Built in the USA Only!

Could the experts list home theater products which use 90% or more built in the USA components along with final assembly in the USA. A list of specific models for each application would be appreciated:

Speakers

Amps

Pre/Pro

Projectors/Screens

DSP/Room correction

Legacy Audio speakers.

macintosh

I assume you mean assembled in the US. Very few electrical components are manufactures in the US.
Yeah, all the chips, all the caps, most the boards are made in Asia. US Chip companies are mostly fabless.

A similar discussion just erupted in the budget section, in a thread on the CRE X1000 Worlds First 3 LED 3 LCD 1080p Projector.

A Delta ODM projector being labelled as 'USA Made', the Planar folks likely enhanced it, but the basis is still by a Taiwanese ODM.

Theta. Is "American"
ATI
Atlantic Technology Speakers
XLO electric wires

If anyone gets the chance to go to the McIntosh factory the tour is amazing. Watching people who founded the company and or have worked there from day one!

A real passion for audio.

Peavey? Still has some manufacturing in MS, not sure how much or at what component level or for which products anymore.

Oh wait... This is the ultra high end forum!?

Uhm those glass factories are build near the panel plants. Just scoure the Corning releases site: Company will co-locate facility with Sharp in Japan, expands capaictity in Taiwan, and so on.

Yes, that's correct. I take a flight from Detroit to Beijing with regularity. I often sit next to people from Corning Display Technology traveling to Asia. Modern manufacturing demands JIT (just in time) delivery and inventory control, not to mention the shipping cost of glass.

Theta and Mcintosh. The upgrade for the Casablanca has created at least one new job in California and I hope more.

Except for the small fact that's it's part of a Japanese corporation and is often using shared platform components from its corporate cousins.

Kind of like how Honda is an "American" company building cars, motorcycles, snowblowers, jet skis, jet engines, and jet aircraft in the US.

TacT Audio. They even assemble some of the circuit boards by hand here in the US. Unfortunately the result is quite a bit of assembly errors
post #17 of 98
i could be wrong but i believe that mark levinson is still assembled in the US.

isn't Krell also still assembled in the US?
I repeat Christie, Evans & Sutherland, VDC.

Granted, not all products will be 100% US built........... amazing how much electronic parts are outsourced to Asia.............

I remember as a young man, US companies ruled the roost with electronics...........I've decided it's time for me to take a stand with the only weapon at my disposal........my purchasing power.

Keep the products coming............I'm watching intently.

If I understand your definition correctly, "products which use 90% or more built in the USA components", I don't think anything listed above would qualify as "Made in America" as most of the parts that populate the circuit boards are not made in the US.

Anyways, you could add Pass Laboratories, Stewart Filmscreen, and Magnepan Speakers.

As others have said, nothing is 100% (or probably even 90%) American made since so many electronic parts/boards are OEM in Asia. With that understood, I believe the following outstanding audio products are mostly American made (with a little help from Canadian speaker cabinet makers):

Digital Phase Loudspeakers

Lexicon MC processors (not the MV or their receivers) though not sure about the amps, but I think are made by Crown, another American company

Benchmark DAC and other audio products

Sanders Sound Systems speakers and amplifiers

Coda Technologies (amps and preamps)

Bel Canto Designs

SVS subwoofers

Theta Digital and their new owner ATI (Amplifier Technologies Inc.)

Boulder Audio

PS Audio used to make most of their stuff in the US, but I think now they mostly OEM it to Asia, which has resulted in lower prices though not necessarily better products.

Rogue Audio.

I thought Brsyton made the amps for lexicon?
canadian company

Cary Audio

Not surprised that no one has listed a display company. Every display (TV/projector) I've ever owned - going back to the mid-70s - has come from Japan/Taiwan

Bryston OEM'ed amplifiers for a short time for Lexicon. I believe they are OEM'ed by Crown since the acquisition of both Crown and Lexicon by Harmon International.

Crown and Lexicon are both located in Elkhart, Indiana.

Crown used to build fantastic reel-to-reel tape recorders. Bought a 4-track, 1/4", 15ips, with 10.5" NAB reels machine in the 1970's. You could pick-up product direct from the factory back then. I don't think Crown's complete line of amplifiers are built in the US now; I think some are sourced from Asia.

B curry Thanks for the update. I was not sure I have seen a lex made by Bryston, but not the newer ones.

Makes since since HK has such a range to pick from.
