i'mma try those settings...how much or where are you guys purchasing your 3d glasses? thanks!
I will be venturing into this as well and see that there are pairs on Amazon for $50-$60@ (find the TV on there, and you'll see glasses at the bottom as suggestions). Anything but 'free' is still a kick to the nuts after purchasing this TV IMO, but I knew this going in.

That becomes part of the decision to even buy this TV in the first place. The 3D feature will be more for entertainment for the kids, so I doubt I'll get comments like "that was cool, but the ghosting and cross-talk was a little much for me - also it was a bit duller than I thought for 1080 3D."...

Thanks Tory, I will play around with it when I get that source, maybe I'll get sucked into that medium if it does a decent job.

Good luck to those purchasing this TV. Don't let my earilier posts scare you - this is still a beast of a TV, and I was able to dial it in. Honestly, I was hoping that I could just take calibrated settings, apply them, and bingo. Such is not the case, just use those as a starting point and make adjustments based off what you think looks good. You are the one watching the lion's share of the time. Nobody has complained about the color or picture quality thus far, and I suspect nobody will. (and I do have buddies that would tell me if it was jacked)

Picked up the 60" from hhgregg the other the day. Dont think I can live with the clouding. I tried the rubbing technique doesn't work but whats odd is if I push lightly next to one of the clouds in the center it relives some of the pressure and it will make the nearest clouds vanish. This doesn't work for the outer bleeding. This leads me to believe that the screen is under some sort of stress or lack of.

So to sum this tv up it is a great tv for daytime watching but for night time not so good for those darker scenes.I dont care for the opc mode. I keep the brightness between +6 to 8, and I have set the brightness all the way down to -16 and the brighter clouds are still noticeable.

There is no noticeable lag in MW3 in game mode.

This is a great tv and im a big fan of that yellow pixle it does make a big difference but for $2000 the clouding is unacceptable. Not sure what to do this was the last on in stock I want good bright colors but deep uniform blacks. I was looking into a panasonic gt30 but from what I hear the colors are no where near as vivid.

Sums it up pretty well. Part of the reason I didn't buy the set even if the price point right now is damn low. Clouding bugs me a lot. Returned 3 tv because of it last year before giving up. Problem is not limited to sharp only. Samsung, LG and Sony all have the issue as well, even on backlit TV. The only saving grace is the higher end either have real local dimming or something similar to "mask" the clouding. Problem is, most of the time, this feature is disable in game mode to reduce input lag.

the TV I am looking for is plan for my basement where we watch tv almost in the dark. Clouding is very apparent for us.

I originally purchased the 60" 835U for my wife to watch while using the treadmill in the basement. I ended up buying a Denon 2112ci, 5.1 speakers, Xbox Kinect, and Panny Blu-Ray player. I networked everything with GigE so that I could control the devices and stream DLNA from a Twonky server with my iPad and Android phone. I also added some Pierre Paulin Orange Slice chairs from Artifort,a roll-up Dollamur mat, and a Pec machine .We now spend more time watching TV down there then in the living room - exercising, playing doubles with Kinect, and watching 3D Blu-Rays.

Yes, I do have clouding, but I still love the set and can deal with it. No TV I have had in the last few years has been completely free of some type of defect.

I will definitely consider a 2012 80" model for the living room.

Minus crt, plasma, rear projection. Its all to what degree, my 40'' brava lcd ccfl has minor bleeding in the corners but no clouds. I would have kept the 835u tv if it was limited to the corners but unfortunately that one cloud to the right middle has a special brightness to it. One mans $2000 may be worth more to him then another, I will check out the summer sharp line and hope I get lucky. For now its back to my sony 40" which seems mini in comparison.

I am a new owner of the 60le835 (Fry's $1499) and noticed while watching the Grammys during the recounting of the peaople that dies during the year, when the woman was singing. The background was very dark but there was still some deatils in the background that the contrast or brightness was flashing every few seconds like the tv couldn't decide on the color of the dark areas. And there was alot of tiling in the area. I have Uverse (cheapest service) and was watching of the DVR. I have used the calibrations a found on this site and most programs look fine. But it was VERY annoying watching this particular scene during the Grammys. Is there a particular setting that I can adjust to countact this?

Most likely macro blocking and compression artifacts that is inherent in the signal that your provider is providing to you. I wouldn't worry about it. Settle back with a nice blu-ray disc and forget about it.
Thanks IMWS. I was hoping it was the provider signal. I wish I could have switched back and forth to OTA to check that scene. I do like the set very much. Had a 46 sammy LCD from about 5 years ago. Now it is the secondary den TV. It still works very well for its age and the amount of use we gave it...
I was wanting last years 830 but it had discontinued at my local HHGreggs so the sales guy offered me the LC52LE835U at a price i could not refuse .
However after setting up/using the calibrations here (Thanks guys) and then trying the Star Wars b/ray I noticed the dreaded clouding which is virtually the same on my set as the pic hydro5135 posted along with terrible edge bleeding
I've tried different settings over this past week and nothing gives with the clouding so its going back tomorrow for a replacement .
I'll try a couple more sets to see if i can win the panel lottery for this model but after reading the problems other folks have with this TV I am not exactly hopeful .
Shame really as watching blue rays on the TV made my jaw hit the floor and playing games like Battlefield 3 on our ps3 without any input lag made it more desirable to me (Not bothered about the 3d so never bothered getting glasses to try it out )

Hello, read every post on this thread and THOUGHT I was satisfied with my tv, the LC 60LE835U......that is until tonight when I TRIED to watch the Nascar BudLight Shootout. I am using the OP's movie settings and had TERRIBLE motion blur from my DirecTv. Too painful to enjoy and everything I tried only made it worse. Any suggestions for me to try????? Thanks!!

Is it possible that the problem was at Direct TV? If you've watched the Speed Channel or any other sporting event and have been satisfied with it then it stands to reason that something was not right with the NASCAR event that you've noted. People understand one thing and that is the perfect signal medium does not exist. There are times when things are not properly presented. It's not the TV but the signal. We all know that LCD's have problems with motion but if you've tolerated it to this point and all of a sudden you notice extreme motion blur then perhaps it is with the provider and not the TV.

Hello all, first post in here. I signed up to specifically post in this thread.

I picked up a 835U, my problem is I cant really find a tune for this, I have tried every config. posted in this thread. This is not my first HD set, I have 2 other Sharp LCD's that IMO have a better picture then this set. Is there something I am possibly missing? I'm looking for that "POP" in 2d that I have seen on other sets (LED's).. Out of all the set up's posted in here, they all look bland to me and my wife to our other 2 sets.

I have tried tuning it myself for my own liking and cant seem to find anything. To be honest I'm thinking of returning it for a SAM. Please help me if you think I might be missing something, I'm a Sharp fan but this is giving me a headache. It's not the box or the HDMI cable ETC... I cant even find a tune playing a blueray. Please let me know!

Thanks in advance!

Very good possibility.....I watched several other fast paced programs this week and no blur at all. I think something was probably was wong with the Directv source. Thanks for your information in this thread!! It has helped me very much.

The problem was the Direct tv source.....the Daytona race was great!! My next issue is I bought a 3D DVD and updated my PS3 to play it and it will not work. I get a message saying the PS3 does not detect a 3D monitor?!?!? Tried everything to get it to work without success....Any suggestions???

Just purchased the 60LE835U about 3 weeks ago...been using the AVS (free download, THANKS EVERYONE!!!) and the Spears & Munsil BDDVD for calibration..have to say the picture is 90% FANTASTIC...especially the 3D! Personally the 4th color I think adds to a wonderful viewing experience (this is open to personal interpretation). But...I have terrible clouding issues on dark/black screens and ocassional motion blur. I am Sooooo very dissapointed, cause i so badly wanted to love 100% of this unit. I have decided to exchange it and was hoping to get the same model as I have seen with others having the same issue a simple exchange provided a model that didnt have such issues. Unfortunatly the store I purchased has no more in-store as they are stting up displays for the 2012 models..I have tried every calibration setting on this thread and various others, sadly none are to my liking. Any help on this would be GREATLT APPRECIATED!! I dont want to go to another brand and really like the quattron 4th color, and the 60' new 2012 745u's will not offer the 4th color (yellow), to my knowledge only the 80in will have it...which SUX, casue thats just toooo much screen for me. and any feedback on the 745U's would be very much appreciated as well!

bbmclain, for ps3 3d, try going to display settings and turning off Deep Color Output.

Sounds like glitch within the remote or cable box? Not sure what you can do, have you called Sharp yet?

On a different note, on your 635u, are you having any clouding issues (puffy white spots on dark scenes) or vertical black lines (looks somewhat like brush strokes) coming from the top or bottom of the screen (prodominently on white/blue/green backgrounds) ??
Anyone have quality settings for watching sports?

When watching soccer, vertical black lines are dominant, especially when screen pans left to right and vice versa...worried this will happen during football games too.

Hey CF - I've had my 835U for about a month now. Still haven't put it through all of it's paces, but I did happen to catch the Superbowl on it, and I didn't notice any uniformity/band issues (grass surface). I have noticed that in hockey games, there is a bit of what I guess is termed 'DSE' - dirty screen effect on these forums.

This really only happens on left/right sweeping pans with a white background (ice/snow). It is not so bad that it is bothersome, but it is there. I was at a bar watching the hockey game on an LG, and it had DSE pretty bad. It was annoying. No settings I have played with have on the 835 have eliminated it.

All other sports I have watched - golf, football, basketball all have looked pretty damn good. Have only really toggled between 240Aqua, & 120High. Pretty much all my other settings the same (Dynamic, mostly based on Roo's post).

This TV defintely has it's flaws -all do, but the good far outweigh the problems so far. Also helps to see that the deal I got is going to be good for quite a while based off current pricing.

hey Kampai~

I am an avid soccer fan and spend probably about 50% of my time watching games. It happens to me on both left/right and right/left pans. It also happens on blue/white backgrounds...this is so distracting and annoying that I am considering just returning the unit and waiting for the new 9 series (full array w/ local dimming) to come out this summer

I have defintely put this thing thru its paces, I have calibrated with both the Spears & Munsil and AVS (free-THANKS everyone!!) cali discs. I have it where most things, especially blu ray and 3D look quite good (minnimal clouding issues and next to no DSE).

I know with any edge-lit there will be issues, but if this is an issue that will disrupt things that we view a good 50% of the time, sadly the cons might just out weigh the good for my household...
It all kind of boils down to what is tolerable. My panel still has some clouding, but I don't watch it in complete darkness 95% of the time so it's not super noticeable. It also seems to become more apparent as the TV warms up and is on for a few hours.

Again, as far as sports and other content goes, I am pretty happy with what this panel can do. I can definitely see the issues discussed in this thread as being deal breakers depending on what you feel is acceptable.

Where is the content coming from? Sometimes there can be some differences in quality depending on what is feeding it. Source to source and even channel to channel. Golf Channel HD may have some subtle differences compared to NBC HD. Same with NHL Channel HD vs VERSUS HD. I also have all my sources feeding into a HK receiver. So the problem of addressing issues is that there are differences in the panel itself (even though same model, set-up, the source, the lighting etc etc.) I tend to lean toward if I see similar content from two different sources, and one has an issue and one doesn't, then I would say that it isn't the TV, it's something else. Nothing scientific, but that's how I look at it.

...

I watch a lot of ice hockey on my 835U. I have Comcast Hi-Def and HD ice hockey games (especially played at my home-town rink) are gorgeous. Panning does not affect the image at all; in fact I am finally able to follow the puck around (couldn't do that very well with my old LCD TV). Now there are games at rinks with lower quality cameras; and the image quality reflects it.
Kampai & VFC -

Both good points about the soucres that are feeding the signal to the unit. I have noticed the clouding on all sources, blu ray, sd dvd, and generic 1080i cable signal thru ATT uverse. The vertical lines "DSE" are primarily when watching the cable feed, now that I think about it.

Guess I just need to make the decision to live with its flaws(as any other unit with have similar/different issues) or return it and wait for the new 9 series. It will be a huge price jump though and I got a GREAT deal on the 835u, $1999 with sharp blu ray player and 2 pair of glasses!
Yes, the clouding on mine is pretty consistent (though it is on right now with a Pandora screen saver - mostly black, and I don't really see it).

I have Xfinity too (Comast HD) and I do have a bit of DSE on hockey. But again, it's not distracting. Overall, the picture is very good, and coupled with the sound coming from my stereo, the overall viewing experience is great - immersive.

My first 3D glasses should be here today, so I am curious to check it out. Not putting the expectations too high - just hoping to be pleasantly surprised if this works decent. That will be another feather in the cap of this TV.

Sounds like people after deep/deep blacks should look at plasmas or local dimming. Though, been all over this site, and haven't found a thread on a product yet that was nothing but praise for all of the performance features a more than the average Joe is looking for in a high-end TV.

Plus, I don't want to rub it in, but I got my 835U for 7 balloons less than 2K. Glasses not included, but blu-ray player was. May help in my overall satisfaction....
