One negative I guess is they are not rechargeable. I'll get them soon. I won't have anything to compare though since its my first and only 3D glasses bought.

I take it back that it was the Optoma glasses that were my second choice...it was the True Depth. The reviews looked and seem good overall from different TV owners. The True depth and 3Active seem similar except fo the one big thing...3Active is rechargable. Keep us posted on the findings.

Then i happened to be poking around Panasonic's Canadian site and spotted the word "Schematics", clicked on it, and was pleasantly shocked to discover that measurement. I'd looked everywhere to no avail. You'd think that Panasonic would have this info on their USA site, but for some reason they do not.

I'm glad i found the existence of these schematics because it turned out that i had to lower my wall bracket about 4 inches to keep the G10 at the same height over my credenza because the G10's lower holes are 4" different than on the PZ700U it replaced.

To find a schematic for a particular model, go to Panasonic's Canadian site, choose the model number of the TV you're curious about, and when you land on that TV's page look for the Schematics button under the Specifications button.

Isn't the link you provided exactly the same as the specs sheet in the last few pages of the manual?

My TV is a July build and I haven't seen any FB issues as of yet. The 3D viewing seems much brighter than what I had noticed on a family members Sony. Also no flickering whatsoever.

Now the problem: Had the Father-in-Law over this evening to let him sample the "fish scene" from the Under the Sea. He was impressed by the way...The problem was I noticed while booting up that my pair of glasses took for ever to sync to the TV. After they finally did, they would play for a few seconds to maybe 30 second and then loose the 3d signal. I looked at the light and it was flashing every two seconds, so they were definately on. I then took them off and moved them toward the TV and the glasses would sync back up. After a few seconds they would loose sync again. The other pair works fine.

Does anyone have any suggestions or should I call Panasonic or BB for replacement glasses. My setup so far: 55in. Mounted on the wall. I dont have cables in the wall as of yet. Viewing distance is 9.5-10 feet. I also have the charging cables hanging from the usb ports on the tv, this is temporary, could these or the hdmi cables be interfering since they are hanging and not tucked away? I don't know...

Same thing happened to me and it wasn't the glasses.. My suggestion before doing anything else would be to check the manual for where the 3D glasses signal receiver is and make sure there isn't anything between it and you (i.e. the glasses). In my case I had a speaker blocking the signal.

It isn't just someone else's preferences. We are talking about industry standards that will allow you to view the image as intended by whoever created it. To allow for colors, tones, and details to be replicated as closely to the source as possible.

The ultimate goal is to see what the director of the film wants us to see. It's an integral part of the story the director is trying to tell.

Would you say Panasonic is being negligent by not providing an "industry standard" setting built into the TV?

That applies to your BD input more than anything. Its also a good starting point for adjusting your TV input, because when it comes to TV viewing, all things are not created equal. That’s where you tweak the TV to your liking, not that you can't do the same to the BD input.

My plans are to pro calibrate like I did my previous plasma.

No it is not the same. The operating manual does not show the measurement between the bottom of the TV and the lower mounting hole, while the Canadian spec sheet does show this measurement. This is the measurement he was looking for, and it isn't in the manual.

...no...that is not accurate in the least.

No it is not. Did you look at both the manual and what Randy linked to? Apparently not.

the online manual has an addendum at the end of it with the exact same spec sheet.. am I wrong about that?

I just went to Panasonic's website and viewed the manual and downloaded it as well and there is no such addendum, and that bottom measurement doesn't appear anywhere in the manual.

What link are you using to see this addendum?

My bad! The 50 and 55 inch manual has the specs sheet added at the end but the 60 and 65 manual inexplicably doesn't.

See:

Apologies...

I have my BD input calibrated and I leave it, regardless. But now that I have a new plasma and I'm seeing bright colors I'm not used to seeing, I find that I'm more likely to pick up the remote and tweak it when I go from one satellite station to another. I'm sure somewhere along the line I'll find that happy medium and that'll be it. But at this point I'm still tweaking with the settings that I have calibrated for the TV input.

Good idea, but there is nothing under it blocking the signal. Today I mounted all cables into the wall and that 1 pair of glasses still flashes on and off. The other pair works fine.

Good idea, but there is nothing under the TV blocking the view. I even mounted all the wires and cables into the wall today and the one pair of glasses is still flashing on and off, the other pair is working fine. Other than that I just installed the 2.1 firmware and adjusted to Dave-O's recommendations=wonderful-tastic

I got the glasses and took them for a spin watching the Tron Legacy 3D Blu-Ray on my PS3. I have to say that I was impressed.

Then I went to Starz 3D on demand to watch Gnomeo and Juliet (GF's choice). That movie looked great but I noticed the glasses/3D kept going off and on. I didn't notice that with Tron but that movie is much darker and not all of it is shot in 3D so maybe it's not as noticeable.

Then I realized that the Xbox Kinect I have in the middle of the TV might be partially blocking the signal. I removed the Kinnect and went back watched the same scenes from Gnomeo and Juliet again and the glasses worked without the 3D shutting off.

I going to be watching 3D throughout the week to make sure I don't run into this syncing issue.

So far the glasses feel comfortable for the small amount of time I had them on. I wish they had a status light that indicated it was on though. Especially with the issues of the 3D going in and out.

Just got it unboxed. December 2011 build! Also no cracked screen! I had to run back to work but I will hook it up tonight and see how it goes.

Hi there. I just bought a 50GT30 from Amazon Warehouse deals (used but like new) for a great price. However, the TV did not come with the "breakout" cables necessary for connecting component, composite, pc, etc. Are these cables supposed to be included?

I could not find them for sale on Amazon or Panasonic.com. This is disappointing because I cannot hook up my Wii or older XBOX 360. It seems the guy who returned the TV "forgot" to put these cables back in the box.

Thanks
Josh

I suggest calling Amazon Customer service - if their original description indicated that all original accessories are included (owners manual, remote, wi-fi dongle, etc.) then I'm pretty confident that they will take care of you - if not send me a PM and I'll send you my unused connecting cables.

If you got the manual with it then on page 11 it shows the "adapters" that come with it so you can connect composite and component cables. The set does not come with a full set like older sets use to do if that's what you're asking. By the way congrads on the set; you'll like it. We sure like our 55" GT30

@ggsantafe:
I called Amazon already, the rep couldn't really help me out. I tried explaining that the cables should come with the TV and she was understanding, but because they aren't an item for sale on Amazon she couldn't really help me out much. She did say that if I could find them for sale elsewhere that they would reimburse me but I haven't found them yet. I'll send you a PM if I can't get this resolved otherwise.

@Dr.DTS:
The cables in question are on page 11 of the manual, there are six of them, and none were in the box. I find it peculiar that the previous owner kept them.

I do enjoy the TV, great picture. I am concerned about the warranty though. Because it was a returned TV and sold as used but like new, the Panasonic warranty is void. The build date is April 2011 and I've heard these are more prone to problems. I have noticed what I assume to be fluctuating brightness so I am sure it will need warranty service. I could get a squaretrade warranty specifically for open box TVs for 45 bucks and hope they will take care of the issue like Panasonic has, but I don't know if they will. This like new open box was 350 cheaper than new, so I couldn't pass it up.

I was really hoping someone who owns a Panasonic TC-P65GT30 (or any other size) can please let me know if mkv files are playable via USB?

I need to make a purchase ASAP, deciding between the Panasonic TC-P65GT30 and a Samsung PN64D7000 (which I know plays back mkv files via USB).

I need to send back my Samsung PN63C550 this week and I want to get something ordered so I'll have a TV in my family room.

Samsung refunded my original payment of $2,000.00, so I have those funds available, plus I'm willing to put in an extra $200 max. I just got an email alert saying the TC-P65GT30 dropped to $2,199.98 on Amazon (all time low). The PN64D7000 can be had for $2,139.43 right now.

I used to be a Panasonic fan all the way, first 3 plasma's I ever bought were Panasonic's, but I've grown attached to the USB playback functionality of the Samsung's and playback of MKV files is a necessity.

I cannot find an answer through Google searches if the Panasonic plasma also playback MKV files via USB? I found one article that said they will, but only with flash sticks, and not via external hard drives, which is what I use........... a Western Digital 1 TB My Passport external.

So for those who can help me out, I'd really appreciate it. I want to pull the trigger on this today (2/3/2012).

And for those of you who suggest "just wait for the 2012 models", I'd love to, but I can't go without a TV for another couple months, plus those will all be at full MSRP when they come out, which would mean somewhere in the range of $3,500+

I would say Panasonic's "media file" playback capabilities are somewhat limited, so it will definitely depend on what codec was used inside your .mkv.
I just tried two x.264 clips from a usb hdd, one wouldn't play at all and the other would play, but was jerky and no audio. Both clips played back fine when connected to my OPPO BD-93. According to the program "MediaInfo" it looks like both files were created by mkvmerge from BD rips (AVC), codec ID = V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC.

I would say dont bet on it with panny keeping up on the various codecs of mkv. Use a WDTV Live like I do and that way you are never dissappointed. One thing that pisses me off was that you cannot plug a powered USB in the TV. Most good quality .mkv moves are between 8-12 gig.

I couldnt see mkv files in DLNA either - I may test some mkvs on a stick if i can find one large enough around home to do it.

Are you close to a store that has a GT30 model? Go in there and try it yourself I would say. Hope this helps.
