Hold the phone... I'm getting confused. There's two updates -

There's a 2.1 update:
http://panasonic.jp/support/global/c.../down_pro.html
(Description: 1. 1.Change professional color setting.)

&

There's a 2.2 update:
http://shop.panasonic.com/shop/model...s&support#tabs

Whats the difference? Does the 2.2 cover the color setting update?
Is it the Fb fix?

I'm a bit confused.... thanks.

The 2.1 Luminance Patch can only be loaded by user via SD card or USB, and a s I understand it is designed for professional calibrators making Service menu adjustments to the gray scale. that being said - I, and many others on this forum have installed the patch themselves with no negative consequences.

The 2.2 firmware update is designed to be installed after the 2.1 luminance patch and can be done via your internet connection and produces a very nice image when matched with Dave O's settings referenced elsewhere in this thread

^ Thanks. What is the purpose of the 2.2 update though? There's no official desciption? How does it improve IQ? And also, is it a brightness fluxuation fix?

Thanks.

Stupid question, but upon getting my TV, how do I see what firmware is currently installed?

Arthur stupid question for you, you do have the HDMI cable plugged into the correct HDMI ports for ARC correct? And the amp is set to AV4 correct? (I think thats the default input)

Has to be something simple but so far I haven't hit on it.

As I suspected. When I swapped cables running from my receiver to the TV, I plugged the new one into the slot next to my BD player slot.

Let me ask once again. If I have a June build date, do I still install the 2.1 and 2.2 updates? Thanks.

Based on this link: http://shop.panasonic.com/shop/model...s&support#tabs the 2.2 firmware helps connect problems with Vierra Connect. It's debatable whether the update will improve anybody's IQ, however the PQ on these plasmas is most excellent!
The Brightness Fluctuation problem (if it exists in your panel) can only be fixed by either a Panasonic technician replacing your "A" Board or providing an SD card based revison. Contact Panasonic customer service if your have a FB problem.

Glad to hear you resolved your problem - your reference to a June build date probably means you have a question regarding Fluctuating Brightness - are you experiencing and FB symptoms? Apparently Panasonic made corrections to panels produced in August and some pre-August production units either don't exhibit FBr problems, or had a factory installed fix before they shipped. Search the thread for more info on model numbers/production dates.

You can certainly install 2.1 & 2.2 if you have no FBr issues.

Well, unfortunately had Ceva come out today to give me replacement 50gt30 and said they didn't have orders to pick up the defective unit. I initially thought okay, well drop this one off and we'll box up the other and I'll give Amazon a call back. But, upon opening the new box noticed build date was actually april (one month earlier than one it was replacing). Oh well, no biggie, what I really wanted to make sure of is that it didn't exhibit same buzzing issues as first one. As they were taking tv out of box one of em yanked the power cord off the back (pulled the plastic tie down out of the hole) and it bent a bit of the metal back of the tv. That made me think harder and I just said pack it back up and send it to Amazon - refused delivery - didn't need two of these around my house anyway. Called Amazon and told them I'd just take a refund. So back to figuring out what to do next. Oh and Amazon was great throughout all of this - Kudos to great Customer Service.

I wouldn't give up - the GT30 is a great set, and you should still be able to get a good deal before the 2012's arrive. Why not ask Amazon to send you another one?

I have a May 2011 build on my 55GT30. I have noticed the FB issue for months and it finally bothered me enough last week when I was layed up for a few days due to surgery and watched a lot of tv. Called Panasonic cust. service today and was pleasantly surprised by the ease of getting an appointment for this problem. I thought they would ask more technical questions than they did. All the first person I spoke to asked was if I had CATS off, what mode I normally watched in and what software revision I had. Hopefully it goes well next week.

Question for the experts: I have my Bluray movies on a hard drive playing through a WDTV via hdmi. When playing Dark Knight, in the beginning series robbing the bank, when the camera zooms in or pans, the buildings are strobing on the screen. 3:2 pulldown is greyed out so I can't tweak that. Any guesses on how to fix this. I have noticed it on a few other movies as well such as Braveheart. I see it on THX mode and custom mode. When I hook the WDTV up to my 55" Sony LED, there is smooth panning, no judder or strobing.... Any thoughts?

I went through two 60GT30's and both were early builds with FBr. Panasonic was back-ordered more than 30-days on boards, so they both went back to Amazon. Before I sent back the second one I chatted with Amazon. I decided to buy a 65GT30 as the price had come down. They sent out the 65GT30 and picked up the 60GT30 at the same time. Then, my local Fry's had the 65GT30 on sale for $245 cheaper. It was within 14-days and Amazon gave me a credit. Panny sent a real Panny tech out with an SD card within a week to flash it. We installed 2.1 off an SD card that I had and then 2.2. Last week DeWayne (aka D-Nice) came out to calibrate it. It took three hours as the FBr fix reset some service menu settings. He was very thorough and the picture came out beautiful. Thanks again DeWayne. He was a true pro and would not give up on it, as it was being a PITA. Family and friends have been over since and cannot believe the PQ. I have Verizon coming out Saturday to install FiOS. I think the GT30's look great. I am going to get a smaller version for our office to hang on the wall. Do not give up on this tv, as I am glad I did not.

Question on TV sound from AVR

I set up the set and everything yesterday doing noting to the Yamaha 667 but pluggng in the HDMI cable from it to the back of the set into "HDMI 1 ARC". For the life of me I cannot get any sound from the TV speakers. No problem with the picture from AT&T, Blu-Ray or Xbox. And no sound issues on the Yamaha. ACR is enabled and like I said I made no changes to the rec'r on the back or in the setup. I even programed the AT&T remote so to turn the TV on and off and nothing. I've unplugged the TV and HDMI and plugged it back up and nothing. I'm at a lose as why?

My 55" is being delivered tomorrow between 10 and 2. Hoping for a later build date, but I am not going to stress about that. I will be happy with no buzzing, no cracks and no color blobs.

I will report back when I have given it the once over. I am really looking forward to getting the TV.

Have you gone into the menu and checked your audio settings? Your external speakers may be turned off.

That I did not check and without sounding too stupid are you refering to the side controls or something else in the back itself?

I recently received a may build 60gt30 with no issues at all. So I wouldn't worry about it. Just set it up and enjoy it.

There are no buttons on the back or side of the TV to turn the speakers off.

In the TV's advanced audio menu, is the HDMI setting set to DIGITAL? It has to be set to Digital to get audio over HDMI.

Otherwise, maybe it has something to do with the TV's Viera Link HDAVI settings?

Disregard my now deleted post.

When you go to the menu, audio is the second one down; it’s a music symbol. There you will find a setting to turn your TV speakers on or off.

Aliens, is that where I can toggle the TV speakers on/off so my wife can use the TV without having to fuzz with the Receiver?

WIRELESS PROBLEM -

- I have wifi in my house and everything connects with ease... my 3 notebooks, android phones, and touchpad... but my GT30 says it cannot find the network?

all the ovbious things are done right (password, etc....) but when it searches for the network, it never connects.

Anyone? I have the USB/Antenna pluged into the back middle USB hub of the TV. Thats the correct one to use, no?

On my GT 30 I connect the wi-fi dongle (there are two pieces that need to be connected to construct the dongle) to a USB port on the side of the TV. Everything works fine with this arrangement.

My 55GT30 is supposed to arrive between 8am and 11am today. I got a call from the driver that he is running late and he should be here around 12:30. I hope it's a post August build.

Yes. My wife says if I die my entertainment room will be useless to her.

My 50GT30 just arrived from Amazon! It has an April build but I'm going to remain optimistic until I run some tests on it. It was delivered upright and physically inspected prior to the delivery driver departing. The TV is very cold so I'm assuming it's best to let it warm up before I turn it on and start playing around, correct?

Like ggsantafe said, be sure to use that USB dongle "base" (for lack of a better or proper term). I tried just using the dongle right into the USB port and it wouldn't work. Then once it's hooked up go through the set-up again and it should work.

You should be fine. The manual gives these numbers for safe operation:

Temperature: 32 °F - 104 °F
Humidity: 20 % - 80 % RH

Interesting, I use the WIFI dongle in my side port w/o the base. It makes no difference if I use it or not, works fine both ways. My router is in the next room, tv is 50ST.
