According to the specs listed on a couple of sites the 735 has Aquomotion 240.

I am curious about one thing. I assume the "native" resolution of the 732 is 1080p? If so, does it have a "good" internal scaler that up-converts all signals to the native resolution? The internal scaler on my Sony does quite a good job with the up-conversion, it makes 480i look acceptable.
Your assumption is correct--the Sharp will upscale everything to 1080p, just like your A3000. The scaler is quite good.

That being said, your Sony's light engine optically combines the image from 3 separate chips and projects it onto the back of the screen via lenses and mirrors. Inevitably the focus and convergence are a tiny bit shy of perfect so it's somewhat softer and thus a little more forgiving of non-HD signals than a set consisting of one "giant" chip that you're viewing directly. That and the extra screen size will probably detract a little from the SD performance vs your old set.

Most Sears stores run their store feeds over two channels, one 1080i ATSC and one 480i ntsc. If your local Sears has this setup you could make a comparison to see if SD is tolerable.

Since this seems to be the right thread, what's the difference between the 733 and the 734? All the specs I can find seem to make them seem the same.

Also, I'm looking at the 733 from my Costco. A few questions: First, I assume that $2999 is a pretty reasonable price. Second, for those that have this, will it work pretty well in this setup/usage? Viewing distance of ~12 feet. This is in a family room with large windows opposite the TV wall so glare is a concern. Lots of xbox gaming. Is there a different tv that would work better or as well for a lower cost? My only limitation is that I'd like to stay above 60 inches and below $3000.

@vic64, I explained the technologies accurately and correctly on multiple separate occasions. My posts stand and are correct. If anyone has a specific problem with a detail in one of them, they should PM me and I'll correct it. If anyone has a misapprehension problem with one of my posts, they can also PM me, but I'm not correctly posts that are not in error simply because Vic feels like backpedaling at this point.

The 733 will work beautifully in your situation.

The 733 is not the same as the 734. It is the same as the 732. Another member noted that "Just to be crystal freaking clear, though, it's not 240 Hz. Aquamotion 240 is not 240Hz, which is why Sharp never calls it 240Hz."

--If you buy a 732 online you would get a much better price than what you posted from Costco. You could also spend about the same on the 734 and get the true 240MHZ. To each his own though.

This Sharp will rule this size HT LED panel for now and the near future since previous to it it was unheard of for a 70" to sell for anything near this LED.

12' should be close to perfect and if it's all HD viewing not a problem - I'm awaiting the high end model at 8.5' and know it won't be a problem since I've viewed a 57" Sharp 5 years and need to get right up to the screen to see any pixel structure and THX viewing HD Distance standards agree - SD viewing is not bad on my panel but comparatively against HD will always be a Turd of course. I believe this panel is semi matte and brightness should be a best performer in a bright room and handle things far better than any plasma.

Isn't the 734 also Aquamotion 240? At least that what the sharp website says, though it goes out of its way to be uninformative. And the respective manuals for both the 733 and 734 both say the same thing:
Quote:

Motion Enhancement
Use Motion Enhancement to view fast-action video more clearly.
AquoMotion240: Turns the LED scanning backlight on or off to display motion picture more smoothly and clearly.
120Hz High/120Hz Low: For obtaining a clearer image.
Off: Normal image.

Based on that, I presumed they were both aquamotion240 and not true 240hz displays.

You are right, Sharp has a golden goose for the next 9 months or so. I bet next year LG, Vizio, and Samsung release a bigger LED to compete with Sharp though. That is a long ways away. I wonder if this will force plasma to go bigger too ??

The 733 boxes from Costco they show Facebook as an app for the TV, however, I have not seen the Facebook App. Only Vudu, Netflix, ..., etc.

Anyone else notice this?

My Costco has the 733 for a little less than your quoted price. Might want to check your local Costco again.

For those interested. Sharp is going to have a press conference next Thursday. Details on the Elite PRO-60X5FD and PRO-70X5FD are expected. Early reports look very good. Most info so far can be found at HDJ.

Costco may have lowered their price a bit. Haven't been there lately.
Don't forget to add a couple hundred for tax.

I couldn't happier with my purchase of the 734 from Cleveland Plasma.
It was actually in town the next day, but with doorstop delivery it took another day. The delivery guy helped bring it in the house too.

Has there been any information regarding Sharp updating their apps? Hulu Plus might be nice.

To answer my own question, the two differences I can find based on a post on page 55 are IP control and Quad Pixel Plus. I dunno if either of those are really worth it, but based on what everyone is saying, and looking around online, it does look like the costco price isn't all that hot, especially once I factor in having to rent a van/uhaul to carry it home. Thanks to all for the help.

Quality of the site not withstanding; That's where the info is at the moment. The folks posting are quite credible.

I have retail pricing info on both the PRO-60X5FD and 70X5FD, but i suppose I should refrain from posting it until something official comes along.

I don't see what's wrong with posting MSRP. Sale prices, deals, fell off a truck and got it for this price, etc is questionable. But MSRP doesn't seem like an issue. That's just me though.

MSRP IS perfectly within the forum rules and permitted always.

Come on FAT & UGLY and post the Pricing if its credible.

Here's a posting by Robert of Value Electronics (Flat Panel Shootout Sponsor) of the New X5 and they are raving about the black levels on this baby which carries an Elite Badge apparently. (They reviewed a 60" for evalulation at Sharp US Hq's)

Here's Roberts quote as to black levels so far at HDJ --- (Formal Review is due 8/4)

"This new Elite panel produces a lower MLL than the 9g Kuros. Several LCD/LEDs do, but this one is very very black."

Though we should not really get into a plasma vs LCD war - the Kuro will always have it's place no matter what.

The Photo's removed per request of Robert but in their place --- ELITE WINS!!! However, I cannot remove them from the rest of this forum or the internet as they have spread to forums in Europe already. Like anyone can get rid of anything once it's on Facebook in the Public Domain and with no copyrights. We'll get the official poop on 8/4.

After five years waiting this 70" is going to be in my HT and replace my 57" antique as soon as I can get one!

The panel on the right is a KURO BTW - Holy Crap.

Makes the KURO look like crap.

Here's another quote from Robert from Value Electronics at HDJunkies RE: the new SHARP ELITE: (If your familiar with the Flat panel Shootouts you'll know Robert and the credibility of the Pro calibrators used)

"My heart began beating very fast when I saw the very classy gold embossed Elite logo again on a flat panel. And as you said the blooming was very minimal in two ways. First, it was a very small area around the bright areas and even better it was very faint, you really had to be close to the screen and even then it was hard to detect any blooming.

The video processing is outstanding and the images have no anomalies, no mosquito noise, no dot crawl, motion resolution was excellent and the black level was just amazing.

I never thought I would like a LCD, but Sony's HX929 and this new Elite are very excellent TVs.

-Robert"
