Newest AMD FX chips also seems to be quite good (~ i7 Sandy-Bridge at the same clock speed).
I m running a Core2Quad Q9550, 4GB DDR3 and ATI 5450 at the moment with madVR and LAV Video Decoder (software decoding since LAV only supports CUVID=NVIDIA hardware decoding).
What I want is running SVP for my 1080p23,976 content on my JVC 1080p projector. I tried it but my CPU maxes out @90-95%.
WITHOUT SVP I m running @50% atm. You might ask why this is so high (and not 25-30% like it should be with my setup). This is because I use 2 high CPU eating programs while watching a movie:
1. XBMC run idle in background
2. I m using specific software for my D-Box seating that I need.
Also madVR is CPU intense.
What I could do is swapping my HD5450 for a NVIDIA 550ti (affordable card while good performance) and switch to CUVID in LAV Video Decoder. This will save me 25% CPU I think. But I m afraid I would still need more CPU power. What you think? Will switching to a new CPU be better?
