Couldn't get video to pass through the HDMI connection. Had to unplug the receiver and restart it to get it to work again.

ya i saw a few wireless bridges at frys ... currently i have my ps3, htpc, both running off the fios router which is upstairs... i figured that the wireless bridge will be about as fast as a wireless usb adapter anyway, so i was just hoping to find one that works... i googled it and found something a while ago (it may have been on this site), but ive been trying for days and i guess i dont have the correct search keywords, because now i cant find it... thanks ..

Use a wireless-N router and a wireless-N bridge for best range and performance.

Still no luck connecting my NR609. I even purchased a new router (Linksys E1500) in hopes that it was the problem. More info below (in response to your questions):

Yep. I've tried that multiple times. Also, I've tried setting up a static IP and pinging the Onkyo from my laptop-- but get "no route to host".

When the Onkyo is configured for DHCP, it does not show up in the DHCP Clients table. I also have logging enabled and it does not show up in the DHCP request log either (but all my other devices do, so I know the log is working).

I did a factory reset last night. Still no network connectivity. I know the factory reset worked because I had to reconfigure everything after. I wish they made a way to save/restore your settings with a USB stick.

Yes, I've tried unplugging many times. I've tried unplugging the router and Onkyo, plugging in the router, waiting for it to get an IP on the Internet and then plugging in the Onkyo. I've read that sometimes works-- but not for me.

I don't recall for sure if the network lights on the port lightup, but I think they do. I know the port is fine. I unplugged the cable from the Onkyo and plugged it into my Roku instead and the Roku got an IP no problem (and I even tested streaming some HD video to make sure throughput was OK).

I'm beginning to think I have a faulty unit, but I really don't want to have to ship it to Onkyo. Sounds troublesome and expensive.

Thanks all for the help! I really appreciate it!
Hmmm, let me think some more on this... but while I do...

You say you swapped out eh Onkyo for the Roku, same cable? Make sure the cable is good, check it with something else before the Onkyo.

Also check for lights on the router when you connect the Onkyo as Jim suggests.

I plan to set a static IP on the Onkyo, I have found that as devices join and leve the DHCP assigned address for the Onkyo changes and my remote control program can't find the AVR, best to have it set to an IP address 'outside' the DHCP range.

I don't know if this will help, but I saw that someone had FIOS and were having a hard time connecting one device to another. I had a similar issue awhile back and I solved it. Basically, the problem is simple. The FIOS routers are terrible connecting a wired device to a wireless device on the same network. I tried to connect my iPad (wireless) to my Apple TV (Wired) via air play and the results were terrible. Both could access the internet, but not each other (reliably). They would see each other one second and then never again until I reset one of the devices. Rinse and Repeat.

How did I solve it? I turned off wireless access on the FIOS Router completely. I then physically connected my Apple Airport to the FIOS router in bridge mode. I then connected all wireless devices to the airport. The FIOS router pretty much thinks my wireless clients are all wired clients connected to a physical network hub. When I did this. Bam, everything worked and never stopped working from that point forward.

I've been using a 609 for about 6 months or so and suddenly today my tv screen is green. Bypassing the 609 to the dish receiver works fine, so Im assuming its an hdmi issue. From what I see on the unit, the only difference is a T-D under my cbl/sat info, which I dont think was there before (was something else). Switching hdmi cables did not help, nor did switching to something other then cbl/sat. Any ideas as to what the deal is? TV is a Sony 46Ex700 and Ive had zero issues with my setup until today. My 2 yr old has grabbed the remote and tinkered with the buttons on occasion so im wondering if he hit something that did this. I feel like Ive tried about every setting to get it working and nothing has worked....

Hi sacrifist, listening mode T-D (Theater-Dimensional). Maybe try resetting the receiver back to default (note will need to run auto setup again if you reset).

Edit: guess unplugging power cord will do too

I recently picked up the NR609 and a pair of JBL L810's for small fronts. Watching The Lord of the Rings Blu-rays right now and the audio seems to be lagging behind tye video by just a hair. Any ideas how to fix this? Listening mode is set to Direct.

The issue is probably the FIOS router sets up different networks for wired and wireless - so both cannot see each other unless you set up port forwarding and all that crap because of NAT.

I never bothered with it on mine and went Airport w/bridging as you did. I could not be happier.

I have had the Onkyo 609 for a couple of weeks. I have a 55 Samsung led mounted on the wall and wanted to run 1 hdmi calbe to the tv and my dish box, blu ray and wii into the receiver. As posted from others, I have a slightly noticeable, but huge pain in the butt dropping of frames/jutter on the slow panning shots. I have turned off the video processing on the receiver, and turned off the motion plus on the tv, but it still doesn't seem perfect. Luckily, I have the ability to rewire the dish box, blu ray and wii directly to the tv and use optical audio to the receiver. I will lose my osd and some of the audio formats only hdmi can provide from the blu ray. Is it possible to change the output from the receiver to 24 f/s rather than 30? Or did turning off the receiver decoding change it to pass through? Either way, I am very disappointed as this was a key aspect to this purchase. Considering returning for a Yamaha.

After experimenting, I found going left to right or right to left with the center position being second, everything came out fine.

Really??? Well that's weird... I may be facing a similar case too... I always wondered on the Audyssey official thread about my SL being set at -8 to -7 as compared to my SR at -2 to -3 wherein the main listening position is in the dead center. Maybe this is an explanation. I tried recalibrating, switching speakers, but still yielded the same results. I always go CENTER, LEFT of CENTER, then RIGHT of CENTER. This may explain it... Lol!

Same problem here. I never looked at the actual numbers, because I didn't really notice the problem that much until I was listening to Dark Side of the Moon on SACD, and the sound was very left-side heavy. I recalibrated with the center position second, and everything is much better now.

Hello everyone..

Iv just got one of these and have had no end of problems setting it up!

I WAS getting sound but no video, but after much messing about i realised that the HDMI lead to the TV wasnt quite seated correctly, anyway, now im having problems getting the OSD to show, it WAS working, i did a firmware update, it didnt complete, it took 2 hrs to get to 83% and when i pressed a button on the remote it stopped the update, after that it wouldnt show the OSD, i resumed the update via the display on the unit which completed no problem this time.

It STILL wont show the OSD! when i try to call it up the screen goes blank and wont go back to showing the TV until i turn it off and on again. iv also got an Xbox & Ps3 connected, they don't work! it just throws up a green or orange screen that looks like a very bad digital signal..

Im losing patience with this!

Any help with this would be VERY gratefully received!!

Thank you..

Check this setting
Menu --> 6. Miscellaneous --> On Screen Display (On/Off)
Page 56 of owners manual. Hopefully this is it. Also I had a firmware update issue like that before. What I did was select FM radio tuner before selecting update over network. Last couple of updates seem to download and install faster.

Hi Mike, i have checked, unchecked, checked again that setting! OSD is set to on.. but still having problems.. im going to get a new HDMI lead thats 1.4 compatable as mine are quite old cheap ebay types.. that may be the problem..

Hi Fraggle101, try unplugging power cord for a few minutes or reset the receiver microprocessor.
Do you mean do a factory reset? done that too.. several times,

Its strange, when i first plugged it in i was only getting sound, i found out that was because of the hdmi wasn't seated properly on the TV, sorted that and the OSD was working too.. after the failed firmware update its never worked since! it only displays the settings on the front of the unit.. so iv reset it, and iv completed an update too.. but its still not playing..

Another thing, the Xbox & Ps3 wont display, only get a colourful screen full of flicker! although, the Xbox did display for a short time.. now its not..

Curious, what does it show on the FPD when you press the "Display" button for a few seconds?
When i press it it says 1080i/50 - 1080p/50 but if i hold it down for a few seconds it just goes back to where it was to start with..

Whats supposed to come up?

If you're within the return period, suggest returning for exchange if the reset, unplug power or a new HDMI cables doesn't solve your problem.

New HDMI cables and still the problem persists!

Iv contacted Richer Sounds and its going back tomorrow for a replacement.. what a mess about! lets hope the new one isn't related to this one!!

I've been going center, right of center then left of center. I've been having some issues with levels as well, I wonder if the pattern in the manual is just wrong?

Can anyone confirm the proper microphone placement?

Hi everyone. I expect to be purchasing an NR609 as part of a new main floor AV setup within the next week or so. My wife and I have three Sirius accounts between us. I'd prefer to stream SiriusXM directly from the internet through the NR609, rather than using a Sirius receiver. Given the considerable internet radio capabilities of this receiver, is it possible to do this? Thanks!
as long as you have a sirius x m internet account there is a spot for it.

Thanks! That's the answer I was hoping for, and eliminates any concerns I had about buying this receiver.

Hey guys just received the unit last night, with the wifi unit coming in in a few days.

Now I only had about an hour to play with the unit, and 45 minutes of that was wiring it up, but I can't say I was blown away. I have polk audio TSI tower front speakers and center speaker, and samsung surrounds that went with the samsung HTIB that the Onkyo was replacing.

Now I must admit I was only able to test it watching the film Mama Mia on Cable, (Girlfriend barely would let me hook it up, so I compromised by letting her finish her movie), but I was expecting to be blown away out of the box but I'm actually a little let down compared to my samsung.

Are there any settings I should be taking advantage of, or any special setup I should be doing? I must admit I'm a noob when it comes to audio.

I currently have a comcast box, set to hdmi 2 I believe, an Xbox 360 for gaming on HDMI 4 I believe, and a PS3 for games and Bluray on HDMI 1 I believe.

If anyone can share their settings to help me get the most out of the receiver, I would greatly appreciate it!!

Thanks,

Hello all,

Just got the 609 this week and got it all set up with my DirecTV HDDVR, PS3 and Samsung ln52a750. I've had very few bumps along the way and those I have were answered throughout this thread. (chalk up another one whose Audyssey setup used position 2 as center).

I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue as I'm having. I have the Onkyo setup on my network and have my DHCP reserving an IP so it always has the same address. I'm having no issues accessing Pandora, Napster or DLNA when I am right in front of the receiver using the Onkyo remote.

The problem comes when I am trying to use the OnkyoRemote App for iPhone. It is VERY flaky on connection to the 609. It is supposed to automatically detect the AVR (which it has once or twice) but then the connection fails. I also downloaded a third party app called oRemote that got much better reviews. That one was much more successful and I even controlled the AVR for a minute or two but then I started to get network errors from the app. This is all occurring when the 609 is still streaming audio from Pandora so clearly the connection to the network is fine.

I've tried unplugging the receiver and that helped, but only temporarily.

Any ideas on how to make the Network Control connection more reliable? Or has anyone had any similar problems? I only fiddled for an hour or so last night before I went to bed so I'll do some more playing around tonight after work.

Thanks in advance.
