I almost would like to see Paul Van Valkenburgs Formula None concept to see what interesting ideas would be developed.

I'm ignorant here....can you explain or link?

I don't think I would want Flavio in charge of writing the rules.

I am guessing you aren't that old or overly obsessed with racing like I was.

This kind of gives an overview of what Paul wrote in his book.

Speed Channel's website prints the same stuff (which I follow religously).

Thanx, interesting read.

I heart Monaco.

Yeah, the Grand Prix of Monaco is the pinnacle of motor racing, it seems to me. It was really fun to watch 200 MPH F1 cars having to slow to 60 to navigate the Hairpin Turn. The whole course is so tight, the average speed is only about 100 MPH. I bet that's not a lot faster average speed than the winner of the first race achieved in 1929. Great stuff!

Oh, they go slower than that at the hairpin. 36 MPH (60 KPH)..it's the slowest corner in F1.

I heard the commentators say "60" when I watched the telecast yesterday. I concede that the guy probably meant KPH because it looked like the cars were going only about 35 MPH around the Hairpin Turn. As you said, it's the slowest corner in F1.

If you are talking about the Speed commentators, they get stuff wrong all the time.

I don't catch them screwing up too much.
Highly knowledgable and entertaining IMO.

My wife and I both catch them in error about something just about every race. Often multiple times. We've gotten used to it and expect it.

Out of SkyHD, Speed and BBC I prefer BBC whenever possible. Eddie Jordan is so entertaining, and Damon Hill is a surprisingly smooth talker and good presenter.

I watched qualifying intro, qualifying, race intro and the race. Unlike most other races, I enjoyed qualifying more than the race itself. And BBC's intros were so much fun.

Sometimes they misspeak, but hey....they're old.

Never seen the BBC feed.

Really like the Jpg....

I agree that the Speed guys are all right. They may make the occasional mistake but they are nevertheless colorful and informative, so what's not to like?

I enjoy Steve Matchett's technical insight which is useful since he was on a winning F-1 team. If anything it is poor David Hobbs who gets muddled up occasionally. I had his poster for years on my wall when he drove the IMSA BMW car.

That was 1981. I had to look that up, as I didn't remember him driving in IMSA.

I've seen that car (BMW 3.5 CSL) a couple times. They have been putting it on display outside the BMW Corral at the 12 Hours of Sebring the past couple of years. One year they used it (and a M1) to lead the BMW club parade laps at Sebring. That was a blast because IMSA allowed 3 laps (instead of normal 2) and the pace was faster than usual (I was up to 95 on the back straight in my MINI).

Anyone attending the Montreal F-1 race next week?
matchett makes the Speed broadcast worth watching cause his detailed knowledge is invaluable.

Agreed.
I have learned a lot listening to him (and Hobbs).
I think Varsha, Hobbs, and Matchett have fine chemestry and just about cover it for me.
Even the "new" kid (Will) has been doing well (although he does make mistakes here and there).

I agree. The kid on pit row tickles me to death. He gets so excited, he froths at the mouth but his enthusiasm is contagious.

Yeah I'm not a fan of the new paddock guy at all. Peter Windsor was so good at it.

I was hoping that some AVS Forum members, who are F-1 fans, would be there to possibly meet up. Anyone else attending?

We have talked about going sometime, but not this year. As it is we may cancel plans for Austin's USGP this year and see how the event unfolds. We're still waiting on ticket pricing to make a decision. If COTA gets greedy about it we won't go.

I didn't realize Texas was that late in Nov. F1 is really going late in the calender year. My brother mentioned driving down from Dallas, so I could hook up with him to go. I would have to think about though as I am going to Cedia in Sep.
