Switching to 1 is better but it is still there. It comes and goes.
This is my second tcp50gt30. The last one after a month had a problem with not turning on and having 7 flashing red lights. It had a board problem and a panel problem. Now this one is just over a month old and I am seeing these pixels at the very top of panel. Both build dates are April. Has anyone else had problems like this? I will try for third time the charm. I was told that I can't request a particular build date, so....

Maybe you can try optical out from the player
to the receiver?

Does it happen with DVD/BD?

Questions: Some of it could be from the source.

Does it do this playing a Blu-ray movie?
What sources do you see it on?
1. Standard definition channels at 4:3 aspect ratio?
2. HD / 1080i Cable or satelite broadcasts?

The reason I ask is because a lot of SD sources in 4:3 will show a band of flickering pixels at the top of the screen. I read about it a while back and it was said that it was something like broadcast information encoded in the signal. Usually zooming or overscaning the picture will hide it though. If yours doesn't go away when overscaned or zoomed I'd say return the set.

Haven't tried DVD yet. I am watching in custom mode. Full screen format and Cable.
I am wondering if there were many problems with the April build date.

The mode doesn't matter, standard, custom, THX or whatever.
Full aspect ratio setting on the TV is good... and you're watching cable... but are you watching HD or SD channels?

You ought to play a Blu-ray disc or DVD and see if the symptom is still there. Like I said before, it could be your cable provider or the broadcast networks you are watching, especially if all you are watching SD channels.

If you see it on a BD or DVD return the set. From what you've said in previous posts I think it's the TV.

Ish.

If it doesn't happen with other sources
it's likely you are seeing the noise at the
edge of the image beyond the so called
"safe zone". CC data is typical and shows
mostly on 4:3 pillarboxed broadcast material.
It looks like a streaming line of alternating
white/black boxes.
I will try it with DVD. I am watching HD in FULL format. The line is not white/black boxes.
It is a line horizontally at very top of green white purple etc....and not really a line, more like lots of little pixels strung together across the screen in a horizontal line if that makes sense.
I'm experiencing a weird issue with a vertical black line a few pixels wide either on the left side of the frame or the right. Sometimes it's there, sometimes it's not. But it's like the whole image is slightly shifted to either the left or right. It seems to be a similar situation to this post:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...8#post20740698

I thought it might have something to do with the Pixel Orbiter, but I have that turned off now. I'm only noticing this on my Tivo feed at the moment. I can change the aspect size to 1 (enable overscan) but then that messes up the settings on my HTPC, besides also cutting out some of the image, and since it doesn't always have that line it isn't always necessary. But it's independent of the program I'm watching. Earlier I was watching the Colbert Report and the line wasn' there. Then I went to rewatch the same episode to check it out and the line was there.

I have a Tivo Premiere being fed via HDMI into an Onkyo 809 which is being output to my 60GT30.

Any ideas?

Pretty much just read the last several posts for the answer.

If you watch at zero overscan, you see garbage occasionally at the margins of the image.

Some of the Tivos have a picture position adjustment in their setup menu--this could help if the fact that it is shifted bothers you.

Thanks for the response. I understand about the overscan, but what's weird is it's not-consistent. Sometimes it's shifted left, sometimes right. Sometimes it's there and then later on the same exact recorded program it's not there.

But it also affects the Tivo Menu and the television menu. While this is happening, if I go into the GT30 menu, it will not be flush against the side. It will also be 5 or so pixels off. I can walk right up to the screen and count which pixels aren't on. However, if I turn the overscan on, they'll fill up. And if I turn overscan off, it'll sometimes use those pixels, sometimes not.

I'll look and see if there's an image shifter on my Tivo. I also wondered if it could be related to my receiver, but the issue doesn't seem to affect my other inputs.

Do you have the pixel-orbiter turned on? Try turning it off, it makes a difference according to a similar discussion on another forum.

Ordered a GT30-50" today from Amazon. It arrives next Wednesday. I can't wait!

Already turned it off unfortunately.

Is anyone having a problem with netflicks only loading 15 movie choices in each category and not being able to search for a movie using veira cast? It's not a deal breaker but I'm very disappointed in this as I bought this tv for its Internet capabilities and feel as if I'm being short changed here. By the way my references are Sony ps3 and wii gaming consoles which both show all 75 choices in a category and allow you to search for a movie title.

Hmmm that sucks. What's the deal with that??
Maybe an update soon?

No idea. I haven't even entered the viera cast in my set. As you do, I use my ps3 for Netflix and any other movie watching. Why people are so hung on these Internet capabilities if newer tvs is beyond me. If you really want Internet capabilities I would say a htpc is the solution.

Because we want a one device that does it all!

Assuming you've disabled the pixel orbiter, then it could also be resolution dependent. For example, 720p signals commonly fill the screen a little differently than 1080i ones will. Even if you set the Tivo to a single resolution, it might still show up depending on how the Tivo is handling it.

Sure!. All in one devices usually tend to suck in everything they do . I rather have separate devices that do each its own thing right!

I have lots of devices that can do streaming. GT30, OPPO BR player, Xbox 360, and Roku 2. Always end up using the Roku. It's always on, no fan noise, very easy to navigate, and does the 'one thing' very nicely. It's so small, you might not even notice it with rest of the gear

Hi,

I have bought a brand new TX-P42GT30 and was looking for some good day/night picture settings.

I have checked the GT30 Settings forum but they all list settings very different from mine... which I don't even have:

1. I don't have the setting "custom"
2. brightness only goes up to "30"

and many others.

Is there something wrong with my display/firmware?

Thanks!

Yes - you are in the wrong thread! There is a difference between the TC (this thread) and the TX unit that you have - here's some more info on your set:http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/panas...1103281070.htm

Well... I knew that TC - US only and TX UK/Europe.
Are there any other differences? specs etc?

I just received my 60 from hhgregg, opened and it's a damn July build. I plan on wall mounting it tomorrow, the only thing I was able to check was the build and the glass. Should I just return it or should I go through the trouble of breaking it in a replacing the board.
My 60gt30 is a June build and I don't have
Fbr and dont plan on doing anything with
it. I'd keep it and see. Who knows--you
might just have a nice set there.

Turn it on and check your numbers in the service menu. My June build already was flashed and no FBr. Some July's were fixed from the factory.

You his might not realize that most devices you have do more than one thing they do many things almost making them closer to the all in one thing that we will see in the future that works perfectly without bugs.
