hey everybody, got a question on how you guys have your tv's set up when using a receiver. i have a yamaha receiver with hdmi switching. so, is it better to have everything run to the receiver then use 1 hdmi to the tv, or, run everything to the tv and use the optical output to the reciever???

I have an old onkyo 705, i have everything running into receiver and using pass-through hdmi switching. With this new tv, i need to run an optical out now from the TV to the receiver if i want to use the apps on the tv and have it go through the surround sound.

I was one of the people that reported a green blob problem, although I only noticed it during two films ("The Last Picture Show" and "It's Kind of a Funny Story") and I think that it has gone away since then. I don't want to spread misinformation or give false hope, but it may be kind of a "break-in" issue rather than a serious flaw. I'm keeping an eye on it as I go.

I run my Tivo S3, TWC 8300HD DVR, and HDMI DVD Player directly to the TV's 3 HDMI inputs. This enables me to set up optimum separate picture adjustment settings for each specific device.

When you run all your video components through the HDMI-switching AVR then they all have to share that one input's picture setting so one or more of your sources may not look good as the others.

Randy just a question if you run each component to seperate HDMI ports on the tv, how do you achieve audio especially DOLBY HD and DTSHD?

i was reading the manual and there is a digital audio out jack on the tv

Not going to get HD audio through the digital out on the TV's optical port. Only Dolby Digital and DTS.

Certain Blu-ray players have dual HDMI outputs so one can go directly to the TV while the other can connect to the AVR for audio (including HD such as TrueHD and DTS-MA).

Good Points - so if you have a single HDMI output on your DVD player - can you utilize an HDMI split-er to accomplish the same task. I have a 3D capable DVD player that came with my GT30 but a non-compliant 3D AVR. I'd like to send the 3D video signal directly to the GT30 via HDMI as well as preserve the more advanced sound codecs by sending the audio to the AVR via HDMI.

You would need either a 3d avr or a bluray player with 2 HDMI outs.

I run digital/optical cables from my Tivo, 8300, and DVD player directly into my Onkyo 605 surround sound AVR. I don't route my audio through the TV at all.

Hey guys,

New to this thread and have a couple questions.
I looked at the Panny 55GT30 and Sony KDL55NXL Bravia (with gorilla glass) side by side at BB. The whites are not near as bright on the GT30 as on the Sony. However the colors are much deeper on the GT30. I really like the GT30 overall but I'm concerned about the whites on the screen and how they look almost greyish! I know I'm viewing this in a store setting but will I notice this at home? Should I be concerned about this? This will replace my Samsung LN40A750 which now has constant vertical lines moving on the screen what a POS!
Also I've read alot about using the "burn-in" CD-R for the first 100 hours. Is this recomended by Panasonic and if so do they include tools with the TV to accomplish this?

Thanks to all for your replies!!

Luca

Has anyone purchased a 60GT30 from Future Shop in Western Canada? I am ready to jump on this TV but I would really like to know if they have pre or post August builds. Thanks!
I purchased the tcp50gt30 about a month ago. Today I noticed a string of colored pixels running along about 1/4 of the top of panel. It is coming and going.
What is this? Is there anything I can do? Should I return it?

Thanks!

You will get Dobly Digital and DTS, but not Dolby TrueHD or DTS-MA.

When playing back DTS-MA over optical you will get a core DTS signal over optical, not the full DTS-MA signal.

so i am going to get the 55gt30 with the 3d blue ray player that panasonic is throwing in. but my problem is that my receiver is old and is not 3d compatable. so i will be running everything through the tv and using the digital out connection on the back of the tv to my receiver. hopefully that will work ok.
Tomroughan - not sure if it will pass Dolby digital out via the optical port on the gt30. It will pass DD out for the atsc tuner, but will not for viera cast options. I will test it tonight to see.

i copied this from the manual online:

DIGITAL AUDIO OUT terminal
You can enjoy your Home theater by connecting a Dolby Digital (5.1 channel) decoder and “Multi Channel” amplifier to the DIGITAL AUDIO OUT terminals.

Caution
● Depending on your DVD player and DVD-Audio software the copyright protection function may operate and disable optical output.
● When an ATSC channel is selected, the output from the DIGITAL AUDIO OUT jack will be Dolby Digital. When an NTSC channel is selected, the output will be PCM.
● When playing a movie on SD Card Movie player, when the sound has been recorded in Dolby Digital, the output from the DIGITAL AUDIO OUT terminal will be Dolby Digital. When the sound is recorded in other formats, the output will be PCM.

NO reply to my post above about the line of pixels that I am seeing at the very top of the panel? Anyone? Come on guys!
on all sources? what is your overscan sent to.. doesn't sound good to me.. I sometimes see white pixels on atsc stuff because I have overscan set to 0% so you see some of the CC info.

You should never see this on Blu-Ray content. If you see them with Cable /Sat sources, check the Aspect Adjustment setting.

HD size Size 1/Size 2
Selects between 95 % (Size 1) or 100 % (Size 2) for the

scanning area with High-definition signal.

Select Size 1 if noise is generated on the edges of the screen.
Size 1: Selected item for HD size. Scanning 95 % Size 2: Selected item for HD size. Scanning 100 %

Switch aspect to "size 1" and it should go away.

Tested on a DVD and blu ray with the panny bdt-110 - neither output Dolby digital when using the optical out port on the gt30. Worked fine when I hooked optical direct from the 110 to the onkyo. Gt30 sent it as pcm. Messing with the 110 settings had no effect.
