Halfway into the song (after 3:18) every second bass drop goes to a lower frequency of around 24Hz that can really shake the room.

It still sounds as interesting as when I first noticed it on the Animatrix video.

The Tron Legacy Reconfigured CD is terrific. I like the track "Derezzed" at -5 reference! AMAZING stuff!

Did anyone say 'Trip Like I Do' Crystal Method? This song has lower bass than almost anything else I have on iTunes.

36 Mafia have more bass than almost any band but if you really want to test your subwoofer then listen to 'Bass, I love you' by Bassotronics. You'll find out what happens when a driver gets pushed to it's limit...mwaaaaahahahahaha!!!

I feel the same...this song pounds and it's cool hearing the different tones on a good sub vs. a mess of bass as you normally hear it on most everything else. My wifes CD, but I use this song to show the capability of the sub to my friends.

Big Fat Bass - Britney Spears (Femme Fatale album). The bass on this track is absolutely amazing, it hits so many different notes...really showed me what my sub can do. Just make sure you play a good quality copy...you'll be blown away. The whole CD has nice bass throughout but this song in particular probably has the most ridiculous bass ever ENJOY!

My Oppo will play everything but Britney Spears discs.

Was that an expensive modification?

I saw Taj 2 summers ago at a Jazz Festival in South Dakota. I love " Lovin in My Baby's Eyes". I know it's his hit song, but still an all-time great. Definitely not a bass heavy song though.

Lots and lots of stuff by Sublime will have mega bass. Not sure how old some of you are so this may not be of your taste. I think stating bass cd's and gay arse sound tracks is cheating too. I mean who really listens to the Tron soundstrack or bass tracks. They have there place...but really?

Chemical Brothers - Don't Think

It's in the Black Swan movie when they go to the techno club. I wasn't ready for the bass sweep that hit as the scene changed to the club. Very cool!

Also, another good pick. Didn't expect that sort of bass when listening on my computer to sample and brought it downstairs and...yeah, not what I expected, lol, much heavier bass. Good "cluby" sort of tunes too.

For some recommendations from me: there's always stuff by Basshunter, the "Now You're Gone" album has a few tracks (Now You're Gone, All I Ever Wanted) that clubbers may recognize from a few years back and they slam pretty good.

There's also this track from an IASCA disc that we used to use for SPL fun.

Excellent choice.

Zero Seven has some good stuff too, especially on the "Simple Things" album.

Check out Holly Cole's terrific live album "It Happened One Night." She covers, among other things, several Cole Porter songs and other standards. Pay particular attention to the low bass notes on a string bass on her cover of "The Train Song" written by Tom Waits. It's a treat. Nevermind that she is a virtuoso vocalist with the voice of an angel, and has a fun personality to boot.

Amazing. I came in here to post about BSG. Easily the best TV score of all time and truly something to behold.

The taiko drums will really test the articulation of one's equipment rather than its depth-treading ability. I would also recommend Prelude to War from season two; my current subwoofer simply can't keep up and Bear McCreary's music is one of my primary reasons for wanting an upgrade.

This is cool stuff--is this a soundtrack that's available on CD?

Absolutely, all four seasons are available for purchase as well as the score to a "movie" called The Plan and the spin-off show, Caprica.

Sublime definitely has some heavy bass. Red Hot Chili Peppers doesn't have much deep bass, but they do have some kickin bass lines. E.g., Hump De Bump from Stadium Arcadium disc 1.

Always wanted a thread like this...here's a bunch from from varied genres...all solid selections consisting of 90% "real" music, and not rap/electronic pulsing that you can find on just about any bass/techno CD in existence. IMO, of course!!!

Sorry for the length, but I think they're all worthy!

1. Kasabian: Vlad the Impaler - West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum. Terrible LP title, excellent LP. Very deep punctuated hits throughout.

2. Common: Universal Mind Control - Universal Mind Control. Great tune, dreadful LP.

3. The Cranberries: No Need to Argue - No Need to Argue. Many may be familiar with the organ here. Superb vocal and bass mix here.

4. Beastie Boys: Intergalactic - Hello Nasty or the Sounds of Science. Many have never heard this track on a rig with stellar bass reproduction...surprise them...and perhaps yourself!

5. Kaiser Chiefs: Never Miss a Beat - Off With their Heads. Another smart pop tune that has a surprisingly tight boom to it.

6. Beatles: Come Together - Abbey Road. Another one that really shines, properly reproduced. The classic bassline's a lot deeper and affecting than many have ever heard.

7. Blur: On the Way to the Club - Think Tank. Long, pulsing bassline throughout.

8. Electronic: Dark Angel - Raise the Pressure. OK, an electronic pick. Nothing exceedingly heavy, just solid, aggressive hits.

9. Fleetwood Mac: The Chain - Rumours. Not much needs to be said about the timeless bass-moment half way through this song.

10. Foo Fighters: Still - In Your Honor. If you're not a fan, it's notihing you'll expect...if you are, then you already know. Will make you smile...especially starting at 1:16. Get this song.

11. Gnarls Barkley: Crazy - St. Elsewhere. Another one eveyone likes, but you can still impress by revelating its depth.

12. Jay Z: Moment of Clarity - The Black Album. Not huge into rap, but this is solid and has some serious low tones.

13. John Mayer: Vultures - Continuum. Very clean. Excellent.

14. Justin Timberlake: What Goes Around - Future Sex. Don't get it twisted...the woman's choice here but absolutely stupid bass when the outro starts.

15. Kings of Leon: On Call - Because of the Times. Very wobbly, excellent bassline.

16. LCD Soundsystem: Dance Yrself Clean - This Is Happening. Worth the 3 minute intro. Trust me.

17. Outkast: Ghetto Musick - Speakerboxxx. Not for everyone.

18. Radiohead: Myxomatosis - Hail to the Thief. Mean. From the masters.

19. Sade: No Ordinary Love - Love Deluxe and Best of Sade. For all of you Adult Contemps out there. Classic.

20. Tribe Called Quest: Ince Again - Beats Rhymes and Life. Very spry bass line with some twists

Wow, no Genesis fans here? I totally agree with mastermaybe, it needs to be real music to qualify for this list. That's why you must pick up Genesis Live When in Rome. Crank up Home by the Sea - actually, it's the second half of that song - Second Home By the Sea that has the killer bass notes, but there's no menu selection for it. You'll know when most of the singing stops and it becomes mostly instrumental that "Second Home..." has started. When I want to shake the walls, I go straight to that bookmark.

Another favorite choice is Rick Wakeman's Six Wives of Henry the VIIIth. When he plays the big pipe organ you will feel it more than you hear it. Quite an entertaining show as well.

Another good choice is Pink Floyd's Pulse DVD. "Sorrow" is killer, as is "One of these Days", especially when they start hammering on the HUGE drum.

I guess this pretty much telegraphs my age group as well
