Not a law and order type of show. The new case spans the season instead of an episode. While you could probably go into this season without having seen the previous ones the references and already built in relationships would make some of it slow going for you.
I don't know. I think you can follow the current case fine. You might miss out of several references, but I doubt it would prevent you from following the story. If you have Netflix or Amazon Prime you can catch up first, or try Wikipedia, it might give a synopsis.
Basically, Lindon and Holder met in the first episode of the series and became partners. Lindon tends to get too invested in the victims. She ruined her marriage, met someone new, got engaged, then ruined that. She gets so wrapped up in a case that she ruins all of her personal relationships.
Holder used to work vice. He became an addict. He has a lot of street smarts. Sarah has intuition.
They solved the case, but she ruined her reputation. Holder learned to care by working with Lindon. When they met, he was basically coasting. I think that's enough to get you going on this season.
