[quote=RandyWalters;21775379]That model isn't sold in North America so we won't be of much help. We can't use hard drives with our TVs here.

Thanks for your reply. I'll try to post this question in UK forum

I posted the following on Satellite Guys forum late yesterday and this morning, and as yet haven’t resolved the issue.

When I switch from channel to channel on my E* 622 receiver, I will first get a gray screen, then it will flash to the usual black before the channel tunes in. Try it again and I may get a 4:3 image (black, with gray bars on both sides) flash to gray (sometimes), then to black (sometimes), to finally being tuned in. This started last night. I’ve tried 3 inputs on my TV and I’ve swapped the HDMI cable. This does not happen when I use my TVs coax input for OTA. I rebooted with no affect.

I tried OTA through the 622 this morning and it did the same thing. Also, satellite channels were doing it consistently this morning.

Now this was really weird. While watching MSNBC this morning, there was a promo for Showtime, it went to 4:3 with gray bars on the side, and when that finished, the screen went to gray then back to Morning Joe. So in this instance it wasn’t a channel change, it happened during a commercial break.

After owning the TV for over a month, if it were a handshake issue, why would it show up now, and be sporadic at that? And between commercial breaks? This is really puzzling.

I have the 50" GT30 hooked up to a Dishnetwork VIP722 thru a AVR using HDMI connections and have not experienced the problem you are having. I have experienced odd performance at times from the 722, but it occurs on my secondary HDTV as well, and the solution that works for me is to reboot the satellite receiver, but you already did that. You could try a hard reboot on your satellite receiver by pulling the plug for 20 seconds.

I was signing on this morning to delete that post, but since you responded I'll explain what happened so that maybe someone in the future won't do what I did. I believe there is only one mode on the GT30 where you can get the gray bars on the side, why this is is beyond me. I was watching a SD channel with black bars, and in an effort to get gray bars; I toggled through the Dish format button on the remote until I found them. With Dish this is called the gray bar mode. Once I finished the program, I forgot to switch the format to normal, so what was happening was the GT30, set to normal mode, had to convert the Dish format, gray bars, to normal mode. That was why I was seeing the flashing of gray on the screen. It was while I was watching the same SD channel last night that it occurred to me what I had done.

Talking about the fizzy text on HDMI - see my updated post. Disable pixel orbiter shift and this goes away it seems.

I've noticed this also. Mainly on my St30. Haven't really noticed it on my gt30, but maybe I'm just used to it. It's not a deal breaker to me. But, yeah, it almost seems like it takes the panel a second to figure things out. I'm sure it's something inherent in the technology being used. Maybe others can chime in if they notice this or not with a PC on HDMI. Wonder if using VGA would eliminate this.

I think you're talking about line bleed?
Yes

BTW I setup a return..going to get a ST50

I have a 60" GT30 and love it.
It never came with any 3d glasses, so now I am looking at getting myself some.
Can anyone recommend some and will the Sony PS3 compatible glasses work? I have 2 Sony tv's that I can interchange with.

For what it's worth I just saw detailed pictures of the new ST/GT/VT sets on Panasonic's website and I have to say that I really don't like the cosmetics of the new ST design. They have blatantly copied Samsung's goofy glass/plastic strip surrounding the black bezel which just looks cheap to me. Yeah, probably better than last years really cheap looking black plastic on the ST30, but to my eyes not even close to the appearance of the GT30. And from what I can see in the photos the design of the GT50 looks almost identical to the GT30. I know the PQ is the most important thing, and I'm sure the ST50 will rock, but I still have to look at the industrial design of the set, and for me the GT30 is the best design by anbody of the last few years (including the VT series which actually has a larger "bezel" when turned on). It looks classy, expensive, and minimalist, which for me are the perfect design priorities. And, oh yeah, the picture is pretty good too !!!

It won't matter what the new sets look like or do since we're more than content with our two month old 55" GT30. No more TV Shopping for me...at least for awhile.

Never thought about that. Unfortunately, the one place I would def want PO on is when I'm using the PC.

I've tried both the new Panny glasses and the ps3 ones and both worked great. The Panny's are smaller/lighter, but if you wear prescription glasses like me, the ps3 glasses are great.

I went to best buy the other day and the experts there told me that you have to use Panasonic glasses only as it is the tv that dictates the 3d not the device. Thanks for clarifying it for me.

They be lying to you. The ps3 glasses work fine. Whether you like their design and fit is up to you. When it comes to things like this you just have to buy a pair and try them out.

I have a tc65gt30 and every now and then I see a red line that goes across the screen for a split second. This has happened when my tivo and ps3 were the sources. I have a 30 foot 22 awg hdmi cable from mono price and a 90 degree adapter that goes from the source to the tv. Thishappenswith eithersource. Has anyone had this happen to them? I'm trying to figure out it is the cable or tv.

I brought a couple home and they work great. I quickly realized that the reason they work at best buy is not because they are brain surgeons....

True.

But you get what you pay for.

I have a 50" GT30 and use the DirecTV HR24 series DVR connected via HDMI.

I have had the set for about 5 months now.

Despite following all DNice burn-in and DYI calibration process, I seem to be having some issues with what I would describe to be "slight pre-burn-in" of some station logos on my set when watching a channel for 3 or 4 hours.

So far, I have been pretty drarn lucky and they have not done any premant damage to my set, but because I watch a lot of hockey, if I were to get something burned into the set, it is very visiable.

Example the ESPN logo and the logo on the NHL Channel seem to be two of the worst.

Can anyone make any tips or suggestions beyond not watching those channels that might help prevent potential burn-in of these logos?

Thanks!

My advice would be to not worry as this sort of thing is very common on these sets and doesn't seem likely to produce anything permanent over time.

Do you have Pixel Orbiter enabled? It is not much but every little bit helps.

I took the leap today and bought the 65GT30 from Amazon. The price was too good to pass up and I was afraid that they would be sold out if I waited any longer for a better price. Paying no tax and getting free shipping is an added bonus. I bought a 60in Sharp 633 series from Costco about a month back and I have not been happy with it. Having issues with uneven backlighting, motion artifacts, blurring, stuttering with sports... I mean the colors popped and the blacks looked pretty good... but the problems with the edge-lit LED backlighting really really turned me off. I'm going to compare the two and see which one I like and return the other... luckily Costco has a 90 day return policy.

Anyone with recommendations or a similar situation? What did you decide to do? What do you think about my choices? My only concern is that this will be going in my living room which has a west facing wall which has windows and a walk-out to the deck all long the wall and I was planning on having my TV in the corner across from that wall... I have blinds that I can close, but there is still a decent amount of daylight that comes in... That's my only issue so far and I hope that the glare isn't too bad!

The only problem is that these "logos" show up on the white ice when I am watching hockey and it is quite distracting.

Quick question - i know the 65" GT30 has the very thick bezel...does the 60" as well?

My 60gt30 faces west as well with glass doors and windows. We have those worthless wood window coverings on them and the glare isn't bad.

Not sure I'd call it "very thick", and its virtually flush with the screen which makes it pretty unobtrusive. Perhaps the 60 is somewhat smaller than the 65, not sure. The VT30 has the one-sheet-of-glass look but actually has a larger "bezel" when the TV is on, and the ST30 is much wider than the GT, so to me the GT30 is the best of the bunch. And that does not appear to change much on the new 2012 designs in which the GT & VT look the same as 2011 and the ST copied the Samsung design which I loathe.

Amen brother. My last TV until you can buy a 65 or 70 inch 4K reso OLED for $2K, which I am guessing will be around Christmas 2016. My 65GT30 has proved to me that no TV (at least to my non-expert eyes) is worth more than $2K.

The 50" has a bezel that's less than an inch wide. The 65" has a bezel that's over an inch. I own the 50gt30 and love its look. The 65" has a massive bezel that makes it roughly 2" wider than the Samsung PN64D7000

After spending a month or so researching TVs, and concluding there was no perfect set in my price range, I bought a 50" GT30. I refuse to read how much better the GT or ST 50s are. I got a pretty good Black Friday deal, but still am of modest means and a new TV is something I can't afford to upgrade just because the new model comes out. As far as my wife's concerned, I, I mean we, don't get a new TV unless this one explodes. As with all electronics we'll always be thinking "if I had only waited for the new model, I would have something they worked all the bugs out of". Fergetaboutit!
