The third-party came and replaced my A-board today; it took about 30 minutes. I copied all of my settings beforehand and did the 2.1 & 2.2 updates when they were finished. Will now await my pro-calibration.

I noticed this TV doesn't have a horizontal or vertical adjustment except in PC mode. That seems odd. I assume you can access it through the service menu but that doesn't help the typical owner who would freak at the thought of going there.

I currently own the Pioneer PRO141 and use that as my primary TV but am moving into a larger house and need more TV's. I bought a Samsung 59D8000 at a price I couldn't pass up to put in my Bedroom, but now I am leaning towards the moving the Pioneer to the Bedroom and a 65" for the Great Room. Do you think the 65" GT will live up to the Pioneer that I am use to watching? Again can get a great price on this model, only a couple hundred more than Samsung Any Suggestions?
Caudio, I can't say how the GT will compare to the Pioneer side by side but I just picked up a 65GT a few weeks ago and love the TV and picture.....maybe it's best to sometime forget comparing and just enjoy.

Just thought I'd chime in and say my new 50ST50 does NOT have this issue. I'm extremely pleased that I returned the GT30 for the ST50, which only cost $130 more.

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a 50gt30 and I was trying to configure it but when i go to menu i only can't find the custom setting only "Dynamic", "Normal", "Cinema", "THX", "GAME" and "PHOTO", and my contrast only goes to 60.

What am I missing?

Thanks

I have a question.

I have a 65gt30 and an panasonic bdp320 The issue I am having is that when I put in the dark knight on blu ray some scenes are in fullscreen and some screens are in 16:9. How to I get it to be stationary at either full screen or 16:9 w/o jumping back and forth between aspect ratios?

Hehehe...Thats not the tv's doing,Thats the way the BD is encoded, the 16:9 scenes are the Imax scenes like you would see at the theater.Check the top menu in your bd player to see if a standard 2:40 aspect is available..

I believe your tv is a euro version. We don't have some of the modes that your tv does. Here in the states all the modes go to 100 contrast.

Although we do have some euro members you might try posting your question at avforums.com to get more hits if you don't get any here since it's euro based.

ok, so i finally unboxed and set up the 55GT30 that i received from Amazon earlier this week. i must say, i love the set so far, but there is one thing about it that bothers me other than the poor placement of the audio/video jacks in the back of the set. that is the fact that for some reason it seems to lean back on the tv stand. the floor isn't perfectly level, and the stand doesn't have adjustable feet to accommodate for uneven flooring, but the stand leans back a slight bit and the tv definitely leans back more than the stand. i tightened all of the bolts for the base while the tv was on the stand and all of the weight was on the base, but there didn't seem like there was any play in the base so i doubt that if i had someone elevate the tv while i tightened the 4 screws it would have made a difference. i know it probably sounds silly, but this does bother me because it's definitely noticeable when you look at it from the side, does anyone else have this issue?! i know the tv isn't a lightweight, but i don't think that's the reason it's happening...

Why dont you just buy a good wall mount for a cheap price @ monoprice or amazon and hang that baby on the wall. These sets look real sweet wall mounted..

You can use the securing straps like these (http://www.amazon.com/Ready-America-.../dp/B001132UEE) to secure your TV and make sure it does not lean. And perhaps put something under the base to level it out to your liking when it's secured to your cabinet/stand. Or if circumstances allow just mount it on the wall. I have 2 small children so for safety reasons and because I have uneven floor in the media room so I just mounted it on the wall and I am very pleased with results.

I have another question.

I have about 450 hours now on my 65GT30 and I swear the colors are better every day.

When can I stop worrying about image retention? Is it OK to watch a couple of movies in a row which are in letterbox?

the wall behind the tv doesn't cover all of the space behind the tv, because there's an open staircase with a railing behind it, that leads to the upstairs. i was never going to wall mount it, but i was going to originally mount it on a stand. that plan kinda went south when i was having problems finding a mountable stand that was both wide enough to cover the 51" wide tv, AND be able to fit my Pioneer 1014 that i've been using for my HTS since 2005...

and as far as the strap goes, the display is leaning back not forward, so that wouldn't help at all. but thanks for the suggestion...

i'm gonna see if one of my friends can come over this weekend and give me a hand with it. if worse comes to worse, i guess i could just shim back of the stand with something to even it out, and i don't have any children or pets so it should be fine...

You may want to check the four screws that are securing the base to the TV. If the 55GT has a mount anything like the 65GT, it would tilt backwards like you describe if the bottom screws were not tightened all the way. I would loosen all of the screws and then re-tighten in an even fashion, like you would the lug nuts on a car.

I am trying to decide between a 46" GT30 plasma (txp46gt30) and a 47" LG LED (47lw450u) - both are approximately the same price, around £650 (that's about $1100 USD). Both are older models - so about half the price of 2012 TV's.

I've seen a 42" version of the LG led TV and it looked pretty good, IPS panel. Could have been a bit brighter - the Samsung ES8000 next to it looked as bright as the sun. Haven't seen the panny GT30 in real life.

Which one of the two would you go for and why? Or are there any recommendations in the same price range?

I would take the plasma if the room was light controlled. Otherwise the LCD if the room was brightly lit with a lot of windows. Light not being a factor, I can tell you I prefer my GT30 over my Samsung or LG Lad's.

Yup, from my readings it basically comes down to brightness of room. A plasma won't look as good in a bright room but in a Les than bright room it looks excellent. I love mine!! If you have a bright and sunny room you might be more happy with led

+1. I have had my GT30 for about six weeks now and in a dimly lit room (including daytime with a little sunlight coming through plantation shutters) it looks fantastic. If I really let a lot of light in the room then it doesn't cope as well as my old Sony LCD (not as bright an much more reflective screen). Pretty much all comes down to how bright the room is at the times you watch the most TV. For me not a problem since most of my viewing is at night.

Simplest starting point for out of the box settings for a decent picture is THX mode with the following settings:

Contrast 75
Brightness 53
Color 47
Sharpness 20
Color Temp Normal or Warm1
All other setttings at their THX default

Then tweak to your personal preferences. Enjoy your new TV dude.

If you going to put shimmy the TV, I'd suggest the straps anyway to make sure it is still secured. You can strap to either a stand or to the wall.

Another suggestion is something like this http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20117674.

Well, after doing the 100 hour prep for my 55GT30, following the settings in post #3 and trying to brighten up the picture with my own settings, I just can't get it bright enough. The room is south facing and gets a lot of light. We do have blinds but daytime viewing is just not working. I must say, night time viewing is very good especially when watching Avatar Bluray but I'm thinking about going with either the new Sharp 70" LCD LED or the new Samsung 65" LCD LED. Anyone else in my situation? Does anyone have theirs in a bright room and what are your settings? Thanks in advance

You might want to take a look in here, there's some bright room settings from members.

I checked over on the settings thread before consulting with you here already. Didn't find any "bright rooms settings". Not sure what do do now. Very tempted to return for a brighter LCD LED for my bright room. What a shame, I love the picture at night. Anybody else? Thanks

Here is my setup:

AV Closet: (~50' away from the TV-cable wise)
Pioneer VSX-53
PS3
TIVO
Xbox 360

Cables:
Primary HDMI - 22 AWG "Premium HDMI- Monoprice"
Secondary HDMI - 24AWG "HDMI w/ Ethernet"

Display:
Panasonic GT30 65'

With the exception of the extra length, it should be comparable.

*** Update ***

I just tested the 65GT30 last night w/ the Monoprice "Premium" 22AWG cable @ 50ft length.

Due to the length of my HDMI cable, the signal would not reach my GT30 w/out a signal booster. I went with the Tripp Lite B122-000-60 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...00_i00_details

This solved my signal issue. I used a PS3 as my source and never once saw red lines.

Have you tried to eliminate the 90 degree bend? How about amplifying the signal?

I tried another cable but it is a 26 awg and the first one that I had was a 22 awg. I replaced the 90* connector with another (I bought 2 just in case I needed them) and I am still getting the red line across the screen. I am going to try to reduce the resolution to see if it is a bandwidth issue due to the cable length. If that does not do the trick I think I will be having Panasonic take a look at it. It is a single red line that always appears in the same spot on the tv.

I have not tried a booster and I hope I don't need one. What was happening to your signal that made you get a booster?

Just wanted to say thanks, your posts help me choose the GT30 over the ST30 for may parents (did the shopping for them). The main reason being, like you have said before, the difference in design, which I am sure my mom wouldn't mind shelling out the extra little cash for. Everything else is just icing on the cake. Thanks again.

From my understanding, the main time you need to worry about is the first 100 or so hours, but I am not expert.
