From the manual, pp 18 and 39, it looks as if you should use the vcr/dvr out analog (RCA) jacks to record. No digital inputs can be recorded.

Would that (TV/CD) be selectable for the phono if I am already using that OPTICAL IN2 for my CD player and (TV/CD) thinks it is the CD player?
not sure.
I believe that if the optical is defined as the in in setup->Input Output Assign->Digital Audio and there is no optical source present then it will default to analog
If not then setup->sourcsetup->Audio selector can switch it over to the analog.

Thanks TedBPhx--that makes sense. I was just looking for a neat and clean way. Renaming the inputs is somewhat helpful, but it doesn't rename them on the remote (obviously), so I try to make things as easy to remember as possible.

Just curious. What would happen if I connected my old speakers rated at 3 Olmsted impedance to the HT-RC360?

Manual says speakers less than 6 Olmsted are not supported.

Have you seen Ghostbusters? That would be like crossing the streams.

Can someone help me with setting up the wireless on my RC360? I picked up a wireless usb adapter http://www.amazon.com/Premiertek-Pow.../dp/B0065OBMP2

I'm plugging it into the front of the unit in the USB port and I click USB on the receiver. I click on USB and it reads "No storage" on the receiver and just USB on the tv. There are no options to select.

I then tried going to the Menu screen and selected Hardware Setup, then Network. It shows MAC Address and DHCP and Proxy URL. I don't see any option to see wireless networks in my area (like you would on a PC). Is the USB adapter I'm using incompatible? Is the Onkyo adapter the only one that will work?

Last week I just barely got in on an $80 instant rebate at newegg. Brought the price down to $280 total. (no tax, free shipping)

Does this unit have 5.1 analog for a SACD player?

no

See my previous quotes in this thread for info on the Multi-analog inputs. In short, yes the 370 does, the 360 does not, and if you have good DACs in your SACD player you can set up the AVR to do Multichannel passthrough.

Thanks, I did see your earlier post also. Check your PMs.

Not sure if this can be discussed, but what's the best price you guys have seen on the 370? I'm just about ready to pull the trigger, but I could have sworn that I've seen it much cheaper on Amazon that what it is currently listed at. Just wondering if I should hold out...

It has been a while since I have setup an Onkyo so this might be normal. I notice that when Dolby Volume is enabled, the front panel does not even show that MultEQ XT is still functioning. It makes sense that it would disable Dynamic EQ and Volume, but not the EQ.

Any advise to improving picture quality on my Samsung HDTV 1080p attached to RC 360 with an HDMI. I find that the picture quality is not as clear and often pixles are visible. This was not the case when I had TV hooked up to the CBL box.

Is this with or without your avr processing the signal?

I got it at the lower price on Amazon with free shipping a while back, it's $90 more now.

Love my rc360, but I'm getting some white noise (slight wind-like sound), most apparent during quiet scenes as background noise. Input when getting this sound is a Comcast HD DVR - HDMI.

I used the Audyssey auto calibrator, corrected the distances manually, and have fiddled with listening modes, DB levels, and crossovers to no avail.

Current 3.1 set up:
HT-RC360
2 Pioneer SP-BS41-LR bookshelf speakers - 80kh crossover, -8 db
Polk Audio Monitor CS1 center - 80kh crossover, -10 db
Velodyne imact mini powered sub - 80lfe on both sub and receiver, -0db

I read through this thread and fine tuned the crossover to 80 for both my sides and center, messed with the db level (lowering them and turning the master volume higher seems to reduce it the most). It sounds a bit better and maybe I'm too sensitive, but the noise is killing me!

Any advice on the noise, other settings? Thanks!

How about trying getting your front/center speakers near 0db?

This using the Audyssey setup? What does the 360 have for Audyssey?

Thanks for the reply! I actually just re-audyssey'd it. It set the following values: Center -3, left +1, right 0, sub +3. It got the distances off by a foot, so I changed those to match. I also changed the crossover from 40 to 80 for both fronts and center. Not too sure about the lfe, left it at 100.

I messed with treble settings, adjusted the cables some, I'm not sure what could be causing it.

This all aside, the system sounds amazing. The sound is still there.. but I'm trying to tune it out.

Another observation - the sound it makes is as if the speakers were turned up really loud and had no input. It's that same sort of shhhhh noise. When I pause the input the sound stops however, so it's definitely not that. hahaha

What's "messing" with treble mean? How do you adjust a cable? Does it sound better after your correction for distance? Why not match at 80 for the sub?

Have you tried swapping connectors to make sure that's not at fault?

Has anyone had any issues with this unit all the sudden not working for the HDMI inputs? Out of the blue, my HDMI's won't work.

Blu-Ray and Cable/Sat are setup, and they show analog on the front and just a blue screen on the TV.

I've replaced the cables, plugged them directly into the TV and they work. I can't figure out how to change the signal to HDMI.

I've tried plugging the HDMI cable from the cable box to the front (aux) port of the receiver and it works fine. Could the ports be bad?

Love the 360, but I'm having a WAF issue at the moment. I've recently renovated my family room and setup all my in wall wiring for 5.1 arrangment, but in order to install a center speaaker the wife will lose real estate below the TV and not be able to use her mantle to display whatever it is that you put on a mantle.

I've read this is an issue with others before especially with the "hanging over the fireplace" orientation. I've also read that if you set your reciever to "No Center" it will automatically push the center speaker audio to the FL and FR speakers.

I've also read about HRTF technology (Head Related Transfer Function) which really does a great job of simulating a 5.1 system within a 4.1 arrangement. I can't seem to find this on the 360's specs though. Does anyone know if the 360 has this ability and/or whether or not this would be a decent receiver to purchase to get decent 4.1 sound?

BTW, I also would like zone 2, network capability and Audessy all of which the 360 has.

Thanks,

smithmal

Edit - Called Onkyo tech support and was told the best receiver for this arrangment is the TX receivers, specifically either the 509 or 609. They mentioned something about changing the listening mode to "All Channel Stereo" however the 609 manual indicates this listening mode is for 3.1, 5.1 and 7.1 speaker arrangements so I'm confused

Dangit, that's what I thought...I wonder what the chances it will go back down before the end of the year.

Thanks for the reply!

Thanks for your reply! Sorry for the lack of clarity.

Messing ~ I listened at 0, brought it up and down by 5 to see if it made any difference. It didn't, it just got quiet to the point that I couldn't hear sound well anymore.

I adjusted the cables to ensure they aren't overlapping (someone earlier said it could lead to distortion). One was, but it didn't make any difference.

I didn't notice any difference after changing the distance at all. Regarding the sub, I will match it to 80. Truthfully I had to research lfe and lpf, particularly this receiver's setting, and still don't have too firm a grasp on it. I haven't swapped speaker cables yet, but it's from each speaker... so next on my list is to swap the input HDMI going from my cable box to see if that changes anything.

Hi guys,
I got an RC360 from the newegg deal, and set it up a few days ago. Pretty nice upgrade from my 11 year old Yamaha

Here's my setup:
Rogers SD8300 PVR --> component cable --> RC360 --> HDMI --> Toshiba 52HM84

I thought the RC360 was supposed to upconvert the component to HDMI, but I see no signal on the HDMI in. If I use component between the RC360 and the TV everything's fine; and if I hook up a laptop to HDMI1, the output's there on the TV. This second path is also the only way I can get the on-screen display to show up -- nothing appears when I don't have an HDMI input signal, even if the receiver and TV are connected via HDMI.

Am I missing something, or is there something wrong with my receiver? I'm really hoping it's the former, since I bought this thing cross-border and Onkyo's not so generous about warranties when you do that
post #418 of 700
guy_downstairs. I believe you need to correctly assign your component input using the input selector technology of the 360.

See page 77 of your manual or look below:

Hi smithmal,
I was playing around with those settings, but still wasn't able to get the receiver to upconvert. By default CBL/SAT was assigned to HDMI3 and IN2; since my component video is hooked up to IN2, I tried disabling the HDMI3 input. No luck

I have a question on audio quality for zone2.

At least as far as wiring it goes.

I have a receiver upstairs that I'm going to use as the zone2, however the only cabling I have near here that goes between the two is Coaxial.

I have a central wiring closet, and can directly attach the two rooms together with a F-F adapter.

If I use (Onkyo)2RCA - Coaxial - 2RCA(upstairs) how much sound quality will I lose? Is the output raw for my stereo to decipher, or will it all just come out Mono?

Is there a better solution? I was hoping the Pre-amp was part of zone2, but it's not. That would have helped.
