Fastest Blu-ray Converter

This might already discussed in here, but I cannot find a specific thread on it. I'm trying to decide on the fastest blu-ray converter. I converted my blu-ray movies to HD MKV, HD AVI and other format. I stored the original copy away from my kids' busy fingers. I have tried numerous of video converters. It seems that DVDFab is the fastest converter. Again, I'm looking for converter speed. I purchased AVS Video Converter (it is very flexible, but it is slow and cannot convert blu-ray movie from folder), AnyDVD HD (it is for ripping purpose and it is very fast software), PavTube Blu-Ray (it has ton of options, but very slow), Leawo, Xilisoft and so on.

The HD videos are comparable with all converters. Again, I'm concentrate on speed. It seems that DVDFab is the fastest converter of all on my HTPC. The longest blu-ray converting process is from blu-ray folder, and DVDfab is the best in this arena (in term of speed).

Does anyone have any other comparison?

Also what size of final file are you getting. Are you converting (re encoding) or just ripping to new container?

So you want to convert more Blu-ray/DVD discs to MKV? Or what exactly are you asking?

I use MakeMKV to rip my Blu-ray to MKV files. It takes about 20-25 minutes per disc. I'm sure it's going to get much faster than that. But I'm not doing any conversion, I'm just dropping the decrypted audio and video into the MKV container for easy playback with other software.

That is correct. I converted blu-ray movies mostly to MKV and AVI files. I'm now starting to convert everything to MKV to play on Roku. Everything is fine. I'm wondering what the fastest video converter software is. I purchased and tried several video converters. DVDFab is the fastest on my computer.

That is very fast. Is it the entire movie? Have you convert the entire Avatar blu-ray to MKV? It took me 10hrs using AVS video converter and 4hrs using DVDfab.

You can dump anything into an MKV. You need to compare what is being encoded.

I'd change the CPU of the video card. You'd save hours vs asking which piece of software will shave off minutes.

CPU-based, software: i7 Sandy Bridge and pick your favorite software.
CPU-based, with hardware acceleration: Intel Quick Sync Video hardware transcoding
GPU-based: high-end nvidia CUDA card

Sure, changing the hardware will make the process faster. I can do that, but I'm just wondering what the fastest video converter on the market is?

+1. I'm currently using an Intel q9300, 4gb ram, WinXP, DVDFab to rip, tsMuxer to extract video and HD audio only, mkvmerge to create mkv. I'll be switching to an i7 2600K in a couple of weeks.

A CUDA-optimized converter or Intel Quick sync, either way it does not do you any good.

Just to add another note- to speed thing up a bit; sometime, I use my wife Intel® Core™ i5-480M with Windows 7 to convert blu-ray to MKV.

I know that better hardware will speed up the process dramatically and I understood that most of you have better hardware than me, but that is not my question. If you use multiple converters, you will know for sure that not all video converters are the same. Some has more features and some built for speed. I'm after the speedster. What is it?

If you use makemkv it can take 20-40 minutes. But their is no compression going on, just a new container. So the movie will be 20-40 gigs.

If you are trying to shrink the movie. Then it depends on your settings more then the app. Transcoding to h264, I can do a movie in 2 hours or 24 hours, with the same app. It all depends how good you want the quality to be.

I prefer ripbot264 for transcoding.

Here is my configuration:

1. AnyDVD HD to rip blu-ray to harddisk
2. DVDFab or PavTube to convert blu-ray to MKV directly from blu-ray folder on harddisk
3. MKV file is compressed to HD 1080P H.264/AV, 9000kbps
4. It is 5g to 10g MKV file at the end. I'm tried to preserve storage space. Without compress, I can do less than an hour too.

Oh, I almost forgot one important note. Roku recommend keeping the average MKV bitrate below 8mbps or so with peaks no higher than 12 or 14mpbs.

You did not mention this computer. Your recommended program will depend on your hardware and on what you want to do with it. If it's taking 10+ hours, you're likely encoding and no piece of software will be a speedster. Generally speaking, DVDfab is not the fastest, nor the slowest. There is one little program that is surprisingly speedy, but I cannot recollect its name and it was not for blurays.

Thats something you have to personally decide imo. And overclock your cpu as much as you can, if your system allows it. What type of encode time are you trying to achieve?

It is pointless trying to determine which program will shave extra minutes from a 10-hour encode. If encoding time is measured in minutes, you tend to look more towards quality. Better encoders come with advanced settings. These affect encoding speed.

It is 4hrs or less with DVDFab. I'm not really interesting in buy another video converter, because I have several of converters on several PC's and laptops. I'm just wondering if anyone has a chance to compare several video converters on the same computer. Which video converter is the fastest on the same machine?

DVDFab is the fastest on my machine. I'm happy with 4hrs or less encoding time. I usually do it before I go to bed, and I set DVDFab to turn off the computer automatically after the encoding is complete. I don't have a whole lot of blu-ray to convert anyway. I do it once in a full moon.

Depends on the machine and settings. And no, it won't be DVDFab. However, it supports CUDA, you seem to like it, so get a high-end nvidia card and you'll be much happier with the speed.

Again man its all in the settings. I like ripbot264. Or handbrake. Both are free.

Dependent on settings in can take 2 hours or 20. Its all in the settings you choose.

If you're comparing encoding speeds of decent software programs, the most significant variables are the CPU, the codec and settings. If you want to sacrifice some quality, it's the GPU. Software uses the CPU and nothing can turn an i3 into an i7. Default software settings are different. Not all software is equal, that is true. I would be wary of fast encodes on a slow system. DVDfab is ok. I like the monkey. I cannot find a practical use for it (the converter).
