2012 F1 in HDTV - Page 23

One of the current rumors is Bernie giving TV duties to Sky (for the 3D capability.)

Another rumor is HD in-car coming soon.

It's been a long time since I've seen a race this predatory. Hamilton had one mission, and he completed it. I thought it was just stunning to see him go after Vettel like that, and the two of them so outclassing the field.

This is the first of the "new" tracks that really looks like a true road course - almost impossible I thought, for an artificial track to achieve that, but they did it. Spectacular esses, multiple passing areas, high speed, elevation changes ... and watching the drivers figure it out - Oh look, I can pass here! - was fun. I think John Watson must have had a hand in the design - arcane reference no one will get so don't worry about it smile.gif

It was a great duel.cool.gif
To me it was not much of a "duel". Vettel was gone after he baited Lewis early on to get him to wear down his first set of tires. Hamilton caught up to him more than once and then eventually passed Vettel for the win! Vettel really never came back and made a pass. It appeared as he did to his own tires what he was trying to get Hamilton to do earlier and that is use them up. I cannot wait to go there in April for MotoGP!wink.gif

I am not sure Vettel actually WAS baiting him.
He may have genuinely lacked the speed.

Agreed - I don't think Vettel is dumb enough to engage in that, unless maybe you need to crash out of the lead like Senna at Monaco to get it.

Unless there's irrefutable evidence of it, I doubt if a F1 driver would do it at all. My guess is that Vettel, with his early lap dominance (so risking using up his tires) has developed a technique of taking it easy for several laps, then clicking off a few fast ones, then back to easy. This opposed to "sort of but not really easy" consistently once he has a large lead. My hypothesis would at least explain lap times that the TV guys would interpret as baiting.

Of course, Hamilton is kind of pokey, usually needs something to inspire him to really charge. Should I put a smiley there? I think I should wink.gif
post #666 of 789
Maybe "baiting" is the wrong word.I was going off of what Steve Matchett was stating at the time of the race. Hamilton caught up to Vettel and Vettel then ran off a couple of fast laps that Hamilton had difficulty matching due to his tires.

Hopefully they will have some CCD-based cameras. Otherwise, I would prefer CCD+SD to CMOS+HD anytime.
It has been said by Hobbs that Lewis is the best passer in the business.
After watching him over the years, I can't really disagree.

If I WAS leading an F1 race and LH was right on my rear slicks, the last thing I would do is fiddle around and give him opportunities to go by.
The risk would too great (IMO).

Great post. Love the track, they really did a great job designing it, and Hamilton and Vettel were so far in front, they really outclassed the field. Glad to see Fernando stay alive in the points race though. Anything can happen in Brazil, can anybody say ALTERNATOR FAILURE FOR VETTEL.........

I am a Vettel fan, but would love to see Alonso win the championship.
His gutsy performances this year have been amazing...

I can only hope for this! I think Vettel is a great driver, but it'd be wonderful to see Alonso win after such an incredible amount of effort this year.

I haven't read back in this thread at all - is there any update on F1 coverage in the US next year?

+1 for Alonso. Spectacular drives in a car that is not quite the equivalent of the Red Bull or McLaren.

NBC Sports for F1 next year.

I would like to see Alonso win, but not because of a mechanical failure for Vettel.

If Vettel gets the hat trick, he most certainly deserves it.

Well, Alonso didnt deserve to be taken out at the start in two races this year, both of which he got hit and it was not his fault. If those didnt happen it might be Fernando leading Vettel right now.

I am torn anyway, Vettel as a person is my fav driver, he has a neat personality, i really like him. But i love Ferrari so much my whole life, plus Fernando has done the most insane job of getting everything and more possible out of a car this season, i just feel he deserves this championship.

True.
However, Vettel had at least one DNF.

DNFs are certainly a part of racing. Some times they are faultless, sometimes they aren't, but I never wish it on anyone so that another can gain advantage. The idiots in NASCAR might like to see massive wrecks that take out a significant part of the field, but I'm always happy to see everyone finish and no one suffer a premature exit from the race. A full field to the end adds that much more excitement and drama.

Normally i hate a DNF too, but to be honest, without Vettel having a DNF in Brazil, i dont see any way Alonso is gonna win the championship.

So i am being selfish. Hey, if Alonso has 2 and Vettel has 1 this year, that would just even it up at 2 each!!!!!!

I keep trying to justify a Vettel DNF, and i know its wrong, but what the hell, go Ferrari. At least if Vettel wins it, i love the guy, i think he is a neat guy with a good personality, and he can sure drive!!

Well if RBR had a failed pit strategy that put Seb at 5th with Alonso winning the race and the championship by 2 points, that would be very cool. It is also in the realm of possibilities biggrin.gif

It's possible, but....

BTW, there is a forecast for rain and that would be a HUGE factor on the race.smile.gif

Have they confirmed announcers? Please tell me it won't be the Indy Car announcers...

In the booth, it will be Leigh Diffey, Hobbs, and Matchett.
Who will do the pits isn't known yet....hopefully, it will be Will.

For some frickin' reason my DirecTV DVR didn't record the race.confused.giffrown.gif

Fortunately, it is being repeated at 1:30PM PST.smile.gif

Sad to see Bob will not be involved, but I have enjoyed Leigh Diffey's work when he has subbed for Bob.

Brian

good news on hobbs/matchett...

not so good news with diffey... frown.gif i find him very difficult to listen to, he sounds like he is "acting", not "commentating"... also, he's a bit to caught up in the "majesty of f1", if you know what i mean...

i will miss varsha... frown.gif he's like a comfortable old shoe...

exciting race today... smile.gif i wish they could make it rain randomly at every race...

Brazil seems to produce nailbiters as the final championship race. Not necessarily just for the title, the championship point fight between the second tier teams was great to watch.

The most, or one of the most, exciting races all year.
A great big, fat cherry on top of the season.smile.gif

Poor Hulkenberg being hit with the safety car and the undeserved drive-thru penalty.
A great performance by the kid.

I am not looking forward to NBC getting F1 next year.
