Will do. What the general time period a static image can be on the screen for burn in? At most, I play Batman on my PS3 for like 45 minutes at at time...

that and possibly a movie with the black bars on top/bottom of screen for a movies length (2-2 1/2 hours).

sorry for the noob question - I'm sure its here somewhere on the site.

What HD Size do you use on your GT30?

I keep swapping between them but haven't really come to a conclusion on which I prefer.

On one hand I like the size 2 100% but don't like the funky border when the pixel orbiter is on.

On the other hand I like the consistent border when size 1 95% is on but dislike the idea of zooming/altering the image.

What are others thoughts on the HD Size setting?
I use size 2 (no overscan, shows 100% of image). I leave the pixel orbiter
disabled as well ( I use THX mode which automatically disables pixel orbiter with size 2 engaged). I use a VP which upconverts everything to 1080p so that way the display doesn't have to process the signal at all.

Even without a VP though, if it were me I'd probably still use size 2. At least then for 1080i sources the display doesn't scale the image.

That's not good. How long do you keep the game on for when playing?

I don't know if there's a general rule of thumb, but I certainly wasn't leaving the same image on the screen for very long especially since races in Forza are very short (<10 minutes), I always had the pixel orbiter on, and I have never used High Panel Brightness with a game. My advice...be paranoid.

The only time I ever use Size 2 is when watching a movie with the pixel orbiter turned off since it's the only time I feel I need the picture quality to be as best as it possibly can be. Anything else, I use Size 1 with orbiter on and use in-game display adjust/PC desktop area to adjust the picture size to fit.

I never saw the pixel orbiter in the menus... where is that exactly?

Setup->Anti image retention->Pixel orbiter. Except when using THX picture mode (where it's disabled automatically), it should be on by default.

Can it be turned on in THX mode, or are you saying it doesn't let you in THX mode?

It can be enabled in THX if you set "HD Size = 1"

Format question.
I have a GT30 60
I play mw3 and use the full setting. I can see it cuts the screen still. Why??

Try setting the screen in the MW3 menu. It will let you crop the picture to fit your TV based on your TV settings.

With all the talk about contrast, brightness etc, what about changes in the white balances (W/B)? I've tried several of the settings listed for either THX (somewhat dim for my peepers) and Custom. However I still get some odd skin tones. I prefer either Cool 1 or 2 and to that extent, some skin tones tend to look like a morgue pic. Perhaps an explanation on WB and the various options?

Thanks!

Update the color luminace firmware 2.1 requires download from panasonic site put on SIm card and slide it ito media slot. Then do the 2.2 firmware update normaly. Makes a hudge differance. I use the D-Nice settings over on HDJunikies and tweek the contrast brightness and color to my liking

Haven't tried blu ray yet although I'll drop in a Planet Earth disc and see how things look

No opportunity to drop in a blu ray disc although I came across some baseball highlights on MLB Network. Outrageous!!! Same for basketball!!! I'm sure the missus will turn around in her opinion of LCD vs Plasma as she's used to the 'pop' in the brightened picture!

Hi all, I have really found the information in this thread and forum very useful and it was influential in my decision to purchase a 55GT30. I absolutely LOVE my new Panny!

I could use some advice though (maybe others have experienced the same issue?)-

I use a PS3 (160GB Slim) for my gaming and BR movies and the first BR movie I watched on my Panny was LOTR- Fellowship of the Ring, which was AWESOME in THX! I then decided to check out the 3D quality of my TV and watched the Lion King in 3D. Unfortunately, about half way through, the movie started to freeze and subsequently 'skipped' quite a bit of the movie before it started to play normally. I didn't know if it was the disc as I watched the movie on my previous LG 47LW5600 (with the PS3 and with no problems with this movie, or any other BR movie BTW).

I then tried a brand new BR disc (LOTR- Twin Towers) and the movie played fine, at first. Sure enough- it started to act up. The movie didn't freeze, but it seemed to be in a 'fast-forward' mode (with no audio). The movie was wide-screen (black bars on top/bottom) so I had to change the format on the TV to get a full screen picture (not sure if this has anything to do with it). Also, I do not have any problems with playing games on my PS3 (and I average about 4 hours/day).

I then plugged my PS3 into my older Panny lcd (1080p/60hz) and had NO problems watching the movie. Which leads me to conclude the issue is with the TV and not my PS3.

I could use some advice as to what possible settings (TV, PS3, or both) that I should try for trouble-free viewing. Thanks!

Posted this in the ST30 forum as well. Feedback from any GT30 owners would be appreciated!

Currently have a 55ST30 in the living room and have enjoyed it (some FBR issues but them seem to be gone now that I have updated the firmware. Did the break in for 100 hours and currently using D-Nice's settings.

About to buy another TV for the gameroom and am tempted by the 55GT30. Price difference is only 200 bucks on Amazon. I know the THX apparently isn't a big deal and I am using a Denon AVR (so no need for the 4th HDMI). Obviously like the asthetics better on the GT.

Anyone own both sets or have any feedback on them at only 200 dollars apart?

Can this be done straight from the Internet to the TV, or does this not have an Internet connection?

The luminance patch (2.1) must be installed via an SD card.
2.1 needs to be loaded via an SD card. It is very easy. Download the file and double click on it like you are opening it. That will extract the zip file. Save the file to a clean (formatted) card and insert. The tech that flashed my FBr firmware onto my tv ( did not change out the A-Board) said the reason 2.1 needs to be loaded with an SD card is that the tv stores the info in a different area. The updates downloaded onto the tv are stored in one spot (board) and the SD card updates ( FBr and 2.1) are stored on another board or area. I am not super techy, but that makes sense. Hope this helps.

Thanks, guys.

Man, I wish they had the FBr fix available to download and update the TV through an SD Card. If all the Panasonic Tech did was to insert an SD Card with the FBr fix, why not make it downloadable like the 2.1 fix.

The story is they don't have the files encrypted which means another company can backward engineer it if they get a hold of it. I think they rushed it out to get the fix out there and didn't take time to encrypt it. So the SD update is only done with a panny rep that signed a non disclosure agreement.

Did I miss something? Have plasmas changed? I have an 8-year-old Panny 6UY and never used slides. I used Avia from the get-go (calibrated by Chad after a year), watched 4:3 when I wanted, and have never had a problem. Are you guys saying that I now take my plasma (plan to buy the 65 by months end) out of the box and use it as is until my 100 hours have passed? Don't use Spears' DVD to adjust anything or I'll ruin the TV? What's going to happen to Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice if they change the brightness or contrast on their TV? What has happened that you now must be a MIT graduate to operate a TV?

What you missed is Dave_O's settings in The Official Panasonic GT30 Settings thread.
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1340522

I started with James Cameron's settings for the 3D version of Avatar then found the thread with Dave_O's settings. Started watching programming and movies right out of the box
