Official Panasonic DMP-BD75 Owner's thread (all questions and comments go here) - Page 6

Nope, the manual only cites a 2Tb volume size limit and FAT32.
...and exFAT doesn't work at all.
OK, I gave up and am using FAT32, which seems fine. Means recoding a bunch of rips, but that's what Handbrake is for, I suppose.

Next question: is there any way to make the player sort the files in alphabetical order, rather than MFT order (i.e. the order in which they were copied to disk)?
Wuh ... was thinking about getting this model but I would say (judging from the very helpfull comments) this would win a prize for the worst Panasonic model ever - absolutely no thought went in to the design of this
Way too many flaws - My Friend has the BDT220 and not one of the flaws mentioned here
and it has wireless built in , netflix, skype etc
Actually it has 2 minor flaws - you need a specific panasonic camera for Skype as it will not accept any other type and skype will only work if the camera is connected
but i can live with that

So I'm off to get the Panasonic DMP-BDT220

I just bought one of these, I followed these instructions to make wmp a media server. http://www.agoraquest.com/viewtopic.php?topic=35037&forum=70
Now my player can see my laptop however I get a ''there are no files in this folder'' message when I try to access my laptop.
Anybody know what has gone wrong?
Well this is Piss Poor, I got it working in the end.
You press a button on the remote and the unit responds more than 30 seconds later, it wont recognise most video file , it wont recognise Flac files, I mean who uses pathetic MP3 or other lossy formats nowadays? If you are five and want to watch Peppa Pig this might be your bag, if you are an adult and want to stream MEDIA from your pc/laptop get a proper media streaming machine. One word to describe this unit? Pathetic.
So , I get it to play a film , at the end when the credits started to roll I pressed ''stop'' on the remote. Nothing. I press other buttons on the remote, nothing. I press stop on the players front panel, nothing, I press the power off button on the players front panel , nothing.
How do you stop it? Do I have to pull the power plug out from the wall socket?
This is going back to the shop , complete and utter rubbish.

I have been using this player to stream netflix and some linking to my PC to stream playon.

However mostly I use it to play some workout DVDs that I copied. They have been playing fine for months. Last night I got the Muppets on bluray and watched some of it. I turned off the player last night and this morning put in my workout dvd and the video plays just fine but no audio. Tried another copied disk and no audio (these disks were playing fine just the other day).

I put back in the muppets and I get video and audio... anyone have any suggestions?

FYI:
Panisonic wants me to try to reset to factory

Turn unit ON
push and hold "OK", "B"(blue), "Y" (yellow)
the display will read "00RET"
repeatedly hit right arrow
until you see "08FIN"
hold "OK" for 3-5 seconds
The unit will then turn off and turn back on

you will then need to go through the unit setup again

No update with MP4 playback, pretty much makes this player defunct for me now.

Panasonic DMP-BD75 no sound

Using the HDMI cable, I have sound when playing a Blu Ray disk but no sound when playing a standard DVD disk. I do get sound from the RCA audio outputs though using either type of disk. I would prefer to use the HDMI cable if I can since my TV doesn't have a RCA Video Input. What am I doing wrong???
I've had mine a little over a week...bought for a second smaller Home Theater system with my Panasonic plasma TV...mine workers great with music, Blu Ray and DVDs...

I did a short comparison against my OPPO BDP 83...for Blu Ray, DVD or CDs there isn't enough of a difference for me to spend nearly $300 more for a nice used OPPO (by the way, the the Panny blows away the OPPO 971 but It should given technology improvements)...

No, the build quality or all the extras aren't even close but for a basic player...which is why I bought it...it does fine thus far...

I bought this player about five months ago and only ever used it to play DVD's and Blu-Ray discs. Last night, I tried out VUDU app on this player for the first time, and it streamed a Harry Potter video with 5.1 surround sound. Going to try out Netflix app tonight to see if it will stream in surround. So far, it's a good budget player.

I could not get VUDU to stream in surround sound or HD on my HTPC, even though it has the Intel HD2500 graphics, and is linked to a Pioneer VSX-520K receiver and Pansonic smart TV, all of which are HDCP compliant. Kept getting the not-HDCP-compliant message from VUDU. But, using my BD75 I can watch VUDU in surround and HD with no issues.

It's a good little bargain player and have had no issues. Don't plan on using it for DLNA, so that's not really a concern for me.

^ Cool! it seems this 2011 model is more reliable than the new 77/87 which are getting horrible reviews. I also like the fact that it has a detachable power cord like the more expensive models (captive cords drive me nuts). So I hope to be able to locate an old stock or demo unit.

One question that has not been discussed yet in this thread - how is the YouTube support?

Not sure, but I can try it out when I get home from work and report back. I might not be able to post back until tomorrow morning, but I will let you know what I find out.
Thanks. Looks like I will be trying it out myself also when I get home tonight smile.gif

Just bought a demo unit at my local Future Shop on clearance for $70. Could not see YouTube in the Network menu, just Netflix, but there was no network connection in the store. It probably needs a firmware update too. For this price my mum can live without YouTube on it, so I bought it for her.

How's the Netflix UI on this? Does it feature the 2011 version seen here https://picasaweb.google.com/112011548845311819722/Panasonic2011NetflixHTML5?authkey=Gv1sRgCKPXjcjg1LOdZg&feat=embedwebsite, or the newer PS3 scroll across in one line UI?

No YouTube here frown.gif
Nope, no YouTube. Just Vudu, Netflix and Cinema Now.

And the Netflix interface is just as Westly-C describes above. I noticed that the Netflix interface navigation is very, very slow. Not so with the Vudu interface.

I will be using it for streaming Vudu new releases in surround sound and my blu-ray and dvd movies.

My DMP-BD75 is refusing to play The Dark Knight Rises blu-ray which I've just bought, returned in case the disc was faulty, and bought again. Sometimes it tells me the disc is incompatible, sometimes after ejecting/reinserting it says "Play" but does nothing. It has also had problems in the past playing a number of BBC nature documentary blu-ray discs, with the "incompatible disc" message, but I eventually managed to get them to play by ejecting and turning off/on the player. No such luck with The Dark Knight. I have upgraded to firmware 1.56. Any tips? Or is this one for Panasonic support?
BD-75 is not wi-fi capable. It will stream from a cabled ethernet. You might look into a wi-fi repeater to see if it has additional ports but it is likely to be too slow.

HELP! I just updated to firmware 1.36. It was working for a while with Netflix. Then all of a sudden it locked up and turned off.
When I tried to turn it back on, the HDMI output is not working, only the composite . The Viera-link control still works because when I turn on the Blu-Ray player, my Panny tv comes on, but thats it.

Any ideas?

Customer support is a joke. They said I need to send it in for repair after downloading their updated software scewed it up, and I'm responsible for the bill.
What a joke. I should have just left the software alone.

Yikes I think it would be cheaper to buy a new one. Ask them to let you know when they've fixed the software bug. Hopefully it is working enough to perform a firmware update! Was this 1.36 just released? I will have to tell my mum not to install it! I updated hers about 6 weeks ago but can't remember the version no.
Yes, it was v1.36. Was it released recently?

They refuse to listen to me. I'll never buy another Panasonic. I am going to Target and getting a Sony Blu-Ray. Probably an S390, at least it supports 1080P/5.1 with Netflix.

That's what I'm asking you... was this an update that suddenly appeared on the network or did "you" suddenly appear on the network?
All I know is when I plugged in the Ethernet cable it told me an update was available and if I would like to update now, hit "ok".
I never had this unit hooked up to the network before in the 3 plus years I had it. I think I was at v1.19 before the update
post #176 of 189
I've had panasonics that were very finicky about HDMI cables. You should try a few different ones before you give up and also try a few different inputs. You can also do a firmware update via disc if you want to give that another shot. But it may not take it. Also check the HDMI settings and try different resolutions. And make sure you haven't inadvertently selected the wrong input on your TV. Viera link will change inputs on you automatically, then your remote may end up switching to the wrong one. Lastly, if more than one connection is made at a time, others may get shut off due to copy protection. So unplug composite and try HDMI again. If it's any consolation, I've never heard of any panasonic firmware update breaking HDMI. So chances are the cause isn't really the firmware.

If you do end up getting a sony, I'd recommend the 590 over the 390. You can usually get it for about the same price, and the build quality and features are a bit better. A have a couple of 390's and they're fine, but they feel kind of cheap compared to the 590.

Good luck.

I tried all the possibilities, but HDMI still not working.

I looked at the Sony BDP-590, but I have no need for 3D. Thats why I looked at the BDP-390.

If Sony tech support is worse, than what do you suggest? Samsung? Toshiba?

since you are not looking to get a player with 3d. I would recommend the oppo 83.
the problem with the big companies like samsung is that they are too big to care about dealing with the little stuff.
the oppo brand is really the only player that I have seen that has gotten great support over the years. I own the 93 and its a fine player. the link below has some decent prices for a used oppo 83. good luck.

Thanks for the link, but I don't think those are in my price range. $225 for a used Oppo is a little steep for me, plus I need a unit with WiFi
