Cortiz,

Anyone having trouble viewing the 2 min. previews on vudu with this player? When I first purchased this player it worked fine. Not sure if it's from the latest fw update or what, but now it won't allow it. I can view trailers with no problem. If I use the vudu app on my Mitsubishi tv, I have no problem viewing the 2 min. previews.

Yes. I have the same problem with the VUDU 2 min preview. I contacted VUDU and they told me via email that it was probably a "remote" issue and to reset the remote. I have several remotes I can use with this unit--so I knew the remote was not the issue.

What does seem to work is if I unplug the S780 and then plug it in again. I am then able to view the VUDU two minute previews. This is the only work-around that has worked for me so far. I have no idea what is causing this issue--seems to pop up form time to time.

Does anyone know if you can turn on/off 16-Bit video processing on the S780 ?

After reading the manual I can't tell if the S780 processes at 16-bits by default (I cant find any mention of 16-bit processing in the manual). Likewise I am wondering if 16-Bit Video Processing is the same thing as SBM ( super bit mapping) function? If so, then when selecting SBM are you also turning-on 16-Bit????

There's also the ability to select 12bit, 10bit or "auto" HDMI "outputs" for HDMI Deep Color Output, but I don't think this is related to 16-bit video processing.

Any thoughts, opinions?

Why would you want to turn it off? It's the main selling point of the player

I agree. I just want to make sure its on ( 16-bit video processing mode). I am just not sure if by setting SBM to "on" then I am also engaging 16-bit video processing ?

Just got off the phone with Sony Customer service. Apparently as long as I am using a high speed HDMI cable the S780 will automatically use 16-bit video processing.

Thanks for the tip. Just unplugged it and plugged back in tonight. Did the trick. Now the question is, how often am I going to have to keep doing this.

YW. I agree--rather silly to go through this--but it works. (Maybe some future firmware upgrade will help correct).

What Logitech Camera did you try?

According to the Sony website only the C250 model is supported.

I just spoke to Logitech and they told me the C250 model & C910 have the same drivers. Has anyone tried a Logitech Skype Cam on the Sony BDP-S780 blu ray player?

On the advice of LBJ2, I bought the "MS LifeCam NX-3000", but haven't gotten around to using it yet. I have a grand plan which involves a tripod and making a little hoohah which will allow me the ability mount the camera, adjust it, put it where ever I want, etc.

The problem is that I have about 8 other grand plans.......
And, the camera was really inexpensive (important for someone like me). I think it was $15-20 including shipping (Amazon??? Don't remember for sure.....).

Yes. I tried the Logitech QuickCam ( for laptops). This camera didn't work with my S780. I called Logitech and they recommended their Skype camera C910. I don't know about the C250--but I see its a lot less expensive than the C910.

I found that the two Microsoft cams I tried both worked with the S780: the NX-3000 ( a laptop camera) and The LifeCam Cinema (720P).

I haven't tried MKV, but may fool around with that in the future. I'm really trying to build a decent 3D collection (no easy task that....). From about 10 feet away, my TV (73" Mitsu) does a pretty good job with 3D. What I REALLY want to do is convert my 120" projection setup to 3D, but a good 3D projector is too frakkin expensive....maybe in a couple of years?? :-(

I have not tried .mkv movies. I pretty much stick to blu-ray's, and streaming via the included apps.

I have the following issue with the 780 ( not PQ or AQ-both very good). When I initially connected it to my home network (wirelessly) to an iMac running a Twonky media server (makes mac dlna compliant) I was able to see all of my movie files and view them (avi) as well. Within 10 minutes, I was told that there was a firmware upgrade. As soon as I upgraded the firmware I was unable to see any files in thedirectory and can't see them or watch them. I don't understand why Sony allows us to watch those videos via a USB connected drive, but not via a LAN or wirelessly connected server. Any suggestions? How can one stream videos ripped to a NAS (iso, Vob, mkv etc)?

Equipment:
Marantz pre/pro av 7005 and mm8005 amp
Sony s780 blu ray
Hitatchi projector (6 yr old from prior house owner) connected via component (pre-hdmi)

You've gotten much further then me. My S780 doesn't recognize my iPhone at all when I connect via USB. I've tried two streaming services for my iMAC to S780--and no luck there either. I am however, able to stream MP4s from my iMac to the PS3 using "PS3 Media Server". http://download.cnet.com/PS3-Media-S...-10910073.html

Streaming from my PC to the S780 was pretty straight forward with no issues.
What file types are you able to stream? I'm thinking of purchasing a nas and need to verify that I can play the videos without having to purchase another device.
The manual says that it plays mp4s, etc, but NOT via a dlna server.

Quick request, anyone have the BDP-S780 Service Manual? Its the only one I don't have! If need be I'll buy one from Sony direct but it be nice to save $20.00

When I stream from a PC via the UPnp Windows Media Player to the BDP-S780 I am able to see all my video and photo files. I don't know all the video formats on the PC I am streaming but I can confirm .mov and mp4 as well as all my photos (jpegs)

I have not been able to stream any video from my iMac to the S780. I can stream jpegs but thats it. I am using the PS3 Media Server for Macs. I am however, able to stream mp4s from my iMac with PS3 Media Server to an actual PS3 device. So far this has only worked with MP4. I am still testing this out with my iMac. PS3 Media server is a free download and some high level instructions for Mac and PC can be found on CNET at http://cnettv.cnet.com/connect-compu...-50105763.html

You can download the Operating Instructions manual for free from
http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/mod...55&mdl=BDPS780

Not sure if this is the same as the "Service Manual"

You can turn it off or on in the setup menu under video.

Folks, does it have a zoom function?
Has anyone checked s780 capabilities as a media player ? (via usb)
I am mostly interested playing mkv's with external subs through an external ntfs usb hard drive.
