I read through the IP control section in the manual, but I am not really sure what to do with the codes since I will not be controlling the TV via PC software.

HHgregg has this set on display in Wilmington, Del. Looks fantastic playing Avatar in Blu-Ray-HDMI and also showed the Masters via component. Inky blacks all around. Very impressive at a great price too. The low weight of the unit (versus size) means you don't need a special base cabinet to support it either.

Anyone seen this set in person in the Central Florida area?

Chad and rockaway -

quick question - do either of you notice the green blob/band on your sets that you can see in my pics (page 6)? If there is a transition scene or if it is a dark scene, it's show up. The clouding is not an issue, but the blob is.

Same here Rockaway 1836 every viewing angle on my set viewing sitting up or down is great for me cant wait for the 3-d version

Have not seen it. Do you want me to check again tonight with lights off and no source?

If you could, I would appreciate it. It is distracting to me, and I don't have "golden eyes" Don't want to change out the set unless I have to, but I think Chad would have mentioned it in his review it if was present on the one he tested.

Thx,

For those that have seen the Samsung D8000 how does this set compare to it? I have a 65" on pre order but the 70" Sharp 3d model sounds interesting as well. I am blown away by Samsungs life like image and was curious if the Sharp puts off the same effect.

Have you looked at iRule?

I went through the basic settings section of the AVS 709 disk which can be found here, along with the help of a filter from DVE HD Basics.

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=948496

This was done in a room with several windows darkened using venetian blinds. Not particularly dark, but dark enough so reflections on the screen were pretty muted to not visible.

This is what I ended up with:

Movie Mode
OPC Off
Backlight 0
Contrast +30
Brightness +1
Color -4
Tint +3
Sharpness 0
Color Gamut Standard
Color Temp Low
Motion Enhancement Off
Quad Pixel Plus Off
Active Contrast Off
Gamma +1
Film Mode Off
DNR Off
Mono Off

I don't have recommendations in the CMS Subsystem yet, I am still experimenting with that.

Well so far after a couple of days tweaking the settings, pretty pleased with this TV overall but def can't wait to get it dialed in right. Hopefully it contains the potential to get a lot better with the proper settings. I use the motion enhance on Blu ray but off for direct tv. These settings aren't great but best I've done so far. I hate to say it but my Vizio 55 120hz had a better picture. I def hope this one can surpass that one, being twice as much...

AV mode- User
OPC- Off
Backlight- +4
contrast- +16
brightness- -6
color- +7
tint- +2
sharpness- +2

Color Temp - mid-low
Motion Enhance- off
Quad pixel plus- on
Gamma Adj- +1
film mode- advanced(high)
Digital noise reduction- off
Monochrome- off

My set stands about 5' 11" from the floor to the top of the bezel while sitting on an old dresser. I sit roughly 10 feet from it at about a 30 to 40 degree angle left of center. I'm also about 5' 11" tall so I'm looking at the TV dead on while standing, and sitting I come in at pretty much dead center screen. I see no loss in PQ sitting or standing. As I walk around the room at more exterme angles, both closer and further away I don't see any loss either.

I don't want to even try and talk for Chad. But what I think he's been trying to tell us is that when he looks at a set it's on a different level than most of us mere mortals. He does this for a living and sees much more of a variety of TVs in real life viewing conditions.

If anyone is reading Chad's words as being negative; Best advice I can give. Go see the set for yourself if you can. I have owned both front projection SD (Sony 50in) and rear projection HD (Pansonic 53in ) Veiwing angles on the 70in Sharp are worlds apart from that old tech. Even today's DLPs don't compare.

After measuring with the Sharp specs the top of the bezel would be aboy 6'2 for me. So sitting on my couch it is a pretty good angle up from about 13 feet back. That 13 feet is why I want every possible inch I can get from a FP because a Projector is not possible with my room. The room is only about 16 feet wide and the couch is dead center.

Just torn between the Panny 65ST30 and the Sharp.

I don't see any coloration on a dark screen with my set. Just black with some gray clouding.

No wonder my wife thinks I'm nuts ! I can't believe that I just took out the tape measure at 11:30 at night !!

I too have couch in the room, (garage) also sitting directly across from the TV. However, the back cushions of my couch would messure about 18ft away. The couch also sits a little lower than my recliner. So yes I even tried to measure what the height my eyes are sitting there. lol Anyway it comes in at about 40 inches. I then took the tape over to the TV, where 40 inches comes in at 4 inches up from the bottom of the screen. ( not the bottom of the body of the TV ) There is no feeling of having to look up at all. And no sence of loss of PQ of any kind.

In the end the TV you choose should be the one you like the best. Be it palsma or LED-LCD. You should go and see them both for yourself if posible. It seems that the Sharp is starting to show up in more places now. Just take your time, wait a little while longer to see if you can see one. I can't imagine a bigger hastle than to order a set this size, not like it and have to return it.

I have finally mounted mine on a wall today (thank you Cleveland Plasma for a quick shipping!). It looks spectacular.
I have a very bright room and the reflectivity of my prior TVs were a constant issue. I am happy to say this is by far the best set I've seen in my bright room. It has very little reflectivity during the day... and a great picture quality in both bright and dim conditions... and for a very reasonable price.
I couldn't be happier I pulled the trigger

Set's getting exchanged then - the real pain is getting this beast back in the box, then setting up the new one.

Sorry to hear. I could imagine, I exchanged my 60" 831 twice lol. And i'm on the 3rd floor in my apartment building . On a last minute decision I gave up on the 60LE831. My BB got a last minute shipment of the 60" Sony EX700. Could not pass on the sale price of $1999 and 10% managers special. Actually got $95 back lol. No luck for me with Sharps 2011 edge lit models. I am still in the market for the 70" 732 for my new house's living room. But all i know is yippe no clouding on my new Sony!!! I still love Sharps 2011 models bezel design. Among the best ive seen.

LOL - Everytime I ge my tape measure out the wifes eyes roll.

The local sears only has one of these so I doubt that I can get them to take it out their display are looks packed.

I will have a tilting mount so right know horizontal viewing will be the key.

Anyway thanks for the info you are providing. It is very helpful to get the insight as I know Chad's review and his eyes are very critical.

6'2" to the top bezel and a seated eye level of 40" or so puts your eye level at 6" above the bottom bezel. The center of the screen would be 16" up from that. According to my extremely rusty high school trig that's about a 6 degree angle from a 40" eye level to the screen center.

This looks like an excellent TV for the money. I am also in a market for largest-2dtv-for-money and I am coming fro a Panny plasma 50'' 600u TV.

Can anyone comment on PQ on off-center viewing angle?
I went to see the 732 this weekend. The contrast drops off fairly immediately and noticeably as you move off center. It does >not< get terrible and certainly never becomes unwatchable. But it changes sufficiently quickly enough you will see it as you move your head slightly. Whether this bothers you or not is another matter. For me, I think it was a dealbreaker.

How is that physically possible? You are moving your head a much smaller distance than the width of the screen, so some portion of the screen must be still be visible at 90 degrees?
