How many speakers in your setup? - Page 14

Ha! None of the above! I run 4.1. Works better for my TV room. I set my Pioneer VSX-1015 receiver to 4 speakers into two Baby Advents modified with different tweeters for close-in fronts on either side of the TV, two Pioneer HPM-900s for "rears", to the far sides about 20 ft apart in my setup, making a wide panoramic effect, plus a JBL powered subwoofer. Receiver mixes the center channel into the two front speakers. A phantom center channel results.

9.1: LCR, Front Wide, Side Surrounds, Rear Surrounds and a dual 15" sub with another under construction!

I have a 5.1 set-up but i just added a 2nd sub,,,

7.1 in the living room, 5.1 in the other 3 bedrooms (though at one point all but one set-up was running 7.1, I might hook up the extra speakers eventually).

system is 7.2 although I sometimes like the simplicity of 5.1. Equipment is Theta hardware front end, SVS B4 subs, and Krell TAS amps. I'm switching speakers but haven't decided where to go yet. Probably going to build a new house when re entering the US and thus a new theater. It'll be fun.

I have 5.1 but I like to have an extra pair of front speekers to swich from with a speaker selector or run simotaniously when I want a different sound when listening to music.

The selector is impedence matching so it isnt like I am harmingy my receiver in any way.

5.1 in my dedicated home theater and love it.

5.1 is all I'll ever want or need.

I used to think that same thing too. More speakers = better IMO. I will definitely go from my current 7.2 to an 11.2 system someday.

7.1 speaker system

7.1 system and was surprised by the sound that comes from the back surrounds. My room is 20x10 with the seating at about 11' and the TV about 2' from the front wall. Running Paradigm dipoles for the back surrounds.

5.1 still...

I have a 9.1 setup. I use front height and surround back to take advantage of BD formats and for tv. I can use only 7 speaker at once, but some movie on BD use surround back or DPIIx and with DTS master the channels used vary. Few movies if front height, but it makes for a super 5.1 setup with the extra 2 speakers in the front stage. It all comes down to preference. Front Height speakers are also great for music listening.

7.1 in the theatre room. 5.1 in the kids play area but really thinking on adding 2 front heights to it.

2.1 it's just a MX5021 :'(

4 powered speakers, two 6 1/2" inch subs in my dorm, makes the neighbors mad
post #413 of 467
7.1 now with heights and side surrounds. I see a lot of .2 going on here but I don't think there is any data for that second LFE channel even though my AVR does support 2 subs. It's still a .1 even if you add 5 speakers no?

Its only 7.1 because in addition to my 5.1 movie watching speakers I have 2 towers for listening to music. This makes 7. So I put the movie watching as the heights and kept the towers as the L&R.

Running a 7.1 system for my entry level system. Can't wait until I can get a new place that I can get a dedicate room going on and hopefully get an 11. system. But for the room in using, it works great.

I'm running a 2.0 channel for now. Will definitely upgrade in the future though.

Just got the new Denon 4520, and have an external amp, upgraded from 7.1 to DTS NeoX 11.2, I use a room for movies/hdtv hence the space to put up all these speakers. The front mains, side surrounds and back surrounds are all tower speakers, 4 of them powered.

Does is sound good, hell yeah, does is sound dramatically different than my 7.1 prior set up...the addition of an 18" subwoofer to the 15" subwoofer I think made the biggest difference especially in the big action movies. And the use of Audyssey XT32 with dual sub calibration I think was a big improvement over  basic Audyssey in my prior avr.    The heights add some subtle enviornmental effects and the wides have really made the whole soundfield more coherent, even more than the back surrounds which aren't that active in most movie scenes.

If any one has any speaker envy, don't, a 5.1 system with a good audio calibration will get you 92% of larger systems and add a second subwoofer if the significant other or zoning ordinances allow, calibrate it and the treat the room acoustically  if needed and you'll be rocking with the best of them.

I seem to be in the minority, having a 6.1 setup. And I love having the rear speaker, I really do a recommend rears all the time. It adds great depth to an otherwise 5.1 system.

Before there was surround sound, I set up my room to be a good two channel listening room. Of course, surround sound came in. Sadly, I am able to but only one speaker in the center of the rear wall, I would require construction to be able to add two speakers to the sides.

I have the Krell 707, which, by the way, has a software problem, now being resolved with the 6.1 system. It doesn’t give the correct options as it does for a 5.1 or 7.1 system. I have a good solution, but Krell is fixing the software.

I only have one sub woofer (Thiel 3) for my 14 by 18 room, but my front speakers are full range.

Does additional sub-woofers add a lot?
