He ended up giving me a full 4 minutes in a one to one , where he was very effusive and sure of himself on the subject of real time dimensionalization. He bent over and stuck his fingers down the throat.

then I said also very effusively pointing at my eyes : look all our eyes are between 65 to 70 mm apart , do you know how much it cost to develop this Teranex? 20 billion dollars, it,s spy satellite technology.

I (and I imagine many others) would be interested to see how the Teranex would compete against George Lucas' upcoming 3D conversion of the Star Wars films, if you used the soon to be released Blu-Ray versions. Or even better yet, if you had access to the master source.

It's especially interesting because he's well known to be a perfectionist about these kind of things.

Or, maybe George is using this technology !

There are two very difficult type of films for the TERANEX those very heavy CGI's like Avatar and 2012 AND those outer space high contrast. 2001 due to it's extreme contrasts between the white moon and spacecrafts against the darkness of space (or in the case of star wars which I will soon see dimensionalised here at the lab)I don't expect it to be good. George said yesterday that Star Wars is the most expensive 2 to 3 d conversion EVER exceeding the total production budget of the original film. I totally feel your pain Georgie boy, with the extreme contrasts there is going to be a lot of ghostbusting and photoshopping or ghosting going on with it.

But Take a movie like THE THIN RED LINE, whose name escaped me (saying what is the name of that Guadalcanal Heady movie) during my 5 minute argument with Cameron at which point he said : "IF YOU ARE GOING TO TECHNICALLY CONFRONT ME, YOU BETTER COME PREPARED".

That movie and any movies shot with minimal special effects, practically any movie shot in the 50's, 60's, 70's, anything shot with simple video ameras like nature documentaries, concerts, opera, ballet, porno. The TERI KICKS major butt.

Through our associates on the west coast WE ARE GOING TO SHOW JC and all the top producers MY RIG with a 4K, not necessarily as a production implement, but as a quality control quick and painless way to gauge creative decisions in the dimensionalisation process. And also to watch Blu-ray in it's finest form at home.

I have much to share but I will need to relax. As a last point James Cameron showed on a pair of Christie 4K's the same commissioned footage in 3D shot at 60 and 3/2 pulled down to 48 and 24, or maybe it was actually shot at 24. The 60 frame per second blew away 24 and was slightly better than the 48. He will shoot his next avatars like so.

In a slight to SONY 4K which has been around for 5 years (and to the worlds-mostest 6 million dollar Kipnis supreme) JC said "4k projectors are just beginning to become available".

Back on topic, I was wondering why, in this recession, haven't they thought of combining some of the smaller shows to increase attendance.

Obviously, bringing CEDIA and CES together would be a horrendous nightmare. But maybe shows like InfoCon, et al, which I believe are much smaller, would be a better match.

There's so much more opportunity at hand then just increasing attendance numbers too. Remember before Pioneer failed in the TV venture, they brought their departments together to work closer with one another. Same model applies here.

Maybe I just don't know the business well enough...

The best looking kaleidescape blu-rays. The thin red line, where the eagles dare, Imax movies, video concerts of jeff beck, you know regular stuff.

Aghrr the thought of putting in these red eyes flights so frequently is not amusing me in the least bit.

Erhm there's so much to see at NAB, that you should book at least one night in an hotel, Peter. Used to be that people were complaining that NAB only runs for four days, so not enough time to catch up with all the latest stuff.

The NEW Dolby glasses from Owens Corning are the first good pair of glasses I get to try with Dolby.

They claim it hias a SHELF to reduce light seepage in.






Holly Batglasses, the panavision system has a REAL SHELF!

Panavision claims to have higher throughput and lower extinction rates than the Dolby, color fringing was nowhere to be seen.

Thanks oh the sony was Kwai, salt and mystic India, about 16 or 18 wide. Tweaked to the hilt. Wolfgang is more politically correct I side with Cameron on the statement that 4K is just beginning to become available this year.

I am aware of that.

At the same time; Christie also has a booth at NAB at the same floor as the Barco and RED booth. I guess they also want to show some 4K PJ.

German Barco 4K with Novel DMD stray scatter light elimination fabric material. Now why did't I think of that before? Watch that gets added to the next Runco Series.


Nec Ture Grit 4k, the 4k presentations have lost much of the previous weird yellowish pallete on the NEC's it is very good... that is until you see the Christie which is Much Sharper and Uniform optics that come as the result of having a bigger booth.
