I have a Sony KD34XBR2 TV, which has an ATSC tuner built in, so I plug the cable from the antenna directly into the "antenna" input on the TV. I also have DirecTV and use a Panasonic receiver, and could plug the antenna input into the Panasonic as well. If you get DirecTV (or Dish), the receiver you get should allow for OTA input, so even with a TV without a built-in tuner you won't really need a separate tuner unless you don't get satellite.
By the way, I get the OTA fairly reliably, although not 100% of the time (depending on weather conditions, I think). You'll be closer to NYC, and should have better reception. When ABC and NBC return to the HDTV scene in NYC, I will consider getting a better (outdoor) antenna.
