Official Panasonic GT30 Series Discussion Thread [No Price Talk] - Page 51

Alright so I'm about to pick one of these sets up within the next week or two and I've got two really big questions to me.

1) How many sets suffer from this fluctuating brightness issue? All? 50%? 1/3rd of 'em? I saw some videos and it looks atrocious & unbareable - certainly couldn't keep a set like that coming off of a set that doesn't have this issue.

2) As I'm aware, Game Mode doesn't reduce lag whatsoever on this set and some of the other modes even better input lag than with Game Mode turned on. So what mode works best for the least amount of input lag an how many ms are we talking? This is vital to me. I guess I should go an add a sub question to this an ask for some good settings specifically for gaming.

Thanks in advance for any help guys!

I'm a gamer too and a bit interested in knowing this as well. Also anyone know if the Avatar promo will come back between now and December?

Can someone please hook me up with a link for the settings to put the tv on while running the break-in slides?

I did a search and I didn't see anything specific for this tv.

Thanks

For what it's worth, I haven't seen a single hint of FBr on my 60GT30 yet in over a week. I'm not saying it's not there for sure, but I have yet to notice it. I say that as someone who had purchased a Samsung PN59D6500 and returned it due to their FBr (or brightness pops) driving me absolutely crazy, so it's not like my eyes are bad, either.

I absolutely love the GT30 so far. I wouldn't even worry about the FBr, since even if you notice it, you can always get it taken care of from Panny.

This is how I feel. Once I learned that Panasonic acknowledged the problem and is taking care of it, this was a no brainer decision.

I love the picture on this set. I just hope there aren't any other surprises...

Assuming you're talking about the slides used to prep the TV for D-Nice's reference settings, search on Google for "2011 Panasonic Settings/Issues Thread."

If you're talking about something else, others will have to help.

Thanks, exactly what I was looking for.

I think I was searching too specific.

The stand I have which has a mount that hold the TV above it, seen here http://www.amazon.com/Techcraft-TRK5.../dp/B000HZF170 will not work right with the GT series. The problem is the speakers which protrude out at the bottom on the set. I never noticed that the bump was there. This will not allow me to attach the arms of the mount all the way down very close to the bottom of the tv so that I can get the right height for viewing as well as have the room under the panel that I need for my equipment and speakers. I was on the TechCraft website looking to see if they sold some type of extension for the main piece that runs vertically up the back of the stand but came up with nothing. So I guess my options are to consider wall mounting (which is tough because the set goes in a corner), live with it as is, or return it (and probably have to pay a restocking fee) for another set that is flat all the way down the back like the Samsung PN59D7000 that I was considering along with this one to begin with. Any advice, suggestions, and comments are appreciated.

I had the same problem when I bought the Walker Edison Regal 60" 4-in-1 TV Stand w. Mount - Wood from Amazon. I had to put a bunch spacers on the top two bolts and less spacers on the bottom two bolts between the frame of the mount and the back panel of my 55GT30. This way I was able to move the bracket all the way to the bottom of the TV. Luckily the Walker Edison had come with a ton of spacers. I've had my 55 mounted this way since the middle of May and it feels pretty solid to me.

For those who have done D-Nice's SM tweak, what do you press to save the settings and exit the SM once you're done changing the values(want to make sure everything is done correctly and saved)?

Follow his directions to the letter. Once done, unplug it.

As far as i know all these panels suffer with FB'rs unless of course they have had the fix applied.

Just wondering anyone in the US seen any localised patches of green in the 10% field patterns?

And what exactly is the fix? Self done or a FW update through Panasonic?

Read back a page for two. This question gets asked over and over, and information is only a couple of pages back at most.

What Smitty say's. Unfortunately here in the UK we are still waiting as it looks like it involves a visit from a Panasonic engineer to either flash the EEPROM or an A Board replacement.

Ah, so from what I read I guess an August build date is your best bet - if not, they'll have to cruise out and fix it for you. Fair enough. I plan on getting my set in the next month at BB, hopefully it'll be an August build. Is there a way to determine the build date outside of the box?

The build date is not on the outside of the box, but the serial number is. One possibility is to ask BB at the store before you take delivery to give you the latest serial numbers they have in stock, and then call Panasonic on your cell phone to see if they can give you the build month. Not sure if this would work or not.

Yes the localized green blobs and patches are fairly common across most models and regions. I've caught a couple NA store display's there were pretty obviously affected. Not sure why you don't see more coverage of the issue in NA, there are some sizable threads on a few foreign AV forums. Lot of people have mentioned the issue in model and owners threads both here and HDJ, but it's quickly ignored or brushed under the rug for some reason. I guess fluctuating brightness is a bigger issue and most people probably don't notice or care about subtle blobs.

I just turn the TV off.

Well you is just crazy!

Seriously, I read in a couple of places that you had to unplug it. Turning it off would certainly be a lot easier for many of us.

After you make the changes they will be saved even by unplugging it? Wouldn't you lose the settings by doing that?
My 65gt30 arrived yesterday. Hour 36 of the slideshow. I can't wait until Saturday.

I don't believe so. As indicated above, I have read a few threads by some seemingly very-knowledgeable people about accessing the SM for various issues, including changing setings, and in each case they end with the instruction to pull the plug.

A good example here of what i am seeing even though this is a G20 and the patches of green on my GT are smaller:

This is the same as mine:

Anyone test out 3rd party 3D glasses?

I saw these on Amazon and was tempted to buy:
http://www.amazon.com/SainSonic-Rech...4271939&sr=1-1

Instead I bought these but I didn't realize there was a 1-2 month shipping wait

Sigh. Received my GT30 via delivery yesterday, and was psyched to start the slideshow. But instead I'm now waiting for returns to contact me to set up an appointment for delivering my replacement.

Wow that's very unfortunate.

I am sure you are beyond pissed off!

Did you notice this before the delivery person(s) left? When my set was delivered (from Amazon) I unpacked it (while they watched), inspected, and powered it up with the remote (while the panel sat in the lower packing box).

Then I had to sign a form stating I had done all that. Of course I did not know about that form until after I had finished all my inspections!

Good luck with your return. There are worse things in life, but that certainly is a bummer.

Nah, I didn't think the freight guys that Panasonic hired would care much. After waiting on hold 30 minutes, the people on the phone were excellent, so I think this will be resolved quickly.

I'm definitely not pleased though...I already had 4 days of panel prep to do, now it's going to be that much again before I can even start the prep!
