What resolution is your cable box set to?

replacing 3 yr old sony bought at costco, can get the model # later when i go home

no amp, just a panny soundbar is attached and the settings on the tv for hdmi messed that up so that the audio didnt work for two days, but that is fixed now based on a setting my guy changed

dtv box is set to all resolutions and has native on, regardless of the res i put it on this issue exists, i have done it both on and off native so i can manually change the res...we are going to hook up old sony soon to make sure it is the tv and not dtv box

apologize i should have made separate thread for this, if a mod wants to do that it is okeedokee with me

Is the New set larger than the one it is replacing?
Can you set the DTV box to passthrough?
On the TV, set the TV to Auto...or normal. i cannot remember the options on the menu at the moment.
Also, Turn LOCAL dimming off, and all of your ECO settings.
Try a couple of these and share your results

new 46
old 40

passthrough?

i dont recall seeing dimming options or ECO, I would have to have more specific info, right now I have most filters turned off, setting to vivid - and this auto or normal setting, not sure where that would be

the color of the guide, blue, different shade than on all other tvs i have and have had...the writing within the guide will have little specs of white as if it is getting noise, clearly the signal from the tv to the dtv box or vice versa is not right, something somewhere is doing something...if i could lift my other tv i would have already confirmed that it isnt the dtv box, but i know it isnt, it was fine before we put in the new tv...i dont think it has anything to do with pic settings as in filters, but I dont know enough about all those settings to know for sure, i have had dtv hd dvrs hooked up to about 10 different tvs over past several years and on all of them the guide looks the same...

Passthrough will allow the tv to process the pic, not the dvr. The DVR will just send the signal straight to the tv in the native resolution it is being broadcast at.
6" shouldn't be a huge differance.
Who makes your DVR?

I dont know, it is Direct TV...it is the newest version, hr24 500 i think

i dont know how i would do a passthrough, on dtv box you can either have the resolution default to the signal it is receiving, native on, or you can have that off, i have tried both ways

regardless of the res, the guide itself on BOTH hd and sd is faulty...originally i said on sd only but i was wrong

Personally, I love how the set looks when it is turned off, The monolithic design is nice and really clean looking.

When tuned (or semi-tuned as far as my half-ass settings go) there isn't really any noticeable SOE.

On my set there is noticeable Flashlighting, and I currently have an email into Sony regarding this issue.

I cannot comment on 3D, or any of the Internet apps.
As far as the display goes, I would not hesitate to purchase again....unless the 65" 929 was the same price of course.

Thanks

have you seen HX909 or HX929?
because if PQ is very good in NX720 and HX820, why everyony only talks about HX929 as other models are low end models

It's sad when a $4000 tv is considered low end.

The ARC was just a hunch, but it seems to have panned out. Now that it is working, post your new impressions.

input 3 is where it was, looks much better now input 4...weird...i still dont know what arc is, you told me what the acronym means but what i dont understand is does one of the 4 hdmi inputs have that and the others dont, is that why you mentioned it?

I Was Wrong!!! whoever said it was contrast? yep, i tweaked that input and if i make the picture look the way I want it to it degrades the menu and brightens the sd channel so you can see how bad it is, not at all happy about this

Thanks,
The stand is the Whalen Portland 3-in-1. Costco (Instore) Exclusive I think. Best bang for buck @ 200. I also have a Sony BDP-S470 3D Blu-ray player sitting in the box. No glasses, no need.
It may be a little high, but I also have a very curious 2 yr old at home...... But I do like the floating look of it. Makes a nice clean installation, and the stand also swivels.
No glasses?

I just wanna try Crysis 2 in 3D.

I have heard many anti 3D people say that it is actually amazing in 3D.
After just taking delivery of my new 60NX720 and playing with it for 2 days I can report that the TV is beautiful. It looks awesome with the 1 piece glass, fit and finish is as good or better than anything I have looked at. The out of the box picture quality is however the worst I have ever seen. After I calibrated it it looks much better, but it is one of those TV's that likes really good material to display a good image. I got the fifth element to look superb and blu-ray looks superb but other sources look like ****. You can tell Apple did not do their menus as they are confusing and long. I did run the iPad app and you can control this TV from it which is really cool..off axis viewing is good by the way.
If you just got one get in the hard to use menu and update the firmware, that worked well.
I give it about a C+, but it could be closer to a B after I live with it a while.

What is the lighting like where you are viewing?
I am a perfectionist....but with these settings and a good Blu-ray or HD material you get a gorgeous picture, one of the best I have seen..trick is you must have good material to get this.
Looks as good as the new Samsung D8000 which is indeed a great compliment....however if the want something that will blow your socks off look at the Panasonic VT30 plasma's.

All lighting conditions from bright to dark...best dark with these calibrations.

I'm thinking I should buy the Sharp LC70LE732 rather than throw my money into a tv that seems to be flawed.

That Sharp is nice but it has way more flaws.....No Local dimming......that's a no- no today.
This Sony will blow that one away.
Unhooked ARC from tv to soundbar, hooked up optical digital audio out i think, the one with the light where you plug in, my guy says this should do it, reprogrammed the dtv remote to talk to the soundbar only when changing volume instead of to the tv first then to the soundbar, i think...so far so good, assume no audio quality is lost doing it this way...not sure, but if it works the way it is now i will be happy...

My tv and blu ray are connected wifi to internet for netflix etc, do I still need to initiate updates on product support or do you think it is done auto?

Run the the firmware update and calibrate all inputs.

Your sharpness setting seems a bit high. Have you tried lowering it?

Doesn't low quality sources always look like crap when displayed on a large 60" screen (e.g. since the low resolution pixels get blown up and artifacts become more visible)? Have you compared it to what low quality sources look like on other 60" TVs?
