Not sure what your travel plans might be, but if you plan on coming in Saturday morning and departing same day, I would be more than willing to swing out to the airport and provide transportation. I can plan on bringing the wife's mini-van to transport whatever you may be bringing. We might have to drive around Manitowoc calling out Terry's name as I don't know the address!

Please change me from unconfirmed to probable as I can get off work. The only thing that would stop me would be illness or bad weather as I plan to drive. Dennis are you shipping the 2's? If so, email me or PM as I have an idea.

I'm going to attempt to appease Nuance with a little of my system information. I will post pics later this month after I change a few things, but I have a couple of pics in reply #130 on page 5 of this thread. You will have to live with that for the time being.

My gear list:

Source: Logitech Touch
My Touch is running the SoundCheck TT3.0 mods with the volume lock activated (very important, and a long story). The Touch is fed via wired ethernet cable from a server computer in my basement. The server computer is set to do all of the FLAC decoding and streams PCM to the Touch. The Touch is also powered by a DIY power supply that almost made me flip out the first time I heard it. The performance is FAR better than just using an off the shelf linear power supply.

DAC: Eastern Electric MiniMax Plus
The DAC is completely stock at the moment, and will likely stay that way. I am using a Psvane 12AU7 tube though. I have some opamps I've rolled, but I'm very happy with the sound as-is.

Preamp: Rogue Audio Perseus
The preamp is 100% stock including the tubes. Since its arrival in my setup, I have been completely satisfied with it's performance. It basically just disappears completely with the tubes providing a more 3D and layered sound stage. For the record, there is no traditional warm or tube sound allowed in my house. I look to get the sound as realistic as possible.

Amps: Odyssey Audio Stratos Extreme SE Monoblocks
These monos have the "Extreme SE" upgrades which are dual transformers, and upgraded wire/components inside. It is my understanding that they output a little over 200wrms into 8ohms, and approximately 360wrms into 4ohms.

Cables: Don't kid yourself, they matter!
For those that care... I have a Black Cat SilverStar 75 digital coax between the Touch and my DAC. I am in the process of trying to decide between the Sweet Spot Reveal IC's and Morrow MA2 IC's. Both sound fantastic, but offer slightly different presentations. Either sets sound absolutely wonderful, so I'm having a difficult time picking a "winner." I'm running a DIY pair of PCOCC speaker cables that I think are the best I've heard. I purchased them pre-made with a loose Litz braid for $60.00 shipped.

Of course my speakers are Salk HT2-TL's with the older LCY ribbon tweeter. I don't think I've found their limits yet, but I don't think I'll be trying to anymore either. I've loved them since day one, and I've heard no other speaker I'd rather have. I do have an interest in possibly getting some Magnepan's in the future.

I do run a pair of EQ'd DIY 18" TC Sounds LMS-Ultra's for both music and HT. I hope to be able to show their performance for music at the GTG, time permitting. I think they are absolutely spectacular, and I can't live without them for my room. Of course they will likely be out of the room for the GTG to allow every speaker to display its full performance. I'm not worried about my HT2-TL's as they easily shake the floor with their bass output.

I hope this is enough info to keep Nuance off my back for a while...
